At first it was anime/manga that got me interested in Japanese and Japanese culture when I joined this guild like way over a year ago, and I gave up Japanese after like 2 days; dont' remember why. But I recently re-started listening to Japanese music and Utada Hikaru's KH songs are pretty much my motivation lol. (I'm a KH freak).

hmm...what got me interested in Japan...

Well, anime did play a part in it, though not like most people would think. The first time I ever knew I was watching anime was when my cousin busted out a Rurouni Kenshin dvd in original Japanese. I was out of the room, but when I heard the language, I headed straight for the tv, and started watching. I fell in love with the language, and the style of clothing in that anime, so I started looking into the reality behind it all...and the more I learned, the deeper and deeper into this love affair with Japan I fell.

When I started watching anime I wanted more, so I started reading manga, and then I started writing stories centered in Japan, so I wanted to study the culture as much as possbile to make my story as correct as possible... I'm not the most knowledgeable person on Japanese culture, but I think I do know a lot.
I don't know if I'd ever learn to speak the language, it's a
great language, but if ever I'd go to Japan it might just be for visiting and I don't know if I would want to learn such a complex langauge for a week or so in the country (however I would try to use japanese, however silly I may sound haha). I think it would be more helpful if I learned something like Spanish first.

i have been interested in japan is because of their culture, and they are awesome musicians. i also love speaking in japanese cause its so much easier for me to communicate with ppl, i have a difficulty speaking in english. its just so damn interesting to me.
not many ppl i know acknowledge another culture, language and religion.
talking about japan makes me feel like i am home from a long journey even though i am not from that country. heart heart heart

I probably got started when I was 10 or 11 and started watching anime. I began to pick up some words and decided to the learn the language through Rosetta Stone's program. I did a report on Japanese culture in high school. I guess one thing led to another. whee
