I am having the worst day. eek / cry

Elaborate.

Let's see if it beats the hell out of Anthony Weiner's.
All you need to do is move the 's to Anthony and it's a lulzy statement.
I can't believe that the only member of Congress with the last name Weiner was involved in a sex scandal. rofl That is just too good to be true.

EDIT: @Odin: You have to admit it's just too perfect.

I ain't saying it's not perfect. I just think guy's been given enough s**t.
I just know something about his crotch and picture sending. Aside from that I don't even know the situation. Normally when I hear "guy" and "crotch", I'm usually the first one there. But it was lulzy.

Keep in mind this isn't the whole story:

Congressman sends photo of him having a boner (in his boxer briefs) to a 21-year old woman on Twitter.

Media get wind of it. Congressman lies about it at first, but then comes clean and admits to having sent "lewd" photos to six women over a three-year period. He claims to have never actually touched any of the women.

Democrats consider him a liability for getting Obama re-elected or another Democrat into office. They want him to resign so they don't look bad.

Congressman apologizes for his actions many times, but nobody really cares because at this point the media and Republican blow-hards are out for blood.

Congressman announces his resignation today. New sources talk all ******** day long about it and I'm driving my courier route listening to this because 90.7 FM Sacramento is the only radio station that comes in fine and the CD player of the laboratory truck doesn't work so I was unable to listen to George Carlin's You Are All Diseased, the entirety of which is pure gold by the way.

Keep in mind, the man wasn't really doing anything illegal. He was sending sexting messages to consenting women of legal age on his own time, in his own private life, not really hurting anybody except his wife and even then she forgave him, and he wasn't using any taxpayer's dollars to do it. He was just minding his own ******** business and even when he was owning up to his mistakes, people kept slandering him.

What would be a better cut off age than 18? I don't care for that being the magic number in situations but what would be better?
There isn't one, hence my maturity thing. I am far more mature than several people I know and there are people out there way older than I who are far less mature. 18 just seems to be the happy medium with College and "being an adult" <--- which people abuse and is just stupid.

At lease alcohol is 21. But then again a lot of kids at my school drink, so there isn't anything you can do. People will abuse it either way. If they are stupid then they will abuse it, and people will abuse it if they feel that they can accept the rules.
I just basically agree with you here.
I like how you were just like, "K". It made me lol more than *inquisitive look*

How about no magic number? If the government has to get involved at all, how about a standardized psychological evaluation, a 'test' process similar to getting a license? I've met 38-year-olds who still act like 5-year-olds, as well as 12-year-olds more responsible and mature than many of the adults I know, so it's not really fair to give everyone a generalized cutoff based on age. In fact, it's not fair at all.

Haha yeah yer right. In fact, I think the government should just let people run around doing whatever they want. Who cares? It's their own business. Robbing stores? Winning!! Teenage pregnancy!? WINNING! Drunk Driving? ********. After all, it's their business, not the Government's.
razz

Nobutsrsly, they should UP the age to at least 20-21, not take away the magic number completely. There actually is a HUGE difference in brain-function between 17 and 19, simply because it's still maturing. The part of the human brain that handles decision-making skills isn't fully finished developing until around age 23-25. When you've only got about a 6-year range, 1 year makes a big difference.
Now obviously there are extreme cases in either direction age-wise, but none of those are (or should affect) the standard. When you're 38 and making 5-year old mistakes, you're still accountable for those mistakes as a 38 year old. Not the governments fault? Who cares, it's his business. Mature 12 year olds will get all the respect they're due if they behave well, but their mistakes will be treated like 12 year old mistakes.

