Korea chuckled as she pulled on a t-shirt which warned the world: "CAUTION: I utilize sesquipedalianisms sporadically."

"She's most definitely not a problem. Can I keep her forever? She cooks. I'm sorry your family's not ideal. The only consolation I can offer is that nobody's family is everything they want it to be, and that you're coming back to the States in the forseeable future."

Fiero could have eavesdropped if he had so chosen, but he was too busy trying to shift the eggs on his plate to make it look as if he had consumed more of them than he actually had. Korea had food-shifting down to an art form, but he hadn't her deft mastery. While Envy worked on her list, he read the ingredients and nutrition facts on the side of the orange juice carton. It was not very interesting to him, but he had fun sounding out the words under his breath, and trying to imagine what the strange, polysyllabic words meant, and might look like. None of them came off as being very edible-looking in his head.

Wendell felt relieved that Korea didn't mind taking her in for awhile. He ran a hand through his died hair. He had redone it right before leavig so they couldn't force him to fix it some strangr and horrible way for family pictures. The only fun he had been able to enjoy was helping his cousins paint their toe nails. "Heh, yeah my mother has taken her as a student. I swear she'd be the next Martha Stewert if it wasn't for her voice. I take it Fiero is enjoying her company?"

And I know I can't help who my family is, but at least I can complain to someone." He was so glad he would be returning back his deary room in about a week. He could enjoy true solitude for awhile and not have to worry about where Invidia was or what she was doing.

Envy watched Fiero move his food around, Wendell did that and got scolded for it but Fiero had said he hadn't tried them. "Fire-o not have to eat it. Not all like egg." She continued writing a few spices she wanted down. Basically Invidia planned to cook every meal if she could. It was something for her to do and she enjoyed it.

Fiero smiled appreciatively, relieved he didn't have to finish the egg. It was not, he decided, something he particularly enjoyed eating. He doubted if Korea would like it either.

"Yes," he heard Korea saying in her room. "He's enjoying having someone to fuss over and take around. I'm thinking maybe we should get a dog, or something that walks on a leash for when you come back. He likes having people to care for."

She was joking, of course. Her apartment contract forbade pets, expressly and vehemently. If the landlord found anything even resembling a pet, the renter was out. Still, Fiero smiled to hear her say that. He wouldn't mind having a pet.

"I understand about that. I've got people I complain to, too. Keeps me sane."

"Well I won't stay on the phone long. Long distance is a killer. I'll call later in the week to check on her. Goodbye." Wendell hung up the phone with the sounds of women speaking a foreign language in the background. And him sighing before arguing about something that sounded like his hair.

Invidia waited patiently in the kitchen with Fiero with her completed list. She doubled checked everything so she could at least make a few meals.

Korea bid Wendell goodbye and pressed the Talk button on the cordless, which she then returned to the kitchen at a slow amble. She was much more awake than she seemed, but it suited her to appear sleepy. People often expected less from those who did not appear as conscious as everyone around them. It worked with her mother all the time. Her father, on the other hand, knew her better, and knew that trick because he used it himself, so she was frequently more blunt with him.

She saw that breakfast had been prepared and thanked Invidia. She knew it had been Envy's doing, because Fiero wouldn't have known what to do with eggs. She wasn't a huge fan of eggs, but she could eat them, and the idea of a meal she didn't have to cook herself was, frankly, wonderful. She'd probably do the dishes to make up for it. She didn't particularly mind dish-washing as a chore. It allowed time for contemplation, as it was a fairly mindless activity.

"What've you got there?" she asked, nodding toward Envy's list and speaking around a mouthful of egg. Fiero covered his face with his hand. He despaired of her manners sometimes, and didn't think how he had acquired his manners.

Envy little dark hand held up the list. Her large magenta eyes stared at Korea, not really minding the lack of manners. It took Wendell forever to teach her not to eat with her hands. And since she didn't speak "talking with your mouth full" wasn't exactly a problem. The list seemed long but underneth everything it read "For 3 meals". This meant Envy was going to cook at least three meals for them. The list was long because she cooked with more spices and ingredients than speghetti involved.

"List for store. We go buy food. Then Fire-o and I go to amuze park." Envy was very curious about this park but she wanted to make sure there would be food in the house first. She was a guest here and wanted to be useful, not in the way.

