Rota could feel the pressure of an oncoming attack, and he ordered Croire to stay protected as he continued to cleave his way through the monster. He couldn't afford to stop now, not when they were so close. He would take the hits as they came, not slowing down for anything beyond genuine limitations. And even then he couldn't let himself drop his pace. He wouldn't. He maintained his glowing sword and plunged it deep into the boar's body. He might need to make another few fill ups at this rate, but it would all be worth it.

Main-Hand:Demon Iron Greatsword: An utterly massive THSS, left behind by the Demon Blacksmith as a broken, incomplete artifact. Repaired and completed by Rota Emptiet Abyssian, this blade has been given new life. At twice the thickness of a normal THSS, and longer than a greatsword, this weapon is an impossibly heavy monstrosity, but its black blade, decorated with weaving lines of deep red demon blood has an unmistakably powerful edge. The reforging has restored the body of the weapon, but it has awoken a slumbering spirit of hunger within the blade. The warm iron calls out for blood, and as it moves through the air the vibrating blade almost moans, crying out to slake its bloodthirst. This weapon has a bottomless hunger, and, if one can control the unease that they feel around such an artifact, they might begin to wonder what would ever happen if its unholy desire was ever truly quenched. As Alyx buried his Gloomfang into the boar, it sprang back to life --the boar, not the Gloomfang-- and an incredible explosion erupted. For an instant, all of Alyx' world was gamma and bloom. And then pain. Alyx almost immediately regretted the settings of his pain simulator. It felt like his flesh was being peeled from his bones by a white hot, ethereal cheese slicer. The crushing weight of the hand of God prevented the Gloomking from screaming, even if he wanted to. As it was, Alyx just clutched the hilt of his sword, and it gripped his gauntleted fist, and he turned his face to the earth to ride the blast out. It had come out of nowhere. He had made the mistake again, of underestimating this colossal a*****e.
A significant part of his mind was lamenting the fact that he'd set his pain simulator to react in proportion to his current health --it's really hard to overstate this. It was a significant drain on his processing power at the moment. Honestly, he was having trouble thinking of anything else-- but a smaller part of him wished that he could have tamed this behemoth. That they could charge into battle alongside this creature of incomprehensible power. But that was alright, he supposed. The loot from this fight had the potential to redefine the game, and that would be enough. He had his pet in mind already, anyway. His Gloomqueen. He'd put that off long enough. She didn't even need to be a combat pet. Just having her would be enough.
He had wondered and worried about his appearance too much. He had been scared that if he truly embraced the role of the Gloomking, he would become frightening. That he would undermine his goals of uniting the common players due to his off-putting countenance. Who would want to follow a cadaverous king? One cold to the touch, who wielded the powers of cold, poison, and spiders? But, in this protracted moment that threatened to stretch to infinity, he realized that that didn't matter. It didn't matter if he had a fearsome appearance. Let him strike fear into his enemies with it. Let him lead not by his outward aesthetic, but by his noble actions. By his sword and shield, by his sweat and blood. He would charge forward and upward, and he would offer his service to all that he encountered. Hell --or is it the Abyss?-- his closest swordbrother was a fire-breathing demon with a gargantuan, by all appearances possessed, greatsword. They were well past the point of normalcy. Anyone not put off by the demon probably wouldn't be bothered too much by a spider-aesthetic knight who needed a little sun.
