Why did you join band? I love music.
Why did you pick the instrument that you did? It sounded perty. : )
What do you think you would be doing if you didn't join the band? Being bored and somewhat miserable.
What instrument, if any, would you play if you didn't pick the one you did? I play the clarinet and oboe, but I could picture myself playing the bassoon or alto sax.

Why did you join band?
At my old elementary school, we had to go to this group meeting thing in third grade where they tried to push band and orchestra. However, they preached that you would have to join orchestra in fourth grade first before deciding whether you wanted to join band in fifth grade. Orchestra didn't interest me. I ended up moving to a new elementary school in another state in fourth grade. You were allowed to join the band in fourth grade there, so I did.

I did color guard in ninth grade, if that counts. I joined because it sounded cool, and I didn't make cheer squad (I had wanted to just play in regular band and not marching band). However, my instructors ended up being really mean, so it was a pretty miserable time, and the drama was really stupid. There's nothing wrong with guard overall. My instructors just happened to be blatantly mean that year. The guard ended up getting great instructors the year after that.

Why did you pick the instrument that you did?
If you were interested in band, you had to attend a night meeting where the band director would play all of the instruments so you could decide what you wanted to try. I liked how flute and trumpet sounded, so I was stuck between the two. My mom had played flute when she was in sixth grade and still had the instrument, so I decided on that. Only ended up playing it for two and a half years before making the switch to trumpet in middle school.

As for the reasons why I played all the other instruments that I did?
Kind of the same reason as why I played my first instrument. I liked the way they sounded, with one exception. I ended up playing mellophone, French horn, some marimba, and some auxiliary. I didn't necessary like how auxiliary "sounded," but that's what I was put on the one year I played in the pit for marching band, so I didn't really have a choice.

What do you think you would be doing if you didn't join the band?
Probably some sport that I would've sucked at, just because I had to do something. And/Or drugs.

What instrument, if any, would you play if you didn't pick the one you did?
Well, I already played quite a few. I could've picked trumpet and played it for longer, but that's about it.

Why did you join band?

I actually didn't want to. In my Junior High School, nobody signed up for band. Literally. So the music teacher had to teach Foods Class instead. Sad, I know.
The next year, I switched schools, but they wanted to hear a valid reason why I should be able to go to that school. I thought about it, and my friends had been really pushing me to join band, choir, and their school play. So I used "band" as my valid excuse. I had NO interest in joining either, but I had to think of something! It wasn't that I disliked music (I was currently taking lessons for violin and piano), but it was that school was famous for TOO-AWESOME band people. I was going to start 4 years later than they did. Who wanted a newb in a sea of great musicians?
I reluctantly went to practices at my band teacher's and friends' urging. But being the music-lover I am, I started liking band, and with much determination, I kept practicing! That's another story, but I assure you, I love band now. 3nodding

Why did you pick the instrument that you did?

I play the alto sax as my main instrument because of my older sister, and I love it. I initially wanted to play flute, but my sister kept saying how cool the sax was. She played the sax in band for a year, but dropped out, so I figured, eh, why not? I love the sax now, and I even have a half-silver alto! 4laugh

What do you think you would be doing if you didn't join the band?

If I hadn't joined band, I wouldn't have a lot of my great friends. I created new friendships and bonded with my old friends during band class, trips, concerts, and credit-earning events. I don't know where I'd be without meeting my wonderful band director, either! He's one of my favourite teachers. Anyways, without my friends, I'd probably be some lonely person eating lunch by myself in the corner..

What instrument, if any, would you play if you didn't pick the one you did?

Probably flute or oboe. Just cause the oboe is different. =)

Why did you join band? Well, at the end of 8th grade I started attending football games with my friend and every time I would try to make her sit with the band. At the end of the year when we got to pick our classes for high school, my first choice was band, and I've loved it ever since.

Why did you pick the instrument that you did? I don't know. My first choice was going to be flute but then my friend in 6th grade said that "I don't have the lips for it." Then I thought to play french horn but my friend advised against that as well. Over the summer before my freshman year I was on eBay and saw a pretty spiffy trumpet and, BOOM, instant trumpet junkie.

What do you think you would be doing if you didn't join the band? If I wouldn't have joined band, I would have played volleyball(the sport of EVIL!) for the remainder of high school. Torture, pure torture.

What instrument, if any, would you play if you didn't pick the one you did? If I could play anything it would be either bassoon, or french horn like my idol. ^_^

At first because it was something to do, but later I stayed because I fell in love with it *cheesy and cliche but sooo true*

Why did you pick the instrument that you did?
Flute - It was my primary, I picked up on it quick and I liked the challenge
Horn - Its the most amazing and beautiful instrument ever
Sousa - We need a sousa and it's beasty

Trumpet - Easy switch from Mellophone to play in Jazz Band

What do you think you would be doing if you didn't join the band?
I'd have no life and no future

What instrument, if any, would you play if you didn't pick the one you did?

