Kyraa spent her efforst calming Deo down. She was starting to hurt her arm, and if she was to go patrolling... if, then she really wanted to be in decent health. However, Deo's fear was infectious to the pigmentless creature.

She was shaking slightly when she heard footsteps. They neared the hallway and tried the door, finding it locked. Ohplease, in the name of our ancestors, keep us safe...

It was Ally. Kyraa let out a giggle as she went to the door, thougn ot before prying herself loose of Deo's grip. She unlocked the door and opened it fully, rushing and hugging the leader. "Oh, Ally, I'm so sorry. I wasn't paying attention and Deo snuck up on me and oh I just ruined everything didn't I? Was anyone hurt? What happened?"

Caught in fear, Deoridhe's fingers closed convulsively when Kyraa's arm was removed. The human was female? Kyraa was ..opening the door! The humans was

Alliance.

That unexpected shift knocked Deoridhe mentally sideways. She blinked at their new leader, too overcome to think of anything to say, the panic only slowly leaving her features.

Alliance glared at the young females, caping her wings over her shoulders.

"Everything is fine," she said, closing her eyes in exasperation. "Everything is fine, sisters."

She sat down on a nearby stool, unbuckling the ornamentation on her browridges and placing it aside. She rubbed her forehead while she thought. "Kyraa, please take Deo somewhere and help her calm down. Katane, go with them."

She grabbed a nearby glass of water. "Ruevian, Las, give me a minute, and then meet me back up at the rooftop, please. If you can find Deep Vermillion, please bring him, too."

Avalon help us, she thought. Avalon help us all.

We've been found.

Katane rolled her eyes (though she was careful not to let the elders see this) and followed Kyraa further inside.

"What's got you so upset Deo? It's not like we couldn't've handled it. There was only the one human, and he left without a fight. I talked to him, you know."

She threw this in casually, though she was hoping it impressed the other hatchlings.

Deoridhe gaped at Katane. "Th... he... you spoke to him." Her voice squeaked. "He knows we're here? They're going to come. They're going to kill us all. We have to leave, we have to leave, NOW!" She stood up halfway through her words, wings flaring out to either side as the panic returns to her features. "They'll never let us live. We have to go."

"I don't think he wants to kill us. Ruevian pounced on him, and instead of swatting her off like a fly, he just left. He probably could've done just that if he wanted to. He was like 10 feet tall and all covered in metal. I think maybe he was trying to look like a gargoyle himself, but it wasn't very convincing."

Katane cloaked her wings a bit irritably. She didn't like the close quarters of the indoors very much.

Kyraa accepted Alliances order and went with the three girls, quietly listening to them talk. Now that whatever had happened was over, she felt her curiousity swell with interest. "He tried to look like a gargoyle himself? Do you think he was a hatchling that was abandoned by the rest of them and sought comfort with us, maybe?"

Her marble figure took a seat in the room they'd gone to in the lower part of the tower. The conversaton with Ally was still on her mind. "I don't think the fact he knows is a problem, really. But... Katane, were they able to figure out how he found us? Please tell me that they had enough time before he left."

Katane shook her head, strands of green hair falling onto her face.

"He never said anything about how he found us. Just said that he wanted to learn about us. Heh. He called our clan a 'tribe'. I don't think he's an abandoned kid or anything. He seemed more like a scientist nerd looking for a new species or something. Or maybe he has an inferiority complex. All that metal might be compensating for something, eh?"

Katane giggled. She thought people were the most intersting topics of conversation, but she'd never had so much to work with.

Ruevian had finished her coffee, opting to wait a moment before obeying Alliance's order, and at Katane's last words, she scowled, setting her mug down and approached the hatchling, eyes cold.

"You think it's funny, huh?" she asked, her voice low as she got closer. "You were too damn busy putting yourself in danger to notice, but our intruder was more than just some guy in a metal suit. He was here for a reason, and I highly doubt it was to be your friend." Eyes narrowed, she glared at the rest of the hatchlings before turning back to Katane.

"I wouldn't have HAD to jump him if you had ANY sense in that goddamned brain of yours! I didn't attack him because I wanted to. I had to discract him from YOU."

She sneered in disgust and, brushing past Katane more roughly than was neccesary, she exited the room to wait for Alliance to finish up.

Gendou leaned back in his chair, turning it away from his desk so he could gaze out of the massive floor-to-ceiling windows surrounding his penthouse office. He''d always loved the feeling of open sky around him, and his ''Aerie'' gave him that feeling while he worked.