Korea studied Envy's list and nodded. Nothing on it seemed unreasonable, and it didn't escape her that Envy planned to cook multiple meals. She felt a little guilty that Envy, a guest, was cooking during her stay, but the undera seemed to enjoy it. Not to mention, she would probably eat better if she cooked than if Korea or Fiero cooked. Maybe she should have Ewan over one night and make him cook one of his gourmet creations. She and Fiero would probably get sick from it, but Envy might enjoy watching that. Ewan could put on quite a show when he chose to.

Fiero stared out the window, not giving the list more than a cursory glance. The culinary arts were, to him, a mystery, and he was content to allow them to remain so. It made him that much more appreciative of a truly good meal. It was like magic. Korea said it was silly, but then, she couldn't cook that well, either. She wasn't as bad as she claimed, but she wasn't ready to have her own television show, either. Mostly, Fiero thought she found it easier to have others expect less of her, so they'd be less likely to be disappointed if she failed to deliver perfection.

"Well, I can wash the dishes later, if you'd like to go now. I can drop you off at the amusement park after we pick up the groceries, if you'd like." She addressed Envy because Envy was the guest, and Fiero lived with her all the time. To him she said, "You know where the tickets are, yes?"

He nodded, turning away from the window and going to the refrigerator, where a pair of tickets was stuck by a magnet advertising Korea's dad's company. "Right here."

"We go now please." Invidia wanted to make sure everything was gotten. Besides, this would be her first time going to the store without Mrs. Van de Burg. She went to grab her writing board incase she needed it at the store. Then the little banshee was ready to shop!

At the store, she was very choosy about which items she wanted. While she just had a generic item written down, she didn't want the cheap knock off version. Then again she didn't want to break Korea's budget, not knowing how their monetary income was. So she kept it pretty mid-ranged. Once they got to the spices, she seemed more like a conosuer than a banshee. She looked at the item in the bottle, shook it, weighted it with her hand, then choose the one she wanted. An hour later, they were finally done. She had also gotten quite a few veggies for herself to eat since the two she was staying with were obviously carnivores.

"Is ok?" She looked up at the woman paying for the food. If it was a lot she would have to ask Wendell's mother to pay Korea back. It seemed more polite that way.

"Sure," Korea told Envy as she paid using debit. "It's fine."

Fiero had opted to wait in the car, preferring to be slightly broiled than shop for groceries, which was an odious task at best. He didn't like knowing how unsanitary the place his food came from could be. It did not reassure him as to the healthfulness of what he was eating. It was better not to know, he had decided. He wasn't a germophobe, but some things were just disgusting. He could understand the presence of vermin, but the presence of mildews and other things of that nature, he was not so understanding about. Not when it came to something he would eventually ingest.

When the others got back to the car, he took a few sniffs to determine what had been purchased, and then was content to be driven to the amusement park, where Korea handed him a pair of tickets and cautioned him to be careful. He nodded, absently and beckoned for Envy to follow him.

Envy followed quickly behind Fiero, accidentally leaving her writing board under one of the bags. She didn't seem to notice due to all the bright lights, loud sounds, and people scurring about. Immediately she grabbed onto Fiero's arm, frightened by such a large group of people. Wendell didn't mingle with such large groups and the noises were distracted. She did think that at least sign language was helpful in the loud park.

"What we do first Fire-o?" She signed to her older companion, unsure of what anything really was. The strange carts the people got in and rode on tracks looked wierd. The large fluffy things the people were eating confused her. Then there was a big building with a big heart on either end. And peolpe went through the heart. What kind of place was that? It didn't look like a good place as the two people were always holding each other close when they came out.

Fiero, too, was overwhelmed by the press of people and was forced to hold still while he acclimated himself. Automatically he put one protective arm around Envy's shoulders to ward off people who may get too close to the anti-social young banshee. His garnet eyes scanned the immediate area, looking for somewhere to withdraw from the massive crowd. He almost missed her signed question, he was so distracted.

"Are you hungry?" He doubted it, but he felt he should ask. "Or would you rather do rides, first? I don't know much about the rides here."

Nevertheless, he was able to name several kinds of rides, including roller coasters, a carousel, and a haunted house. He guessed she would like the haunted house, if she wasn't scared by it. It occurred to him that having Envy get scared could be a bad thing. His eyes passed right over the building with the hearts on it because he had no idea what it was. Strange, and bad architecture would be his guess, off-hand, though the people going in and out of it looked like couples. Probably just coincidence.

