Making good friends ought not to be such a hard problem -- but sometimes it seems easier if there is something about the other person that helps to make things "click."
I am an older Gaian -- a woman in her early fifties -- and yet because I am knowledgeable about the current video games on the market and memes on the Webz (I have a son who is 23 who is also interested in these activities, so we discuss these topics daily -- and I love visual anime and current trends, in general) I am able to join in with discussions and jokes, with those in their teens and early twenties, while at work.
I also seem to mix well with those of my age, and older. I do have a wicked sense of humor, and I love to interact with the customers -- bringing a smile to the interaction, and making BOTH of us feel better. ^_^
I enjoy meeting new people at parties and social events. And this has meant school (university courses,) conventions, fundraisers, and workshops. On Gaia, I met a very close friend who lives in California (I live in Ontario, Canada) and with a phone call we are connected -- no matter the physical distance -- and this is what I love about the Webz: the best potential to bring people of like minds together.
Let me mention, that in high school I was painfully shy when it came to making friends with students my own age. (I tended to hang around with the teachers and remarkable adults in community theatre.) It wasn't until University that I began to shine on my own, and feel comfortable to mix with other students my own age, and have fun at parties.
Because I can be outgoing, and love to dress in costumes for special events, conventions and parades, I am also in our local media, quite often, (*laughing*) which can feel special and uncomfortable at the same time. *hugs*

Konami: Oh, I don't have an art shop. ^^ And if you want art, just ask! Actually I'm thinking of doodling up a two-shot of you and Sebastian after I get through my two-shot with Bri. You want something else?
Lucca: Yes, this person was a bright and shining exception to my usual customerbase. @_@
Thankfully after I nudged her toward her Gaia Online image-view set-up twice she realized her error and even apologized. Apparently she's improved a great deal in civilities since the last time I dealt with her. ^^
Sunny: XD Thank you but it won't be necessary. She's gotten better and as Konami says I've developed a thicker skin over the years of Modding and working for Gaia.
Alex: *neeenjas* Post-stalking does not work in PMs! XD
Ooh, sexy teacher Bri~ <3 *goes to dress up as a good little student*
Malee: *AHAHAHAHA! @ cat-lick!*
I hated school (love to learn, loathed the students and didn't do well being taught in a group) and have almost nothing but heartbreaking, gut-wrenching memories of being harassed and used and teased in school. It's almost enough for me to recommend that you wait until you're in a group with a greater mature-to-idiot ratio to look for good friends, except that I know my experience wasn't a good benchmark. *hugs* Keep an eye out and your heart hopeful! I'm sure there are plenty of good candidates there whom you just need to get to know.
*feels a similar wavelength emanating from BatChic* I was horribly shy throughout most of my school years, and it trickled over into my work life until one woman took me in hand and helped mold me into a better employee and more confident person in general. She was an amazing woman and I owe her a debt of gratitude that I can never pay off.

Meriko Alex: *neeenjas* Post-stalking does not work in PMs! XD XD I was trying to find out what shop this is you work at, at least. I don't know of any shops you might work at! Only place I didn't check was the little slime lab you made the animations for and put Dee in charge of~ Meriko Ooh, sexy teacher Bri~ <3 *goes to dress up as a good little student* A student of Bri's would likely be more naughty than anything. wink

Bri, I don't think that is an appropriate skirt length for a teacher. O__O *adjusts glasses*
Meri: Well, I want to pay you for your time and talent. whee I really like my new fairy avatar (though it does need some adjustments), and I'm selling some letters in the marketplace in order to commission some of my favorite artists. But I know you're crazy busy, so I don't want to bug you about it. sweatdrop
As for school, I moved around enough growing up that, even if I made friends, I had a hard time holding on to them over distances. Eventually I just started keeping to myself with the occasional best friend. I didn't need more than a few people to grow attached to, especially once I started making friends online (towards the end of highschool).
Vin, you seem like a fun, intelligent person, so I know you'll find a good friend soon. Maybe look around places where you'd share common interests? Like a video game club/store/hang out of some sort...perhaps an art room/club.

I'll just be in the nurse's office if any of the students need treatment after Bri's Special Punishment. ninja
...those school uniforms ARE super cute. I think I'll wait until they decrease in price a bit before I pick one up. I'm really excited about the homeroom item, though. Book shelves! *A*

Thank you all for your support. I'm trying at the moment, but the room I'm in is full of full on video game people. More so then I will ever be. (Super smash all the time.) Its a little difficult because its really a commuter college, so people aren't there for long. And I live about 45 minutes away, so I can't stay on campus too long. But I am trying. I'm thinking about rushing a sorority just because I know I'd make friends there. I don't know what clubs are on campus yet, none have really been advertised. I think I'm also one of 5 girls in the room... and the only single one. XD
Anyway, time for homework!
