Lately, I decided I should try and do doodles each day and post them, to help me out. even if they suck.

Finished Brainy's right hand.

User Image

Total sculpting time on the hand: 3 hours

The reason there's a white patch on the left arm is that the arm developed cracks there. I tried to patch it with sculpy but it recracked, so it's patched with milliput. Milliput is a two-part epoxy molding material that cures when you mix the two parts together, rather than baking like the sculpy needs.

Ignore the illusion of irises on the eyes. I drew them on there with pencil for reference sake, but that's actually not the direction he's going to be looking after it's finished.

The work on the hand really shows in the detail on his finger joints, but my favourite part of it still his belt. I do not know why.

I'm having trouble in my pictures showing it from the correct angle. He's going to be positioned on his base slightly turned with his left shoulder towards you.

Things are starting to come together. I had to repatch the left arm and it needs sanding. The base is far from complete and the body itself needs some general sanding and smoothing work.

But I think you can start to get an idea of what the finished bust is going to look like.

Reference pic of COMPUTO, Brainiac's most maniacal invention, which is the inspiration for the base piece.

The base will be cast as a separate piece from Brainy's body, but those wire thingies going around the top of the head are giving me fits.

God help me I'm trying to comic.

Even with a horror theme I can't stay serious. This'll probably be the only panel in the first short sequence I'm going to really paint instead of inking like most comics. Still working out my process so I get it to look like I want relatively quickly and so I can pass it off to the colorist (my co-writer) without fuss.

I like the idea of a horror with comity. It has a Brandon Graham feel to it.

speaking of Graham, here is some King City Fan are. That foot was a b***h to draw, I really suck at proportions, even more so if the perspective is distorted.

I've decided to take a try at a small experiment, inspired by some of the art created by Linda. I'm trying to create a "Comic book action figure Barbie". My first experiment is Pixie.

Sense I can't find the right combination of skin tone and hair coloring i ripped out all of the hair of one barbie (from Linda's and Oni's very helpful suggestions.) and within the same barbie that was once hairless I'm replacing the hair with the hair from another barbie. (that is without curves and nothing fits on.)

As I expected my daughter if finding my experiment rather interesting. Asking me endless questions on why I'm "Removing the hair from your mask, Mommy." (She calls the different heads masks) And she stole my first barbie. Having outwitted me with her logic I allowed her to keep the doll. And so it begins after 4 1/2 years without a barbie doll.

This is what I have after a week of plucking and rerooting (threading the hair back into the barbie head.)

Once I'm able to locate black semi curly hair in a store I'll add that color. Though I may end up purchasing it over the interwebs.

I decided to do some fan art of Sweet Tooth by Jeff Lemire.
I also tried doing background art, but I wanted to do this hazy out of focus effect, because I knew I couldn't draw a good background.
Anyways, what do you think?
