my school has 21 and still counting. from what I hear, the band is adding another 100 something students from intermediate band....I didnt even know they ha dover 100 people. Well, right now, the band number is 154, so we trumpets are pretty much outnumbered.

Remember how I said we have three trumpets? Well the bad one moved and we have two now. What sucks is we may not go to contest because of the trumpet's low numbers. Evidentally me and Britt can't take a breath if we end up going.

Know how many of those were trumpets? TWO. 'Nuff said.

Two isn't all that bad. If you use enough air, then you'll be heard. Along with regular practicing, you could do breathing exercises.

Well, it turned out not to be a huge problem (we got through it), but the real issue with only having two trumpets is that pieces tend to be written with three trumpet parts. 3nodding

-jumps in on conversation- It's not really going to be a problem for my marching band next year, people wise. We're going to have 8 returning members and 2 new freshmen. Symphonic band, on the other hand, is looking at having only three trumpet players next year, which isn't a very good thing, considering 1/2 the songs we play have 2 cornet parts and then 2 or 3 trumpet parts.
As for how many trumpets I own, right now I just have a Jupiter I bought from Marshall Music in 8th grade. This June I'm going down to WWBW in Indiana to try out some new horns, though. =)

As for me, I still have one, my beginners...I'd like to have one for marching and one for band like my sister (flute), but no...I guess I'll have to save up or wish really really hard by my next birthday....oh yeah, mb trumpets is gonna be small next year. 2 seniors leaving, i think 2 in general leaving, which leaves about 4, the # last year they had...but hopefully more ppl will join upcoming year biggrin

I am usually a clarinetist, but next year, I am playing the trumpet. We are losing about half of our GOOD trumpet players to moving or graduating. I am terrified.
But I own half a trumpet. I play the Pocket trumpet. I call it my half trumpet.

But I own half a trumpet. I play the Pocket trumpet. I call it my half trumpet. don't worry about playing trumpet in all honesty. Just practice when you can and use the tuning slide until you can get your pitch correct. Just know that with a brass instrument you need to be more firm with your lips than you do with you clarinet. We have so many trumpets it makes me sick. I wanna kick some of them because they shouldn't be in band. Our band director makes us do breathing gym every morning before we play. It kind of helps I guess. xd

Our band has nine trumpets.
6 of us are in All-State Band and All-State Jazz Band.
2 of us are ranked in the top 20 nationally.

xd that's insane there [Bongo Shack] but yeah playing another instrument can really help your range. My range royally sucks and I know it's because I don't practice as much as I should BUT if you play a low brass instrument, it helps a lot because you're working more muscles areound your mouth than just a few.
