guard is definetly a part of the band. part of marching band is to give the crown something to not only hear, but to look at. If it was only a band marchign around, it wouldn;t be nearly as spectacular.

I'm in guard and I believe we are a part of the band...unfortunately I'm one of the few that thinks so, since everyone except drumline dislikes colorgaurd and the colorgaurd dislikes everyone except drumline. There are a couple of us that venture beyond that, but otherwise...not so much :/

color guard is definitely part of the band because a guard member can try out for the role of drum major, which makes them equal footing as the rest of the band/percussion/pit

Color Guard is part of the band because they are the ones that make the formations better, and make the band look awesomer (if that's a word).

No, they're not part of the band. My band doesn't have them, and we are the best in my county at least.

They are most definitely NOT part of the band. They just get in the way, really.

Honestly color guard is NOT part of the band. They are never on time with each other or the music generally (no matter what band I've seen) and they really just get in the way and they are so snobby. They act like "HURP I'M COLOR GUARD RESPECT ME." Yeah okay, you don't have to even get to your spot on time or march and play. Just twirl your flag on your own time and stay out of the way stare
Also, you don't NEED flags. Flags are just something there to distract the audience if the band messes up. Do you think ANY of the judges ( even the color guard judge) give a crap about guard? They're looking at the feet of the band members playing and moving. Not the guard standing in place twirling a flag.
Guard is not part of band. They are not needed. If we didn't have guard, good. Maybe we could actually teach them how to play an instrument (considering none of ours do) and maybe they would get in step and you know...be on time.

Guard is certainly part of the band. We have to do all of the things that the instruments do plus more. Everybody in our band always complains about how "AW, GUARD HAS IT SO EASY, WE HAVE TO MEMORIZE STUFF, PLAY MUSIC, AND ROLL OUR FEET. BAWWWWWW!" We have to memorize our stuff (spots and routines), roll our feet, stay in step, and do fundamentals just like everybody else. No offense to anybody, but colorguard works more than the instruments. We have extra practices and we start earlier. And the reason why guard wants respect is because nobody ever respects us even if we're good. So, overall, guard is part of the band.

Guard is part of the marching band. We (well my band anyway) have our dances and flag work match the music and we are in time.

The guard is not part of the band. The band is part of the band. All the guard does is make us look good. In fact, I hate the guard. They put their flags in my way, they hit a marching band member in the head and gave them a concussion, and all in all, should not be in the band.