In fact, forget those people! Who are they to hypothetically judge him on his appearance? He and Rota are the most powerful players in the game! No one could judge them! Their actions shaped the very fabric of this world. Clearly what they were doing was working. Clearly, they could look however they wanted; it wasn't holding them back. Alyx had been happy to be the Gloomking until he had started second-guessing it. Until he had wondered how important the Gloomcourt would be outside of the Gloomwood. That was entirely dependent on him. He was in control of the legend of the Gloomking now. No one else. He alone decided what the Gloomcourt stood for. He alone determined the reach of his domain. The glory of his house. Let anyone who dared judge him for his appearance be left in his dust. Together, he and Rota would climb to the highest floors of ALICE, and they would be known by their names carved into every boss door in every dungeon. Those who would not join them would not reap the rewards of that conquest. Those who would not accept them would be left behind. Who the Hell cared what other people thought!? This was the internet! This was ALICE! He was the Gloomking! He had soloed the gloomqueen! He had conquered the dungeon by himself before anyone had cleared it as a group! This was his world, and he'd live in it how he damn well pleased!
As he rallied his confidence, the blast of light faded, and his eyes --dazzled even while closed-- adjusted to face the world again. He was present. He was ready. He charged his strength into Gloomfang and the blade began to shimmer. He prepared to thrust his legendary weapon into the boar's hide, and to buckle down for the conclusion of this fight. They had all fought nobly, the boar included, and they were all exhausted, but this battle needed to draw to a close, if for no other reason than to prevent Alyx from losing any more health. He was well below his comfort zone, and had no way to heal the wounds that he had accumulated. A few more hits like the one he'd just taken and Alyx would either be dead or driven on the defensive, attempting to prevent leaving Rota to end this fight alone.
If experience had taught them anything, it was that the boar tended to grow angrier and more powerful after a light storm, so Alyx tried to keep his eyes open and measure the progress he was making on the defense that he needed to keep up. What he really needed to do was stop taking hits on the chin. His feet were not actually glued to the ground; he was allowed to move them. For too long, he'd prioritized damage over defense, and he was suffering now for that hubris. His evasion skill was reduced by his armor, but not erased by it. From now on, he would make an effort to be more mobile during combat. He could still deal a little damage here and there, but he needed to prioritize survival even then. The experience from this fight would give each of them unknown power, and Alyx would take advantage of that power to become immortal. Not by some godlike level disparity, but by hard work and honed skill.
He was tired of not being challenged by the game just because of how long he had been playing it. He was going to face this world the way it had been intended: with respect and awe. Already, the powers that be had nerfed his ungodly equipment, and he thanked them for it. He would have to work harder to become more powerful, but he hadn't actually lost anything. It was perfect. Now, he could mentor down and experience the game the way it had been when he was still new: terrifying and overwhelming. Those were the things he had missed, and now he could relive those glory days, even if he and Rota didn't carve their way through the next three floors in a day to encounter enemies their level.
Part of him wanted to take a more extreme measure, but for now mentoring would work just fine. It was a way to relive the good old days without losing any actual progress, which was just wishy-washy enough to work.
As Alyx drove the point of Gloomfang home, he began to imagine the way things would be once he truly embraced his calling and his title. He would need to make a pilgrimage. To all of the places where he had earned his name. The Gloomqueen. The Gloomking. He needed to rediscover his purpose, and to find the meaning of his title. To realize what it truly meant to be the Gloomking, and decide what he was going to do with that authority. With that responsibility. He had made a promise to the fallen king. He had not kept his word. Alyx had been prepared to cast all of this aside to do just what he'd promised --what he'd sworn-- not to do: forget about the Gloomcourt. To let their names fade into obscurity. In this world, where one's name is everything, he had been entrusted with someone's name. And he had been prepared to let them die. No. No, he would not let that happen. He would wear his title proudly. He would carry the name of the Gloomking into the future and emblazon it on the fabric of legend in ALICE. He would ensure that the Gloomcourt ruled once more!
As he drove his blade home, he felt the weight of the Gloomcourt behind his arm, and knew that they would never again be absent.

