Sherrinda turned to Natasha when the woman spoke, a big smile lighting up her face. She walked over to the counter (or wherever Natasha was standing) and nodded enthusiastically.

((Oh, gods...I didn't even notice Natasha's initials were NPC until now. xd ))

((You should have...it was your idea in the first place! blaugh ))

"Ahh, okay. Well, we got a vague idea from your application, but we'd like to know some more details. Since it seems you can't write, I'll be happy to write things down for you." Tasha smiled, expectantly. "So, let's start with your name. What should we call you?"

((I know! But its been so long... blaugh ))

Sherrinda continued to smile, but instead of answering, she reached into one of the many pouches and compartments in her pants. Out of this she began drawing multiple torn up scraps of paper...they looked like they had all come from the same document. They were only bits and pieces of words written on them "by the decree of" "senten" "onfes" and such. Sherrinda kept looking through them, turning each one over to look at the back of it. Finally, she seemed to find one she was looking for: a scrap with a big smiley face drawn in black sharpie on the back of it. This one she spread out in front of Natasha, smoothing it out. This scrap read ", Sherrinda Hawthorn an"

She didn't even seem to notice that it was sideways. She just continued to smile as she pointed at the biggest continuous splotch of black ink, which she'd been told was her name.

Natasha's face quirked a little, and she looked down at the paper.

"Sherrinda Hawthorn? That's you, then? But...can't you talk, or do you just not like to?" Tasha copied the name down onto a copy of the application form on her clipboard. "Not that it matters much to the plants, but I've never met anyone who couldn't talk before."

As she finished writing, she scooped a handful of jellybeans out of a bowl on her desk and began popping them into her mouth.

"Oh, feel free to help yourself to anything on the desk. It's all there for visitors to enjoy."

Sherrinda nodded to the first two questions, but then just shook her head, though that could have meant anything. The paladins had cut out her tongue, to keep her from doing magic that might harm them. She couldn't talk if she had wanted to.

Hmm? What were those odd things? Experimentally, Sherrinda picked one up and popped it in her mouth.

...

YUMMY!

Giving Natasha a big grin in thanks, Sherrinda helped herself to a handful.

"Oooh, I see. Well that explains why your application is all cartoony!" Natasha grinned as Sherrinda's face lit up and she grabbed some more jellybeans. "They're good, aren't they?"

She held up the first part of Sherrinda's application.

"If you don't mind, I'd like to try to work through as muhc of this as possible so Song can understand it. This first part, I take it to mean elixers and magic? And it looks like your interests are the same...as well as cats. Is that right?" She pointed to the symbols drawn in the occupation field and the cat below.

Sherrinda nodded, even as she munched on the jelly beans. They were gooey and sweet, a perfect combination.

Sherrinda nodded more solemnly when Natasha asked about her application. The woman had gotten it exactly right so far.

She began putting the scraps of paper she'd strewn all over the counter away...then stopped. She might need to show Natasha what it said; people usually figured out what had happened better when they read it, though some of them looked at her funny. She had never shown the whole thing to any religious types; naturally, she avoided those religious types like the plague itself after what had happened.

Taneko opened the door to the main building. It seemed like almost everybody had decided on leaving to find more spiders. Walking to the desk, she saw Natasha talking to a girl that she had never seen before.

"I'm really sorry if I'm interrupting anything, I just came here to turn in one more spider. Nasty little bugger almost had Ari for lunch. It's bigger than the last one aswell. You might want to warn the rest of them that some of the spiders are bigger than the others." Ari, who was still sitting on Taneko's shoulder, just grabbed on tighter by the mentioning of her name. She didn't like how the spider was wriggling and trying to get out of the bottle. There would be no bragging about their awesome deeds this time, thats was for sure!

"I don't believe I've met you before. My name is Taneko, and the little pink sprite on my shoulder is Ari" she held a slight pause as she looked at the papers present on the table. They looked like they were an application, but they were so doodled over that she wasn't really sure. "Uhmm... I don't suppose you're one of the new parents, are you?"

Sherrinda smiled and waved hello to the newcomer. She seemed rather interested in the sprite on Taneko's shoulder; she'd never seen anything like it before.

She nodded joyfully at Taneko's question. She hadn't been approved yet, but she was hoping so.

Taneko's smile widened. "Did you hear that Ari, a new parent!" not noticing how the newcomer hadn't actually talked yet, she asked "So, which plant are you trying out for?" I heard that they were accepting a new batch of parents, but I wasn't really clear on the different plants that they would put up for adoption.

Sherrinda blinked, then shrugged. She wasn't really sure which plant she was getting. She liked all plants, so as long as she got one, she'd be quite happy.

Sherrinda pointed at Ari, then drew a question mark in the air. What was that tiny person?

Faidrae collected the provided net and bottle, and decided to head back out. Big, hairy, scary spiders really weren't cool, and she really didn't fancy trying to catch them, but sometimes you have to do things you really don't want to do.

Taneko looked at the girl in surprise "I'm guessing that you can't talk?" upon getting an affirmative nod she blushed slightly "Oh I'm so sorry, how rude of me! I shouldn't have asked you questions then..."

The question mark had confused Taneko. Obviously, the newcomer didn't know about the sprites yet. She glanced at Natasha to get some sort of support. "Uhm... Ari is... well... she is a... uhm..." she was really trying hard to figure out exactely what to say to her. Taneko wasn't sure, but maybe outsiders weren't supposed to know about the sprites, and who knew if the girl would be accepted or not. "You know what? It's actually really hard to explain, and I don't think I should be the one explaining it to you. I'm sure that Songjewel, or Natasha, will be able to answer all your question much better than I'm capable of."

Ari was still clutching Taneko's hair, but she seemed to be coping with her shock better now.

Sherrinda shook her head quickly, waving her hands in front of Taneko. No, no! It wasn't rude at all! She liked talking to people! Well, she couldn't talk now, not exactly, but that didn't mean she couldn't still hold conversations. And if people didn't talk to her, and she couldn't talk to herself, it would just be quiet all the time, and what kind of world would that be?

Sherrinda nodded to the explanation for why there would be no explanation, then turned to Natasha, drawing the same question mark in the air.

Taneko smiled and said a low "goodbye" and "nice talking to you" before she went to the chairs once again to update her small leather bound journal.

"Say, Ari... you know I would NEVER have let that thing hurt you, right?" she said as she closed the journal.

"I... I didn't think you would... I'm not accusing you of anything, I was just really scared... I thought that it would eat me for sure." she answered, shuddering at the memory. While Taneko had been writing in the journal, Ari had climbed of her shoulder and onto her lap, to follow along in the writing.

"Do you still want to go and look for spiders, or have you had enough?"

"I really don't want to go..."

"Well, then we aren't going! We'll just go to th..." The small sprite shook her head

"No, no... you haven't heard me out. I really don't want to go, but sometimes other things are greater than your fears."
Taneko smiled at the sprite and nodded. Ari was wise beyond her years. "Where do you want to go this time, then?"

"Let's go to the south bottom... I feel like going there... it WAS, after all, where you found me and Kitten. I think it represents us. Together. As a unity" Taneko smiled fondly at her sprite. This whole mess had really deepened the bond between them, as Taneko had hoped. "Then south bottom it is."
