Gendis stared at her blankly. "There were thousands, perhaps millions of people on the death star. I've run into some imps who were kinder than others, and have no doubt at least a few of them were on that spacestation. But loss of life is always bad, because it's the loss of something that cannot ever be repayed." He nodded to himself. "When we speak in terms of 'only' decimating moons or planets, we forget that on each of those are individuals, even outside of your consciousness, normal people wo no one ever will care about anymore."

(( Rockin' counterpoint, ND 3nodding Of course, you know and I know that for all the Imp's Darth Vaders, Wilhuff Tarkins and such, they also had their Crix Madines, Davin Felths and Mordranna Brunhildts. But, given Zendia's state o' mind, she's not quite in the mood ... sweatdrop ))
"Duh," Zendia spat. "Well, you can save your sympathy for all who were lost on Alderaan. People like my family." She felt her voice begin to break up. "I ... I'll hear no more about the Death Star,"

((I return! and we'll have a new guy coming in soon. I hope))
Orrin woke up to a loud buzzer.
Damn chronometer...
Orrin decided to head to the mess hall, grab some pastries, and wake up. Grumbling as usual, he was not a very good sight in the morning. A nightowl by heart, and he just woke up.
And we know how much of an a** he is woken up.

Kefka placed his mug back in the dispenser bay and headed off to get some sleep.
"I'm out," he said as he left the Mess Hall.

(( You know ... that about sounds like me schedule IRL! xd And now, to write stuff ... ))
"I'm going, as well," Zendia announced to the others. She then headed towards the quarters set aside for the squad, and crawled into the cot assigned to her. Her sole confidant, Rusty, also came in. "What do you think, dear?" She asked the droid, not really expecting an answer, save for one in his own electronic language. "And, who does he think he is? Gives the new girl a hard time, and then, he suggests that we feel sorry for the Death Star crew?" Zendia simply didn't get it. Sure, Gendis usually seemed like a nice enough guy. But, his statements, fresh on her mind, simply rubbed her the wrong way. "Veron ... mother ... everyone ... they're all gone! And, daddy is space knows where!" This time, she wouldn't stop the fresh tears that rolled down her cheeks. Right now, he's probably in an Imp cell, being tortured by that "Captain Brunhildt"! She balled her tiny fists. I should have killed her when I had the chance! "Why?!" The only response was a mournful hoot from Rusty.

Azure yawned, "I guess I'll go to bed too." she said as she got up. She followed Zendia to the squad quarters and went to the refresher to clean up. When she came out she saw Zendia crying. She looked at the young woman before speaking, "Are you alright?" she asked concerned.

Gendis sat at the table, now alone, drinking some fruit-flavored beverage slowly. He'd lost his composure, and that was unlike him. It was selfish to put his demons before the team, he realized, so he got up to find Azure.

Orrin, who had only just woke up and entered the mess hall, watched as everyone left. Checking to see if it was his smell (bath before bed, not after) he shrugged, and sat in peace about his "breakfast". Of course, in space, night and day have no time or meaning. Orrin simply just woke up, and it was mealtime.

(( ND: an interesting turn, yes? Looks like you get to be the teacher here! mrgreen ))
Zendia was surprised to see Azure standing there. "Uh ... not quite. But thanks," she replied, wiping a tear with one hand. Forcing a smile, she added, "I suppose it helps to have someone to talk about it with," she chimed in, as Rusty gave a questioning hoot. "No offense, dear," She then turned back to Azure. "You see, my family was lost on Alderaan, and my father is a prisoner of the Empire. I don't even know if he's even still alive," She then turned to Rusty. "If you would, dear?" Rusty complied with a small hoot. At once, a small hologram appeared. "That's me, of course," Zendia said, pointing herself out in the small holo of her family. And then, without missing a beat, she told Azure about the other members. "That's Veron, my little brother," she said, her longing gaze fixed upon the young boy, whom, to her sorrow, was now vaporized. "And, that's my mother. And, finally ... my father," And then, the pain was too much. "Rusty, that will be all for now,"

(( AC: ^_~ ))
Gendis had been listening and watching as Zendia showed the holos of her family. Slowly he approached her and put a comforting hand on her shoulder. He was unusually solemn, and spoke in an even tone. "Your brother and your mother are both dead. But your father is alive." He smiled now, "I can feel it."
He patted her on the back, wiped some tears from her eyes, and lay his hand tentatively on Rusty's head. "Be content that they died instantaneously, with no pain, only surprise. Would that those were the only things one could feel upon dying..."
He stared at the floor now. "...rather than remaining alive and feeling the weight of those deaths. Death is what we ultimately attempt to prevent, but is also our job. To survive now, we have to forget about death, put it behind us." He laughed a little, a humorless sound that echoed from his throat. "Feel fortunate that only the grief of a family still possessing honor and integrity remains with you. It could be a lot worse. Alderaan was a beautiful world, and at least those who have survived it can remember its beauty fondly. Perhaps you can even channel that towards a will to fight. Whatever feels best, and keeps you alive."
He kissed her cheek gently and turned to Azure. He drew closer but stopped outside of her reach. "I'd just like to apologize to you. I should give you a chance, just as Emerald Squadron did for me."
He turned on his heel and left, reaching his assigned room before losing his composure again.

(( shouldn't that be a flat head? Remember, Rusty's an R5 ^^;; ))
Zendia looked on in shock. Still, Gendis's words were indeed soothing to her, and, in spite of herself, she was thankful for it, even blushing as he gave her a small peck on the cheek. "T-thank ... you." she said, embarassed. As Gendis turned to leave, Zendia got up. "Oh ... one more thing. I'm sorry ... about yelling at you like that,"

Zendia then curled up in her bunk. "Wake me if anything comes up, dear?" she asked Rusty as her eyes shut, with the rust-colored droid merely beeping an affirmative.
