My DivaCup is coming from Amazon on Monday. It's a replacement for my beloved Lunette which I had had for five years.

The holes ripped out of mine making it slightly uncomfortable on the insertion. It still works fine though believe it or not, and I'll be keeping it just in case the DivaCup isn't as good.

Lunette is no longer available in the U.S. because the FDA doesn't recognize it as being safe, as it is made in Finland. Apparently sometime in the future that ban will be lifted but I wanted a new cup now and I didn't want to wait.

As with my Lunette, I order the larger size B or post-childbirth model. I have never had children but I am 30 and felt the larger size would be appropriate. When I ordered my first cup five years ago I took a wild guess that I'd need the larger size even though I'm a petite person of average weight (5'4, 122 lbs.) but somehow I figured if I bought the little one I'd regret it. biggrin

I'm excited to try a different brand but I will miss my first brand a lot. It has been very good to me.

So far I love it! I instructed him to get size one, the small one. It took me 3 tries to get it in right, but I believe it's right now. I can't feel it, but I'm definitely aware that it's there, in a similar way to you're aware of a tampon, except those are a lot more noticeable.

No leaks yet, I really wish I had it earlier this morning to put it to the test, lately I've only been really heavy on my first day. I am psyched to have it for tomorrow, because wearing tampon or a pad to the aquarium would be sooo uncomfortable! It's a lot of physical work there, and I usually only have time to use the bathroom once or twice in the 8-10 hours that I'm there, which makes tampons a bad idea.

I will post updates if anything changes. I love the fact that they rely on word of mouth for their advertising.

I have never been aware of tampons, and I use super plus. It's actually happened to me on more than one occasion that I FORGET about it. I'll be spotting after my period is over and very embarrassingly admit I realized I forgot my tampon. Even worse, sometimes I can't remember if I took the old one out. I sometimes assume I did and put another one in and actually run around with two and I have no idea. redface

The cup is probably the best thing for me to prevent this from happening. I know leaving a tampon in for more than 8hrs can be really bad. Heck tampons in general are bad for you. So I'm going to keep trying to find the right one for me.

Zeepers, you could have killed yourself like that! I posted a status on my facebook saying I got a Diva cup and I highly recommend it to all of my female friends. I got a really rude comment back from one of my friends...."I was going to get one, but then I would have to stop shaving my legs. I heard there's a disclaimer on the box that only really butchy bulldykes use them" This coming from a girl who claims to be bi and my best friend. Wow.

Wow, this is, to say the least, intriguing surprised I've never heard of those things, but look really interesting. Checked their store locator and there's one in my local mall, 10 minutes away by bus from here! ^_^ I'll go there monday first time! <3

Loads of people are ignorant. Just ignore it. I love saving money and doing things that are better for the environment. I don't care what people think of my decisions when I know they are right. Let her throw money away on tampons and risk TSS, it's her loss.

That's pretty much what I told her. I love it and ome of my other friends were interested, including one who was on the fence about it because she wasn't sure if it would work.

Well, I got my DivaCup and I've used it long enough to write a review.

I must say I dislike it immensely. Compared to the Lunette, the shape is longer and not quite as wide. The length is odd, and if it's not inserted far enough it's quite uncomfortable.

It also is made of a less flexible silicon so it doesn't want to unfurl once it's inside.

The other problem is with suction. I don't know if the holes are smaller or what, but there's a suction which is very uncomfortable. I have to squeeze it a bit once it's inside and opened up but if I squeeze it too much it collapses and I have to position it over again.

It's a huge pain. If this had been my first cup I don't think I would understand what all the hype is about and I might be inclined to go back to wasteful, dangerous tampons again. Luckily I'm a veteran and my first cup was amazing.

This means that if you're struggling with DivaCup there is hope! Even though Lunette isn't currently available in the U.S., it's just a matter of time before it is approved for sale once again. Once it is you can bet I'll be shelling out for another cup asap because this one sucks, literally.

Just look at the size and shape differences on these things and you'll understand why they're not "one size fits all".

I just ran across some posts on LiveJournal that say turning the Diva inside out might help. I'm gonna try that out and see if it works any better.

That's too bad Ellavemia. I'm finally getting my DivaCup to work. (I have to stand to put it in or might as well not have it at all.)

I like the Lunette because the nib thing is really long and I find it quite difficult to remove the DivaCup with the stubby little nib. I will probably purchase a Lunette as my second cup in the next few months.

I always have to stand up too. The cervix position changes completely from sitting and standing. Well it does in my case anyway.

Guess what? I flipped it inside out last night and it really did help! It's not perfect but it's a lot better. The suction problem is minimized and it pops right open when I insert it now. I can live with this.

i have the post childbirth divacup because as my name suggests, i have kids, i do get a little leaking problem the first 2 days, but that's because of how heavy those days are, i have to change it literally 5 or 6 times a day and still get a little leakage. im considering investing in cloth liners for my undergarments for those days.

but i learned the hard way to ONLY discuss cups with like-minded people, because you WILL meet hostility from "the outside world" very strong hostility. on one of the mom message boards i saw a poor mom get ripped to shreds for asking how other people delt with cleaniing them if caught in a public restroom. all she got was people screaming about how disgusting it was, and how we cup users were giving them all aids because "OMG blood haz aids! nomatterwat! even if u does not has it, u still givs it to the norml pplz!" (i think they where asleep in elementary school where they explain it has to be fluid-to-fluid contact to get it). i tried to help the poor lady by telling her how i'd hop into the handicap stall and work as quickly as possible soas to not keep it from someone who might need it, that way i'd have access to water privately. big mistake. i never said i rinsed it out in the sink but that was enough to get them on me, blaming me as a source for why they dont use public restrooms, and giving me the same round of how disgusting i was, how i should just be normail, blah blah blah. i retorted with a "it's better that wearing diapers sitting in the blood all day (read:pads) or having a piece of bleached, chemically treated cotton up my *expletive starting with a t meaning v****a*

lol sorry to rant, humans just frustrate me so much. it gets to the point i only talk to other "crunchy" people or my fellow otherkin because normal humans just make my head esplode! hell, i dont even use the normal forums on gaia at all, i only really post here.

Yeah, I've met with the same kind of stuff. I say, F it. I'm proud of being a cup user and if other people can't handle that, they can either keep it to themselves or go away. I'm sorry about your bad experience though. I hope you were able to help that other mom!