Obviously, Life isn't always fair. Remember where these laws came from in the first place. They were implemented to keep everybody safe, healthy, and out of troubles like Teenage Pregnancy.
There was a time when Teenage Pregnancy didn't happen all that often. Society had an overall higher moral standard that is seriously lacking in modern culture, clearly....
Nowadays, if there WERE no cut-off age, teen moms could say, "Well it's totally legal, I was allowed to make my own decisions, but dammit this just isn't fair!", whereas the way we got it, it becomes, "Well, it was a bad idea anyway, but the Law gave me one more good reason not to do it...."
Believe it or not, Lawmakers are not just out to get people; I mean, we wouldn't have these laws if they weren't problems at some point. There's a reason for every rule, and I think it'd be better to appreciate the Good that the Government is doing, instead of bitching about how 'unfair' it is. Speed limits are there for a reason, MIP laws are there for a reason, and so is the Age of Consent.

As far as I'm concerned, people who drive the speed limits need to stay in the right lane.

Ah, okay. So he did nothing wrong? Sounds about right.

The only thing is that he holds a public position that he was elected into. He is supposed to be a decent guy and uphold all these expectations. While I agree that he did nothing wrong, it got out and since it was linked to him, that is all he can be associated with for the rest of his public career.

Weiner is associated with his "scandal" and that's all you'll know him to be. I haven't heard of him otherwise. Not much for the plus side, I don't know of any good he did for his community. I know him for his so called scandal and how the public views him.

too long to quote
I still think it would be better to have them prove they are able to make their own decisions than just get a number that says they can; they don't just let 16 year olds on the road without first making sure they know how to drive. In this society, turning 18 is a big deal because it means you have access to new freedoms, and whether or not you can handle them is never called into question. This often leads to people going nuts and abusing them on their age-of-majority birthday simply because they can, not even because they genuinely want to. People who have never had any interest in drinking go out and get shitfaced on their 21st (or 19th here), just because now they suddenly can; I've seen people go overboard and get alcohol poisoning from celebrating that they're finally allowed to drink. I do not agree that 'ok you're ___ go nuts' is the best way to go about determining whether an individual is mature or not; I think that in some cases, it even encourages irresponsible use of these privileges.

I think a 17-year-old girl who sends n***s of herself to her boyfriend should at least be able to appeal something that will rule her as a sex offender for life with a psychological evaluation that deems her to be operating on a mature level. Child pornography charges are serious s**t in this society, and it's a really severe cross to have to bear for the rest of your life just for sending out n***s. Of yourself. Of your ******** self.

And don't get me started on the "good" the government is doing, or lack thereof. lol We'll be here for days.

Yeah, you're right...but how do you test people to see whether they're responsible enough to have Sex? What does it mean to be "sexually responsible"? lol Can't do a test-drive to see how good you are, and that wouldn't stop people from Having sex before whatever age regardless....
But yeah you're right, as far as alcohol and stuff goes, people aren't too smart. But people will do stupid things no matter WHAT the government does, eh? At least when they wait 'til that age nobody can say it was the Government's fault. At that point, it becomes a mark on one's own social circles of influence, and their consequences, while technically legal, may hit closer to home in the long run.....

Or maybe that girl shouldn't be sending nude photos of herself to other people. Child Pornogrophy is serious for a reason, and if a 14 year old is doing it, who's to say she'll stop once she turns 18? I mean that may sound like an extreme, but like....say you were trying to hire a babysitter who's sent her nude photos to however many people (who obviously weren't too trustworthy, since the police got a hold of it xD), than you can infer that she's the kind of person who is very concerned with sex and sexuality, and that influence could potentially affect the way she interacts with the kids. It's a liability, especially in a country where Child-Pornography is taken so seriously.
Gurl, we have it GOOD. You know there are parts of the world where you can get your tongue cut out for leaving gum on the street? Guess what happens; nobody leaves gum on the street. Those kinds of consequences are definitely considered "unfair" by our standards, but if that's the law people will abide by it.
A principle that furthers my point saying the government should restrict further, not loosen up the rules to accommodate.

lol Trust me, I'm fully aware of just how wonderful the American Government is (maybe it's different in canadia?), but it is what it is, and it's a helluvalot better than Most places around the globe. At least you have the freedom to bash it, which is not something anybody should take for granted.