"You might like the haunted house. There're fake ghosts and stuff in there. It's supposed to be scary."
PostPosted: Mon Jul 28, 2008 7:24 pm

"Fake ghost? Like in movie?" Envy looked very curious about the haunted house now. She had been allowed to watch horror movies and docutmentaries on creatures like herself. Mostly because Wendell wanted her to know how people would see her. This helped her try to be something better than what other's expected. She kept her grib on Fiero's hand as she floated towards the large house.

It didn't look haunted and didn't have the ghostly aura like the cemetary. So there really was no ghost here. She looked up to see fake little monsters and stuff popping out the roof and windows. "People are scared by this? It is not scary. We go in?" She pointed to the large door where the ticket man stood.

"Envy no have money. Or strange paper." She looked around at everyone paying with little tabs of paper. Then she saw the booth that was handing them out. She tugged on her companion's hand and pointed before signing. "There. There is paper. We get some?"

Fiero shook his head. "We don't have to. The stamps on our hands mean we can go on any ride without the pieces of paper. They're called tickets."

He smiled as they started in the direction of the haunted house. He'd never been in one, but he thought it would be interesting, and probably fun. He was very excited to be at the amusement park. It was so frivolous and ridiculous, but he was still very pleased. He liked to be frivolous and ridiculous on occasion. It would be good for Envy, too, he guessed. Though most people didn't get their jollies going through haunted houses. He suspected she would be very amused by the ride.

The line was short because it was early, and so they were soon in a cart which squeaked ominously and made Fiero wish he'd thought to bring earplugs. The squeaking stopped miraculously, however, when the cart bashed against a pair of doors which swung open and let a rush of stale-smelling air hit their faces as they went into a very dark room. It wasn't quite dark enough to hide the park employees moving in the shadows from his eyes, which saw pretty well in the dark.

"Let's hope it gets scarier," he whispered to Envy, smirking

It was dark enough for Envy to not be able to sign properly so she just nodded to Fiero's statement. The little banshee looked around, confused as to why this was called a haunted house. It was just dark. Then some red lights came on, highlighting some wooden cut outs of scary faces. The little banshee blinked, again not sure why this was scary. Then she felt something on her shoulder, as she looked over a skeleton fell down between them.

Envy eeped a bit but the skeleton was drawn up before she could respond. She looked to Fiero for a moment before a guy in a hockey mask jumped out and yelled at them. Envy just kinda stared. She had never seen the movie he was suppose to be from so she didn't really get phased. Others jumped out as skeletons and ghosts, even a doctor with blood all over him. Envy seemed to react most to this by moving closer to Fiero. They move through the house with lights flashing like lightning, illuminating severed heads or other disgusting things, and making the place seem more eerie. Then something amazing happened.

Another park emoployee jumped out as was was suppose to be a golbin. He went "booga booga". Envy found that hilarious and suddenly started laughing. But the laugh was not unpleaset, in fact it was quiet pretty for a banshee. She doesn't realize it so she puts her hands over her mouth, afraid she has hurt his sensitive hearing.

Fiero's ears felt like they were under assault throughout the ride, between the screams of the other passengers, the shrieks of the ghouls, and the squeaking track their cart ran on. When at the end he saw Envy's mouth open, he thought briefly that he was going to die, but was surprised to hear laughter bubbling forth. It was amused laughter, the sort which was not forced, and therefore pleasant to hear. That startled and amazed him, because he had not thought banshees could make any sound safely, even laughing. Maybe it was something to do with the curse on her? He didn't delve too deeply into the reasoning, because that wasn't the most important part to him at the moment.

Had her voice behaved as it usually did, others would have been clapping their hands over their ears, doubling over, and moaning. At least, that's kind of how Envy's voice made him feel that last time he'd heard her vocalize at a normal volume. It was definitely something good. As they walked past the souveneir booth near the haunted house he noticed that there were pictures for sale of the last group to go through the ride - their group - and that he and Envy were pictured. The camera had caught Envy mid-laugh.

It was too unique a picture to miss, so he paid an over-inflated price and purchased it. Explaining his purchase to Envy was more difficult because he was speaking much too quickly for his hands to keep up as he tried to sign, "You laughed! Did you hear? You laughed and my ears didn't hurt, and no one else even noticed!"
