The wolf curled up on the ground around Valzar's feet. Thanks, but I don't think so. Not unless you can turn me into a mortal or be my lifemate. She laughed nervously. I don't think you can do either of those. She looked up at him with through the eyes of the wolf and nuzzled his feet in thanks.

The wolf let out a small wimper. You're right. It's not something I can hide from. My lifemate will be able to find me no matter where you put me.

Valzar gently touched his nose to her's, Maybe you should approach the situation differently? It might not be so horrible... Although in the deepest parts of his own mind he didn't like the idea of some male sweeping into Callista's life and taking her away.

You're right. It might not be terrible. It could be worse. What if he insists that I move away into the mountains and never come back down into the valleys again... The wolf raised its head and let out a sad mornful cry.

She snuggled into him, fitting perfectly even as a wolf. I have to be prepared for the worst. I do hope for the best though. I just don't see myself being happy if I can't be around my friends and family. And when my lifemate does claim me, I won't be able to see you anymore. He'll be jealous of the friendship you and I have, so I'll have to give you up too.

Oh... he frowned not liking the sound of that at all. He didn't have many friends but he liked being around Callista.

I can't be happy if I never get to see you again. You're one of the only non Carpathian friends I have. Even the Carpathian ones don't understand me. She slowly shifted back beside him, still snuggled up against his side.

Callista shook her head. "He'll mind. It's every Carpathain male's nature to be protective and jealous of any men who get attention from their lifemate. If I sneak and try to see you, he'll know and come to hurt you. And I know you'll say you can protect yourself, but he won't have to touch you to hurt you. I don't want that to happen, I couldn't stand it when the vampire attacked you. I don't know what I would do if my lifemate did."
