She was surprised when Vlaityn offered to spot her. "Thanks Vlaityn! I know I have enough for what I need. I'm just worried about what I need!" She sighed at the thought of all the good books she was going to have to put back. Through with her butterbeer, she looked at her watch. "I can't do the ice cream now. I didn't realize what time it is! I have to get to Flourish and Botts! Hopefully I will see you two later! If not I will definately see you on the train!" Saying her goodbyes, she picked up her bag and went out the back door. She took out her wand and hit the appropriate bricks, and watch Diagon Alley appear.

"Ah yes, you have to do your people rounds." A sarcastic smile flitted on Vlaityn's mouth. "Always have loved people, haven't you. I'll never understand it. I, on the other hand, have to use extreme stealth to move from shop to shop without being seen. Except at the the last place I went. Had to grab some a new knife. I met our new Potions teacher. But other than that, stealth usually works. But we can just do ice cream later."
Vlaityn grew silent on thinking about the teacher and supplies. School starting. It always unnerved her to go back. The before school starts scramble was always hectic. She turned to Adhara.
"We'll see you later. Probably in Flourish and Blotts. I still need to get in there.... Maybe we'll catch our sugary snack later. Don't get stomped by the shopping crowd!"

"Bye Addiiie~!" Sam waved vigorously at Adhara's retreating back. She turned back to Vlaityn and shrugged, giving her a look of mock embarrassment. "Honestly, I never understood it much either. Especially since I know how awful people can be. It's really hard, when your mind and gut both give you knowledge and beliefs that conflict so strongly!" She laughed, maybe a little more loudly than necessary. "Still, I wish I could be as sneaky as you. It'd probably come in handy." Seeing Vlaityn's expression, Sam smirked, waving a hand in front of her face. "You alright there, Val? Didn't get lost in your own mind again, did you?"

"You're indicating I've been found? Who found me?!" Vlaityn started acting frantically in a mocking manner. She then gave up the act and smirked at Sam. "Just thinking, sorry. And yeah, yeah, I know. You just get along well with people. I'll try not to hold it against you. Try. No promises. But if I do, it's because I'm jealous."

Sam cupped her hands over her mouth, her breathing sounding raspy through her fingers. "Vlaityn Brales, this is the Auror Department! We've caught you red-handed! Come out with the mind and your hands in the air!" She brought her hands back down, revealing her wide grin. Then she looked incredulous. "Jealous?! What on earth is there to be jealous of?" She put on a melodramatic tone, accentuating with overdone hand movements. "People...such awful creatures. Only out to take advantage of a poor...kind...soul...like myself. GASP!" Sam bent backwards in a fake swoon before coming back up laughing. "The kind ones always get trodden on or forgotten about in the end, don't worry! Also," she changed tack quickly before Vlaityn could say anything, "tell me about the new professor! I hope they're forgiving of a royal Potions flunkee like me."

Vlaityn rolled her eyes and smiled while mumbling something about 'locking Sam away and sending her to a drama academy'.
"Oh! The new professor. Well," She had to remember his name. What was it? Oh yes! "Professor Jackson Krouso, I think. He seems very nice. A bit scatterbrained. And enthusiastic. And really young too. We pretty much plowed into each other. . . . Nearly broke my new knife. . . ." She took a moment to pout and think about the near tragedy for a moment. "And he said he wasn't from Slytherin. Isn't that odd? I think it's very odd." Vlaityn tilted her head to the side, checking to see if she'd forgotten anything. "Oh, and he's albino."

If eyebrows could disappear into hair, Sam's would have. "Albino? You don't say. I have to admit, I find that more surprising than the fact that he wasn't Slytherin." Sam shrugged. "I guess you really can't judge a book by its House. Still," she said nonchalantly, bouncing on the balls of her feet, "it'll be nice to have someone nice to make the dungeons a little less gloomy."

"Completely agreed. I'm sure he'll be a good teacher. Make walking down to that mildew-y underworld a lot better. Yeck." The dungeons at Hogwarts were just too dark and dingy for Vlaityn's tastes.
"Well, here's to hoping he's not a complete homework and essay Nazi."

Sam laughed. "Agreed! I'll drink to that." She raised her still half-full butterbeer bottle in salute. Sam drank quietly from her butterbeer for a moment, casting furtive glances at Vlaityn. She was steeling herself, because she didn't like invading someone's personal space unless invited. "Hey Val, can I ask you something?"

The sound of her nickname caught her attention. Not many people used it. Not that she didn't like it. Most people were just wary of such a level of familiarity with Vlaityn.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah, sure, anything."

"Well, I was just curious. About America. Y'gonna go back once you graduate? ...Permanently?" Sam felt and probably looked uncomfortable to be asking something that may be touchy. "I mean, I know you get taken on the mickey a lot for your accent, but it's pretty clear that it's important to you. I mean, depending on what job you do, you could probably do it anywhere."

The question thew Vlaityn through a loop. Mostly because she'd been trying so hard not to think about it. Not that she should have been ignoring it, but that's just how it happened.
She sighed and then tried to find an answer that didn't make her feel terrified. "Well, I honestly don't know." She looked away. It's a weakening feeling to not know what to do with yourself. "I'd like to go back to the States and just live there. It's my home. But now that my family is here, it would be an empty home. My dad would be pleased if I helped with his companies and later ran them. I've always got his muggle company to turn to for a nice solid job. And he's still connected with his family's broom company. Being a Healer would be nice, too. . . . I figured I could manage any of them here or back home. . .But in the end, I really don't know what I'm going to do with myself." She finished lamely, in a small voice.
Vlaityn stared off for a second and then turned back to Sam with a smile. "But you know my mom. She's banking that I'll just fall in love with some British boy and get married, and never leave. You know, grow up to be a mom like her." She chuckled at this. That was her mom's hope for her the second Vlaityn had been born.

"Mm." Sam was eyeing her feet, which she was shuffling in circles on the floor. "Well...we're lucky in that we've got that cushion of the Muggle world and all its options, I guess." Sam looked up, smiling encouragingly. "So, really, there's no hurry. At least you've got tons of choices! So, just take your time and figure out what you like doing best. Maybe you could find a position in your dad's company that would enable you to travel back and forth a lot?" Sam smirked. "Of course, a travelling job would be hard on your mum. Can't give her any grandkids when you're not home long enough to cook supper. Hm, well, maybe you could put the smaller ones in a suitcase?" She mimed stuffing something into an invisible suitcase, apparently with difficulty.

"I figured if I use duffel bags, I can keep cramming the kids in till they're about, oh I dunno, 11, depending on how tall they are." Vlaityn smiled broadly at the very absurd idea of it. "You know, hope they don't kick and scream too much. . . . Might cause some unwanted attention. Perfect parental behavior award, please?" She added, striking and proud, haughty pose.
"But really, I'll probably be sticking around here for the time being. At least for the next few years. It'd be hard to leave the people here too. And I got to see what I can do to make Mom and Daddy proud." A half-lidded, lazy smile spread. "You know, Supreme World Dictator. Something like that."

"Your poor children," Sam said, shaking her head in mock disgust. "They'll be midgets from all that time spent in cramped spaces. I dunno, I might have to give you that award for NOT having any!" Sam laughed, patting Vlaityn's shoulder as if placing a medal there.
"I can understand that. As much as Leeds is the butt of Britain's jokes, I love my city. Can't help it." Sam shrugged. "Hey now, you can't set such low standards for yourself! Your parents will only suffer disappointment." Sam grinned wickedly. "Why not, Supreme Empress of the Universe?"