GoddessOfTheGods
Band was something I always wanted to do ever since I first heard a band and when I had the chance to finally choose my instrument in 4th grade; it was a no brainier that I wanted to be a percussionist and I haven't looked back since biggrin

Marching band was the same way. Whenever I saw the high school band march down the street I would just watch in awe. I love how the looked and sounded, especially the drumline. I thought they were the coolest people in the world (even cooler then pokemon and the power rangers xp ). Joining the marching band has been one of the best decisions I've ever made!

If I wasn't in band, I'd probably be 300 lbs of lazyness haha. I might be on the tennis team or something. I really don't know what I'd do without band and I can't see me playing anything else other then the drums. Maybe the clarinet or sax, but I would have probably given up on those long ago. I would be as passionate with any other instrument then I am with percussion.

What about the rest of you?

I wasn't given a choice in the matter. The school gave me two options: Band or Study hall. My mom gave me one option: Band. Before you laugh, I was a sixth grader. How many sixth graders can actually say no to their mothers? Your parents make all your big decisions at that age. Thank God I was allowed to pick my instrument. I decided if I was gonna be forced into the band, I was going to play the easiest instrument and do a half assed job at it. I picked percussion...

...I was such a fool. x.X

I'm not sure what made me even think about trying out for colorguard. But me and a few friends did and I ended up making it. And I'm glad I did, high school was the best four years I've had because of band.

I was in fifth grade, and I wasn't sure about anything except that I had to do somthing, and band seemed the best thing. I sucked majorly untill I moved to the school I'm at now. This band was bad. They were probably the best high school band I had ever heard with only 40 members (wich was probably just me since I really hadn't heard that many at the time). I was really frightened to go into it. It turns out, that somwhere in all that horible technique, there was a blooming musician!
Now there's nothing I'd rather do. biggrin

I didn't really have much of a choice. Both of my parents were band nerds all throughout middle school and high school, and my dad is a band director. I started out on flute and changed my mind about what instruments I wanted to play, so I've played flute, baritone, trumpet, alto sax, and horn.

I was in band from 5th grade-8th grade, didn't do it my freshman year, then I wanted to do something different so I did jazz band my sophmore year (I played bass guitar), then I really started missing band and joined it again my junior year, and now I'm a senior mellophone player for marching band, and if I'm lucky I'll play french horn during concert season unless I end up playing something else. .-.

But I effing love band. It's my favorite subject and all my best friends are in it and our whole band is like a big family. It's great. heart

That Girl is Fierce
The band needed Flutes...
I told my band director that I wanted to play Oboe, he said no, so I chose flute. I love band now. And I can't wait for Marching band.
And I was also interested in music so...yep.

Ive been playing the Alto since the 6th grade. My band director insisted I play the clarinet....knowing me I chose the Sax becuase the clarinet was a sissy instrument....and I loved how it sounded. I LOVE THE ALTO SAX AND I ROCK AT IT!!!!!

Why did you join band?

In sixth grade we had 1 elective, 3 options for the office to choose from. If option 1 and 2 were full, we would get option 3. Well, for me option 3 was band, and options 1 and 2 were full. I ended up liking it more then I originally thought.

Why did you pick the instrument that you did?

Well, all fifth graders in my state are forced to do band or orchestra once a week. Fourth graders are forced to play violin. Well, fourth I hated violin. It hurt my neck, and sounded like a dying cat. So, it was atomatically band. Well, at first I kind of wanted to play drums, but I had to rent and we couldn't afford. I went for flute, which my sister played the year before(though she is musically challenged and gave up) Unfortunately, our school was out of instruments. Well, it just happened that my mom had played clarinet when she was in fifth grade until she graduated highschool. She still had her wooden clarinet(about 60 years old) so she gave it to me. I decided I liked it come 6th grade.

What do you think you would be doing if you didn't join the band?

Nothing. I'm not athleticXD

What instrument, if any, would you play if you didn't pick the one you did?

Percussion. I've actually had second thoughts about doing pit next year, but I dont think I will

Why did you join band?
I was practically raised on music. From a young age my parents took me to classical concerts, and my love of music grew with my size and mine. I started piano with the start of elementary school. Not long afterward, I began singing. When sixth grade came, it was a no brainer. Music is my life, and life is good.
Why did you pick the instrument that you did?
I picked clarinet because of it's tone. Again, classical concerts are my cup of tea. I heard the Mozart Clarinet Concerto a few weeks before we chose instruments, and the impression stuck with me.
What do you think you would be doing if you didn't join the band?
I would mostly likely be in chorus. XD
What instrument, if any, would you play if you didn't pick the one you did?
Believe it or not, my director wanted me to start on trombone instead of clarinet, but I defied him in that case. But I would love to play French Horn. Wonderful, mellow sound that makes my heart melt every time.