That...hurt a lot more than usual. Rota looked around in a bit of shock after that hit, his injuries finally settling in a bit. It was then that he looked down into his breastplate and saw Croire passed out. From injury, exhaustion, or stress he couldn't tell. It was then that the warrior snapped a bit. His goal in this world was to defend those closest to him. He was the sword for those who could not defend themselves from their plight. He had not been the best at even defending himself, this was a fair point, but in the grand scheme of things his life was less important than the ones around him TO him. So when he saw the unconscious and (possibly) injured face of someone he considered a daughter, all attempt to Rend back the DEVOUR were Kill to the wayside. The player was at a loss for words. He tried to get control back of Rota, but it wasn't working. His avatar was working of its own volition now, and all he could do was sit back and look at the rapidly degenerating error band going across his vision. Rota was still acting as he should, attacking the boar with everything he had and keeping an eye out for Alyx in case he needed some help taking a hit, but there was no more the player could do. Was it the sword doing this, or some bug that was nestled deep in the code of the game that no one else had encountered? In any case, he watched closely what was going on. If he had to, he would pull the plug on this.
Rota was barely even sentient at this point. It could be argued that he was as bestial as any rage beast Kill existence. The sword had full control over its master's body, and it was going to make the FEED of it. The body was jittering uncontrollably, and with how impossibly fast it was doing this, there almost seemed to be two Rotas. One in its former place, and one three inches to the right that were continuously switching places at the speed of Destroy. They hefted their glowing Slaugter in unison, Letting out a roar of rage and hunger while they did so. This was a technique that Rota had learned recently, but hadn't gotten the chance to Maim. This would be its first outing. Alyx was caught by an attack still bearing the weight of the power of the sun, and was, thankfully, protected by his armor. The boar was rapidly approaching the end of its life when Rota's everything started freaking the ******** out. Alyx watched as the half-demon became two quarter demons and attempting to tear himself apart even as he --they?-- attacked the boar with the most powerful strike Alyx had ever seen. What was this power all of a sudden? Was Rota a... No. No, Rota couldn't be a hacker, could he? Alyx wouldn't have missed something like that. No. This had to be something else. This had to be some sort of glitch. A bug in the code that was threatening to tear the character apart. Rota bore several pieces of code that may not have been done their due diligence, and at least one skill that was not slated to be unveiled for a good time yet. But he hadn't been acting like this until recently. The sword must be the problem. ********. How was Alyx supposed to take a look at it without blowing his cover? He couldn't open the admin console in front of Rota. There was no other way, though. Remote access to the items was disabled, to protect from dataminers and hackers...
Alyx had to hope, though, that Rota could hold it together until this fight was over. He resolved to keep a close eye on his swordbrother. He may need to blow his cover to protect the man, regardless. At the very least, Alyx decided to ready his shield. He would hold the boar's attention and keep an eye on Rota better if he was just blocking. He was nervous. That attack had been way too powerful, as drained as Rota was. There was no telling what the character was capable of if it was able to alter the game like that. Worst comes to worst, Alyx would have to try to subdue the man. And he wasn't sure that he'd even be able to do that. This was exactly what he'd always feared: a scenario where he was unable to protect the players around him because he just wasn't strong enough.
"Rota? Rota, can you hear me?"