"A new species," he mused. There was so much potential here. He yawned and stretched. Glancing at his watch, he realized there were only a few hours until morning. He would need to catch some shut-eye before then.

Closing his eyes and settling back in his comfortable, high-backed chair, the CEO of Mitsui Heavy Industries smiled knowingly to himself as he drifted into a peaceful sleep, the similarly sleeping city of Durem laid out before him like pieces on a chessboard.

Landing on the roof, from a patrol of the southern sections of Durem, Weevil was confused to see none of her clan members out and about. She walked around the roof for a few minutes, stretching her wings and listening to tap of her claws on the ground. The night was cool, but pleasant. As she neared the kitchen, though, Weevil realized that's where her clan was -- she could hear them talking, loudly. They sounded upset and, for a second, harsh memories of the attack twenty years ago flashed and Weevil shuddered. She shook her head and ran a hand through her short red hair. She was overreacting, for no reason. Surely nothing like that would happen again. Pausing to take a deep breath, Weevil opened the door and walked into the brightly lit kitchen.

There was a severe, tense feeling in the room and Weevil glanced around, taking in everyone's expressions. No one looked happy, although the hatchlings looked both scared and excited.

"Good evening," Weevil said to the group as a whole. "What's up?"
PostPosted: Sun Aug 14, 2005 5:36 pm

Alliance finished her water and set the empty glass on the table. She stood up, and grabbed her browridge ornamentation. "Evening, Weevil. If you would meet me up on the rooftop shortly, I need to discuss something with you."

She exited the small kitchen space, still clutching the gold circlet in her talons. As she walked up the stairs to the outside, she made a mental tally.

Ruevian will probably want nothing to do with the humans, she thought. The hatchlings....well, they seem to like humans. The elders certainly will want to pack up and move again, but Las and Weevil?

She sighed. She was the Leader now, she needed to look out for the interests of the entire Clan. She was supposed to make the decisions and have everyone follow them.

But she couldn't. She grew up with most of these gargoyles. She used to play in the old Rookery with them, and she looked up to her older clanmates, like Ruevian. She didn't want to make decisions for them without consulting them first. If that was being a weak Leader, then so be it.

She exited the stairwell onto the rooftop. She jumped onto the side of the high tower, and dug in her claws, feeling the familiar crunch of stone at her fingertips. She climbed to the top of the tower, where she could be alone with her thoughts until her rookery-sisters were ready.

Clearly audible from the rooftop of the Church, a scream echoes. A human scream, the sound of terror. The sound is cut off sharply and an utterly inhuman keening follows, fading rapidly into the distance.

Something...or someone...is on the move.

Weevil nodded to Alliance, her old friend and now leader. The other gargoyle walked out of the kitchen, clearly distressed. Staring after her for a few seconds, Weevil's thoughts raced as she tried to think of what might have happened. Obviously something important, but everyone seemed safe, so what? Her golden eyes flickered around the room.

She grabbed an apple from the table and, biting into it, made to follow Alliance.

Alexi Terianis

PostPosted: Mon Aug 15, 2005 12:23 pm

Terianis had just entered town, having spent the previous day roosting on the ruins of an old building. Any guess could be made as to what it had once been, but it served as good cover. Anyone passing by would see a statue that could easily belong there, so it served its purpose. He made note of it, should he pass this way again.

But that had been during the day. Now night had fallen, and he had slowly and carefully moved through town. He needed to find a place to stay, and more importantly, other gargoyles. Alone, no gargoyle lives long. This much he knew, as he crouched lost in thought on the top of the maze-like vents and accoutrements of skyscrapers.

The grim-looking gargoyle raised his eyes from where he crouched atop a tall building near the center of the city. He had heard a scream, a human scream. What worried him was what came after, as it was not human at all. Whoever was here was fool enough to make such a sound? To give themselves away? Humans could kill themselves with little worry, but it was uncommon for them to forgive if someone -else- killed their kind.

As these thoughts flew through his mind, he looked around, trying to determine where would be best to view the city from, a place where he may quickly put a stop to whatever was happening. He didn't want to be hunted.

With a leap from the roof, he quickly glides his way towards the tallest building in the city. The Church of Mod. Through the silent glide, the eyes of Terianis search the night for movement, and dangers. At best, he'd find a clan of gargoyles that was smart and prosperous. Worse, they may be dumb and horrid. At worst, he could be alone with something far worse than humans in this despicable jungle of metal and stone.
