Hello!

I'm Suzy! I just recently moved to Charlotte, NC from New York. I grew up in California and Arizona and I lived in Vancouver, CA for a bit.

I'm 28, married, two cats, two hermit crabs and a turtle. I'm a graphic artist and I hope to become a freelance illustrator one day.

I'm all about caring for the environment. I may not be omg off the grid, but I do try to make the best choices. One of my biggest dreams is to get a house where I can have solar panels, a food garden, a rain barrel, a compost pile and all those other goodies.

Hey, i'm rachel, 17, and i've lived in arizona my whole life.
i've always been interested in organic eating, but it's really hard to do when you don't live on your own and buy your own food. and a lot of processed/fast foods taste good! xD
i'm also interested in organic living in general. when i finally get out on my own i think i'll be better at it.
let's see.. .stuff about me...
i work at jamba juice, art is my life and it's what i will be majoring in college, i love music, i love birds and animals in general.
i have an amazing boyfriend named Luis who i freaking love to death. he's in a band, which is awesome. haha. xD
i LOVE body mods and i currently have one tattoo, 00g ear lobes, and a helix-to-helix industrial that is sort of going through a rough healing time. just wait til i'm 18, oh man....
like i said, i LOVE birds, and i have 5 mourning doves and a pigeon... everyone hates them and it really makes me mad. i don't understand how you could hate an innocent, adorable, fluffy little pigeon... i love mine to death and i want more. her name is pidger, and she's having a bit of an egg-laying problem, but it's okay i love her anyway. xD

Welcome Suzy and Rachel too :3

I used to have a carrier pigeon named Phaser. He was abandoned and I tried my hand at keeping birds. Unfortunately with two cats I didn't have the resources to give him what he needed, so he went to a great home in the city. I actually LOVE pigeons - I love the cooing sound the make. So soothing.

my pigeon is just a run of the mill pigeon xD
we caught her injured, though. she's blind in one of her eyes.
but she's SO smart!! it's really cute because she'll come find me if i'm in another room. and she's even came up to me and pecked at my feet, i guess to tell me she wants in her cage lol.

I figure I'd better post an intro...

With food shortages looming in the immediate future and insane gas prices hanging over our heads, I've started to look into sustainable lifestyles and practices. Of course, one webpage leads to another, and over the course of my research I keep finding more information on what the human race is doing wrong and how we can fix it.

Now, just to get this out on the table: I am a happy, healthy practitioner of a low-carb, rather high-fat omnivorous diet. People can rant and rail against low-carb diets all they want, but it won't change the raw truth of how healthy they can be and have been since time immemorial. (If you're curious, I can send you links that will show you just how well it actually works, despite the ADA/AHA repeating the same outdated dietary dogma.)

Now, that said, I do love vegetables and I love making them tasty and I love veg*ns who can teach me new tricks with them. I'm most definitely not afraid to try veg*n food if it's tasty and nutritious! wink

Also, I am all too aware of the environmental impact that intensive meat production has had on the planet, and I would like to see that change. For me, it's not quite so simple as switching to tofu and quinoa - I guess good bloodsugar control wasn't much of an issue for my Nordic ancestors who had more time to hunt than to farm, so it followed the "use it or lose it" rule of natural selection. I've been hypoglycemic since childhood. Now, a lot of doctors seem to think that the roller-coaster ride of high and low bloodsugar is something that people with hypoglycemia will have to live with, fixing their 'low' moments with something carby to boost them up to a temporary 'high,' but I'm living proof that it doesn't have to be that way.

On the other hand, I'm pretty good about making dinner from scratch, and I (like many other low-carbers, actually) eat waaaaaaay more fruits and veggies than your typical fella on the Standard American Diet. Almost no over-processed foods put into individual wrappers. So... yeah.

I enjoy reading about biology, history, how-to guides, and other nerdy stuff like that. I also like taking photos. I also try to live by Alfred North Whitehead's philosophy that "an unflinching determination to take the whole evidence into account is the only method of preservation against the fluctuating extremes of fashionable opinion."

I've never understood the low-carb diet. Because wouldn't low carb mean cutting back on just about everything you eat? Or do you just avoid sugars and the starchy carbs like potato, wheat, corn and all their products? (bread, pasta, etc.)

Whoo hoo! Arizona: )

We were so so close to moving back to Arizona, but chose NC instead.

If you want to go to a great organic laid back place to eat you gotta go to Joe's Farm Grill. It's in the newer parts of Gilbert (ray and elliot i think) best food ever! The coffee shop next door is good too!

Hey, I just got an invite, because on of you saw one of my older threads I made.

Anyways, I'm David.
I'm 22, and live in Western NY.
I don't do much, because I'm mainly working all the time, on 12 hour shifts. So in my spare time, I'm either sleeping, or getting ready for work.
When I do have a day off, I'm usually in the GD, playing some game, or hanging out with my friends.

I can't think of much more right now. I'm too hungry to think. User Image