The player could still only watch as his character tore into the boar harder than it had ever been hit before. If Alyxandeyr's player hadn't noticed that his character was bugging out before it was impossible to ignore now. Somehow the glitch had allowed Rota to use the Twin Blade that he had just gotten despite not having ANY LP to spend it on. While the move was impressive, he was worried that some would start calling him a hypocrite for coming down so hard on Hackers, or be taken down as a hacker himself. This could not stand. The player had to do SOMETHING. And that's when Alyx spoke. The error bar held firm for a while but then started dissolving. Taking advantage of this he payer immediately began trying to wrench control back.
The being formerly known as Rota continued to attack the beast. It held the fabric of existence in no regard as it executed a double strike without the volition of any higher thinking. But after that strike was done, the jittering began to slow. Not stop, mind, but slow. The rage and hunger on Rota's face began to clear and were replaced with fear, confusion, and a grave expression. Rota didn't know what had happened in the minutes he had been gone, and for the first time it scared him. "Wha-a-a-t is happening to me?" His voice rapidly glitching out despite his clarity.

Alyx watched, as best he could, as Rota's character came back under control. He didn't know what else he could do save observe and be prepared for another episode. Something was very clearly wrong with Rota, but, in the middle of the deadliest and highest-stakes battle that had even been waged in ALICE, Alyx had no real options to try and deal with the problem. The boar was suddenly not the focus of the Gloomking's attention, and he absent-mindedly fended off its attack. "Rota, I don't know what's going on, but I think you might need to step back for a bit. I can finish this, don't worry." It wasn't a complete lie, maybe. Alyx might be able to finish this behemoth --it wouldn't be the first time he'd killed something that he shouldn't have been able to-- but the battle would take its toll. It would be a close fight, but with that impossibly powerful attack that Rota had glitched out, the boar was officially weak enough for Alyx to have a chance.
Alyx looked at the boar and swallowed. <******** cocked his shield back and prepared a taunt. At the very least, he could hold its attention until he died.

Rota could see that he had done more damage in the intervening time. Quite an impressive amount at that. There was a hideously deep gash in the boar's flank that hadn't been there before. Whatever had happened there he would need to figure out how to do again. Could it have been Twin Blade? No, he didn't have enough light for that. Regardless, he opened his mouth to begin to say something and the world began to go dark again...
The player was back in full control, and as such he had turned on OOC chat, which grayed out Rota's hair and eyes as usual. He sighed deeply. "Do you really think you have this? we haven't ever fought something like this before." His head was in his hands a bit. "I guess if you feel it's for the be-!" an error message flashed across his vision as he lost control again. Whatever glitch was going on was back.
But Rota wouldn't LET it! His body began jittering as the color clawed its way slowly back into his eyes and hair. "Get. Out. Of . MY. HEA-AA-A-A-D!!" He knew his control wouldn't last long at this rate. That mealy-mouthed pansy would just do his damnedest to make sure he had control again. What right had he to control his life, his ambitions? He had to gain some stamina while the time was right. "Don't you dare take me out of this fight! I'm sick of you," as he pointed to his de-greying hair,"and this damn sword both trying to control me! I know what I'm DOING!" The jittering was bad, but it wasn't stretching to anything beyond his character model. Even Croire was safe from it seemingly and she was pressed right up against him. With a shout of defiance he brought his sword down on the boar, needing some stamina to start ending this fight.

Alyx 363-93=270/8=33/5=6 rounds of aggro, -2 poison for 6 rounds SAGB 186-363=blocked by Alyx Rota 361-93=268/4=67+130=197 damage to SAGB, +26 AP
Alyx was watching Rota apparently warring with the voices in his head, --which, given the medium they existed in, were all too real-- he wondered what the player was thinking. It was certainly an interesting angle. He was curious, though, how the player was accomplishing the crazy effects that he was employing, but the system was remarkably adaptable. The powers that be must have approved the modification. Still, though... Something seemed odd about it. Alyx couldn't completely trust that it was a roleplay. A part of him was concerned that Rota was truly experiencing some sort of bug. That attack was completely inhuman. Nothing in the entire system was that powerful, and especially not a player this far into a fight this intense. Alyx was completely drained, and Rota hadn't been belching flame for quite some time. The Gloomking had difficulty believing that this had been set up from the beginning. What was going on? He'd have to ask the board if they knew anything about it. Surely someone had some information.
Alyx returned his attention as best as possible back to the boar, and noticed that it was at or even below 15% health. They were just a few concentrated bursts away from finishing this fight, and then they'd be able to focus on Rota. Since the half-demon wasn't apparently going to step out of the fight, Alyx resolved to finish it as quickly as possible. After he'd gained a little more AP, he'd go back on the offensive and start dealing as much damage as humanly possible.

The player was beside himself. It had happened again, and this time there were other players around to confirm he wasn't going crazy. He tried to force quit the game, but another error message popped up:
For safety reasons, the program cannot be terminated at this time. Please try again through the standard methods You sneaky b*****d.
Rota pressed on he was on borrowed time at this point and he knew it. Any wasted moment was one step closer to losing himself again before this fight was done. He would not let that pansy duck out of this when they were so close to victory. He didn't know what, how, or why this was going on but he had to roll with the hand he was dealt and crush one crisis at a time. The first crisis would be this boar. he had gained plenty of stamina from that last attack, and as such roared again as his blade charged with the scarlet aura he was accustomed to. He slammed his sword into the deep wound his blackout had created, hoping that that would be more effective than making a new cut every time.

