Vajra B. Hairava Imagine just sort of putting your tongue in the position for the normal /l/, and blowing. The key is that its voiceless, meaning you're vocal cords do not go. Look up voiceing on wikipedia if you don't know what that is. Essentialy, make the L position and blow, kind of. It sounds a bit like a mad goose. Kinda weird... I was getting something that sound a bit like a cross between Arabic S and 'sh.' Yeah.

Arabic S? Some kind of actual phonetic notation could you give? Would that just be the emphatic s?

Why yes, yes it would be.
I"m just lazy, it's easier to embolden the letter 's' and assume people will magically know what I mean.

I personally don't like Dutch and Chinese. Dutch because of the funny accent, and Chinese just because... Eh, I don't really know, but I just don't really like the way it sounds. sweatdrop I also am not too fond of my parents' language; Tagalog. When they talk fast, they sound like chickens clucking. It gets really annoying after a while. gonk

Lawrencew [skroddle] I'm not a fan of eastern Asian languages. Especially Chinese. How come? What is it about them that you don't like? And when people say harsh, what do they mean? Like, sounds like K, and T and P and Ch and throaty noises right? I'm not sure there is a reason really.. Also forgot to mention Albanian. Hate the way it sounds stressed

I love German and all its dialects, and though I think Norwiegan is a beautiful language on paper, it sounds like nails on a chalkboard whenever I hear someone speak it.
On the otherhand, Swahili is a beautiful language on the tongue, and I'm jealous to anyone who speaks it fluently.

Ukraninan sounds lovely.
Incidentally, theres a person in a class of mine who speaks Russian and Ukranian. Is cool. Though it so happens that shes got the ugliest voice ever when speaking English.

On the link IE put up, what's the difference between the Hungarian texts?
So far, I've listened to most of those clips and I must say that Tagalog, though still very pretty, sounds the least appealing to me.
