yeah, i only have been to the one that my school holds, but what's cool about it is that we hold it at a camp in Maryland, so we go there for a week, it's pretty nice, and completely clothing optional, because it's privatly owned!

OK, this is what happened to me it was my freshman at John Jay HS and this was when I played Trumpet of course, but we were at practice and in the show toword the end of the drill I had to lead the Trumpet Section into the last set of the show. And in doing this We had to go right in front of the Drumline and i got to the spot just fine at practice. The Next day was the football game and Half time came, Everything went great great until the last set my Friend Sid a 10th grader step on my shoe and made me fall down and i was trampled by all of the Drumline nad I had to get up and run back to my spot in front 5,000 people. And it really hurt to, but all i diid was hurt my ankle though. I went to practice the next day for contest.

Our band camp is actually at school the week before it starts. This is when we have three days to prepare for a concert with everyone in the band. This is also where were audition for places. V1(lowest) through V3(highest)... this way, if you're bad, a freshman who rocks can take the place over the senior. the only exception is when they score the EXACT same(which is hard, because they go to the hundredths.) I placed V2 this year, as a freshman. There is a blind audition... and they made me go first!! No matter... while we wait, everyone plays Bullshit. And tells how bad they did. After auditions, we have sectionals all day. It was akward this year, because the bass clarinet came with the bassoon section and our paraperfessional. But, she's cool... she gave us leis and hawaiian bandanas to represent the section all three days. ^-^

Our school's band camp starts 2 weeks before school starts.
For the last two years in high school band camp, during lunch, the same idiot I hang out with manages to spill water, and I somehow don't notice, and I slip on it and hit my head sad EVERY YEAR SO FAR. I can imagine next year crying

Ahh... Band camp... I could compromise the oath of secrecy that was more or less forced upon me, but I don't like the idea of dying from exhaustion while trying to outrun 125 band kids.

Our days at band camp consist of this:
Wake up at 6.. but my cabin doesn't get up till 7:15... we ate breakfast in the cabin rather than trek to the eating place.
Then we had sections at 8 for an hour.. then at 9 we had group sit down practice... then after that it was field practice... along with warm ups.. Usually by then the sun had risen high enough that we arent freezing. Anyways.. we have that until about noon.. then we have lunch break.. then at 2 I think.. or maybe 1, we have sectionals again... then sit down group practice.. then more marching.
Thrusday is the Mile March.. kind of a stamina building thing.. basically walking for more than a mile with an insturment listening to the drum cadence OVER AND OVER again.
Saturday is the dance.. with the bon fire.. of course.. we aren't going to the same camp next year so we might not have it.. which makes me mad.. i wanted to cry. Oh well.
Sunday is my favorite because we don't have anything execpt group sit down practice then we perform.. then we get to go home. I love going home.. it's my favorite. Yay.

Well, the year before I came to my school the trumpet section gave one of their fellow trumpets laxatives during a meal and he didn't know it... horrible week for him xd
Senior Bon Fire: I was led by an awesome drummer by the name of Kenny Smith. He's the leprechaun of the band. He talked about indian coming out of the dark and raping him alnog with their pet bears.. it was hilarious.
Also, we have skits... the drumline did a cover on japanese paintball (from ABS.com) and it was so hilarious. Then they did a story, doing it over and over, each time was faster and faster... but there was only two ppl, EZ and Kenny, it was so hilarious. What sucks though, they are seniors and will be graduating... crying

Monday: There is usually a freshman or 20 who experience the wonders of "freshman duties" while the Seniors experience "Senior privaledges." Also, this is usually when Dr. Webster picks officers, section leaders, and drum major(s). We all start with 8-count block in the morning (8 am), then sectionals til lunch (10am to 1pm). After lunch (1pm to 2pm) there is drill reading, and at 4pm there is a final runthrough (horrible final runthrough)
Tuesday: There is a meeting for officers about what to eat for lunch, time management and other crap, and then conversions begin. Same schedule, except not much section time.
Wednesday and Thursday: These are the days when gaming and anime reach a peak in band camp. This is also where most leaders got the hang of it, and make it work out, or keep fighting.
Friday: Mostly where Dr. Webster pulls out to freshman in his fast golf cart, and almost run these kids over (poor freshman). Also, this is "bonding time" with the guard. Mostly final runthroughs, with a session time w/ Dr. Webster. Lastly, uniforms are handed out to all the band members (including hats). Also, sessions for Jazz Band are held during lunch .....just for the heck of it.
All this is for 2 glorious weeks of golf cart driving, and having the idiots run laps around the parking lot (yeah, band camp is held at a parking lot) with us maybe denting the cars that won't learn. At least we don't have to wear cummerbuns anymore! biggrin