Alyx had chosen the correct moment to focus on his defense. As the sky came falling down around him, Alyx took the impact on his shield, and it poured around him like molten iron, scorching the ground at his feet and bringing Aegis of the Usurper to a white-hot glow. The Gloomking took a breath as the attack subsided and switched to his offensive stance, ready to redeliver the venom that this poor b*****d had come to know and love back into its bloodstream. Alyx' health was thanking him for actually using the shield that he had strapped to his arm, and his inventory was urging him forward to conquest, driving him mad at the prospect of filling it to the breaking point with unimaginable loot.
Rota was being driven mad by something entirely different, it seemed, but there was nothing to do about that at the moment. Alyx just readied a thrust and prepared to drive what must be an exhausted blade back into the hide of the terrible horror against which they struggled.

Rota had to focus hard. He could smell the blood in the water so to speak. he was so focused he barely even acknowledged the impact from that light storm just now. it probably hurt like a mother b***h, but it didn't matter. This Boar needed to die. He maintained the aura on his sword, knowing full well that he was going to need to drop it again son to re-up his stamina. he slammed his sword into the juicy flesh of that wound again frantically, trying anything to get any more damage out of what he was doing to buy himself the extra seconds he needed. He at least didn't feel that man pulling on his psyche anymore so something he did must've earned his trust.

Alyx' blade buried itself in the creature and Rota dealt it a painful blow, reducing the boar to roughly 10% of its total health. They were almost there. Alyx' blade, if it were possible, he was sure would be out of venom, and his armor would be destroyed. He would be fighting this thing with his bare hands if equipment actually degraded over time. Rota seemed to have been brought back under control, and Alyx allowed his thoughts to begin drifting back toward combat as he took a rather vicious hit from a creature that he had no experience dodging. His feet felt heavy, even ignoring the fact that they were inside boots that weighed many times what they could have weighed. Alyx was simply not adequately practiced at evading, less in heavy armor even than in light, when he'd practiced his ill-conceived duelist persona. But he'd get his practice, and eventually the system would complement his natural ability. He tried to keep a lobe of his mind focused on his footwork, and primed a double strike to keep things fresh.

He hated to lose more time, but Rota had to make sure that he could finish this fight quick. He was back to stamina gathering mode. The demon warrior struck out with reckless abandon. he was confident that nothing the boar did could kill him before he killed it at this point, so he didn't need to play it safe. and even if it could, he was the parry god. he could fight how he pleased from here on out and get the same result as this one. he just needed the stamina to back his sword up properly, and that was the point of this strike. a few swings should get him the remaining stamina he needed to close out this fight for good.

Alyx stabbed the creature twice, and injected the gloomweave venom deep into his victim. Its health seemed to be dropping more quickly than ever, even though Alyx knew that that wasn't true. It was an illusion, but it was one that he willingly embraced. It was a small comfort, and it would give him the strength to push through this final surge. His health was lower than it had been in a very long time, and he was experiencing pain unlike he had ever felt before from the creature's light storms. He was suffering, but it was going to be worth it. If they could finish this --an it appeared likely that they could-- then Alyx would be vindicated. His choices would prove sound, and he would move into the future as the Gloomking without reservation. This battle had reignited the spark that he had felt so long before. It had reawakened his warrior spirit, and his love for this game. For this world. He was going to rule this place. And all of that --double strike-- was just on the other side of this pathetic creature.

That...was a lot of nothing. to say Rota was disappointed would be gravely underselling it. He whipped his sword once more, faster than before. he was GOING to kill this thing if it was the last thing it did. There was no avoiding its fate, it was merely stalling at this point. With the limited time Rota had, stalling was something he could not abide. He needed way more stamina and NOW if this was ever going to work. all he could do was stay the current desperate course and hope for the best. he was racing the sissy's ability to take control again, but his force of will was strong enough to keep him out for now.
