All right then, Gion grinned. I'll let Mother and Ulani and Ulrich know, and I'm sure we can leave first thing tomorrow morning. Or whenever we're ready.
He headed towards the bedroom he had claimed for the winter and stretched out on the bed.
Think Mother will come with? he asked Daemon thoughtfully. Or would it be too dangerous for her to go where there are other elves?

Probably too dangerous for her to go, she has already express worries about your safty showing you this far.
Daemon replied seriously and with worry.
They're not just striking out at your mother, they are striking out at your family as well.

Yeah, well, my brothers could use a wakeup call, Gion thought sourly, turning onto his side and glaring out the window at the blackness outside. Maybe not quite that drastic, but a wakeup call nonetheless. Same as the men who are doing this to us.

Gion shrugged, though he knew Daemon would neither see nor feel the movement.
Perhaps.
He got to his feet and headed off to find Serenity and the others.

Daemon knew that Gion wasn't so hopeful, but well.... there were always changes on the wind. Besides if he wasn't a bit optmistic he would have gone crazy by now wouldn't he?

Ulrich and Ulani were nowhere to be found, but Gion found Serenity sitting on the front porch that he had vacated only minutes before.
He sat down to join her, then tapped her on the shoulder to get her attention and signed, I'm leaving in the morning.

Serenity blinked. "So soon?" she asked, stunned. "Are you sure?"
It was true, he had been there for twelve weeks, but it still seemed so short a time to her. After all, those twelve weeks were all she had seen of her son since her departure twelve years ago now.

Gion nodded certainly.
I don't know if you want to come with or not, but I think it's time, he signed apologetically. It's been nice, being here, and I will come back ... but I left Tor Karad to travel, and that's what I want to do. Daemon and I want to travel all the Four Lands, and that won't happen unless we get going.

Serenity nodded slowly. "I understand," she murmured. She reached out to put her hand on his shoulder, then touched his cheek lovingly. "As much as I would love to go with you ... you do understand that I can't, right?"
She looked at him with love-filled eyes.

Gion smiled softly and nodded. Of course he understood. And in a way that he didn't want to explain, he was glad she wasn't coming. He wanted to do this alone ... with Daemon. To prove to others that he could. That he wasn't weak. That his height meant nothing.
But he didn't want to tell his mother that, in case she got the wrong impression.
I'm going to bed right now, then, he signed to her. So that I'm well-rested in the morning.

"I'll be up to see you off then," she murmured. "And I"ll have Ulani fill your pack with food tonight." She let him go and sat back, smiling at him. "Good night."

Daemon asked, a bit confused, after all he was sure Serenity would understand that they wanted to leave.

Gion shrugged and headed into his room.
To be honest, I wasn't sure what to expect, he admitted. I mean, basically I've been babysat all winter, and I'm just so used to not being allowed to make my own choices in the matter of things like that ... Elrohir especially would never let me do anything. It's just strange to be allowed to do what I want to do for once.
