Ulrich nodded. "Outside," he replied. "Waiting for you, I believe."

Gion smiled and signed his thanks, then turned and headed outside.
It was very early, the sun was still in the process of rising above the horizon, and much of the valley was in shadows. But itw as beautiful, and Gion smiled widely at it. He 'showed' the sight to Daemon.

Ah.... a lovely sight.
Daemon murmured taking it in, it was like the shadows were being slowly chased away.

Serenity was at the far end of the porch, sitting with her back against the wall, her legs dangling over the side, appearing relaxed. In truth, she was worrying about Gion leaving, but she refused to show it. She knew how old he was, despite his appearance, and she had confidence in his abilities.
She heard a step behind her on the porch and turned her head to see Gion, all ready to go. She got to her feet slowly and headed over to him - he didn't seem to be looking in her direction, and she wondered if he would notice her before she got there.

It is, Gion agreed, and turned to look for his mother.
To his surprise, she was already standing right next to him. He smiled at her, then reached out and threw his arms around her waist in a tight hug. Then he took a step back and signed, Goodbye, Mother. I'm going to miss you.
Cliche, yes. But honest.

Serenity smiled and leaned forward to kiss Gion's forehead.
"You make sure you take care of yourself," she instructed him seriously. "Make sure you eat enough, drink enough, and get enough rest. Daemon can watch for you so you can sleep, and I know there's enough food in your bag to last you months - so make sure you eat it."
She cupped his chin in her hands. "Be careful," she murmured.

Gion nodded and gave her the thumbs up, then gave her a quick half-hug and stepped off the porch.
As he started towards the trees, he felt a feeling of overpowering independence rushing through him. It felt good ...

Off another adventure.
Daemon couldn't help but chuckle at the idea, well in his head anyhow. It was an amazing thing, it was almost like watching someone grow mentally in a way.

Gion grinned despite his resolve to remain serious about the entire matter.
Indeed we are, he agreed, nodding inwardly. And since it's spring now, we won't have the troubles that we had when we first started out ... I guess since we found Mother so quickly last time, this really is like the first time we're going out on our own.
His smile grew wider. And for once I don't feel like a child ... who has to be reminded of everything ... I actually feel like a man, like I can really handle this.
He paused. If that makes any sense.

Of course it does.
Daemon replied, from the fight it took to let them leave on this trip, at least from Elrohir and the grandmother's side, he could understand that feeling.
It's time to fly now isn't it?

Gion chuckled silently at Daemon's comment, knowing it was metaphorical, but he couldn't help but see his sister at that moment in his mind's eye, when he had seen her take on the form of a phoenix and take flight ...
And time to see where the wind will take us, he replied cheerfully. You suggested Chansond'eau, didn't you? To see my aunt.

Well yes... since there's family there... it'll be easy first, before doing the hard part which you wanted to go up North yes?
Daemon asked curiously, since he didn't know what was up there compared to down here or anywhere for that matter.
It's also good to do a bit of research before hand... provided it isn't too much outdated.

No one knows much about the Northland, Gion replied seriously, his eyes focused on what was in front of him. Very few have gone there and returned ... whether it's animals or another race that live there, no one has reported; all that's known is that it's dangerous.
He paused.
Although, that is where the dwarfs were relocated to after the war, he added thoughtfully. So there will be an elven presence to keep them under control ... Westland or Southland elves, I can't say.
He grinned. I can't wait to check it out.

Hmm.... someone should write about it.
Daemon replied thoughtfully.
In case anyone else there goes up there, but it means you might be able to see something others haven't yet. Even with people up there now, they're more focused on settling in and surviving rather than exploring.

I've never seen a map of it either, Gion replied slowly, his mind whirling. I've got paper and ink and stuff ... maybe, if all goes well, I should try mapping it ...
He mulled over the matter, hopping over a fallen log.
