Cyrus the Elder 17 and 18+? eek I'm so glad I live in Australia, where movies with full-frontal nudity and sex scenes are lucky to go as high as 15+ 3nodding Yeah, in the U.S., our culture (thank you Comstock, Webster, and the Women's Christian Temperance Union) developed a fear of the way humans are made, but happily endorsed the way we are unmade. I'd love to blame the Puritans, but truth be told, they had little real effect on the laws and governance that have evolved into the modern age. confused Thank you, Taliah. Statistics not your favourite suit then, Patch? Is it more towards the raw number-play, or analysis?

I have a stats mid-term tomorrow! gonk
I hate stats, but I heard from a person who took the mid-term today (since it's different between the different tutorial groups) that they have all the formulas on the back.
Thank gods. gonk

Thank gods. gonk I love it when teachers do that. It never made much sense to me that my ability to solve the problem comes second to my ability to memorize things. I nearly failed a Calculus test once when I couldn't remember the integral of Cos(x). I knew how to reduce the rest of the problem, but not remembering that one thing cost me 10 points burning_eyes

Thank god for my university professor for being nice!

Statistics are evil. The only reason I passed my Stats class at the University is because my mom died and my professor took pity on me. Our final exam was partially open book and I still couldn't get right. gonk

I really wish people would stop asking me if I'm drinking for St. Patty's Day. Greaaaat question to ask someone who nearly went down the alcoholic route (or did depending on who you ask).
Besides, is the American version of this holiday even something I really ought to be celebrating? Or is this just more culture rape intertwined into American culture disguised as valid celebration? I'm betting it wasn't meant to be "Get obscenely drunk on green beer" day.

There's a reason I'm not wearing green, or orange.

I drank today, but that was because I had the opportunity to.
A shot of awful El Salvadorean liquor and a shot of some vodka cooler.
And now I'm studying. Expect my head isn't in study mood. xD

Ever since I read something about the "snakes" being Pagans, I've been turned off to the whole St. Patrick's day thing, and the way most Americans celebrate it doesn't help either. I usually make a point of making sure the kiddos have green on, just so they don't get pinched at school, but otherwise (if I do anything at all) - I treat it as a day to celebrate the tiny bit of Irish heritage that I have.

St. Patrick's Day is little more than an excuse to go drinking, with some Irish "culture" thrown in. I wear green for that day, but it's also my favorite color... so it's nothing more special I do any other day. As such, I normally wish people this : Happy Irish Culture (read: Alcohol) "Appreciation" Day.
On another note, my World Civ class had to pick either a famous person or event in the time period we have covered in the class. I picked Hippocrates. 3-4 minutes is not adequate to describe him and his practices sad .
BUT, I was very tempted to shout at the girl who made the mistake of saying Artemis had a twin sister named Apollo. *grumble*
Also, someone did a presentation on Gnosticism. Does anyone know a good source to look further into this?

For as long as I live, I will never understand this apparent need to have an excuse, of all things, to drink confused

Fiddlers Green Statistics not your favourite suit then, Patch? Is it more towards the raw number-play, or analysis? Raw numbers FTW. Algebra FTW! This is maths, I don't want any flouncy crap. wink One of the questions was about standard deviation, but the results were unspecific and I had no idea how I was supposed to get a mean. confused

Eugh... I don't like this whole chase the pagans out thing. That and the drinking does not appeal.

Drinking appeals, but most of the cheap stuff tastes gross. That and most beers taste gross.
And so our residence had our community dinner, themed "Go Green". It wouldn't have anything to do with St. Patricks Day (since we the Living Learning Community for Environment), except there were lots of clovers and shamrocks. >...>
But then again, it was put on by the residence's Board of Governors and seeing one of my current and two of past professors serving us was entertaining.
Though my current one told me he'd trip me, by accident of course, if I didn't tie my shoelaces. rofl
