I only go into towns for 3 reasons:
1.) I am collecting cans for that hat item.
2.) There is a chance to get giftboxes (I've gotten 3 already from towns alone)
3.) Any stray trash I collect can go towards the guild biggrin

I go fishing for the cans but I haven't been fishing a lot now because gotten so lazy omg =_=
Your lucky, I never get giftboxes from towns...I don't even know how it's supposed to look like lol

I just figured I'd go for the can hat because everyone else is XD If I get it then people will be like "Woah. You've got it!"
So Far I have 1014 cans... so I'm doing alright.
I got a pink giftbox from towns that had a nitemare headband inside biggrin The giftboxes in towns look the same as the regular random event --- they fly around the screen biggrin
