Shahrazade
Shalom. :] My name is Samantha and I am quite excited to be here.

I'm from Las Vegas, and am currently attending the first Jewish high school in the state of Nevada. There I am very lucky to have a Judaic studies course, as well as take Hebrew in an environment where we have many people who speak the language fluently. I am still learning many things about Judaism since I grew up in a family that wasn't really observant to any religion whatsoever (though my mother was a Jew and my dad was a Catholic) and am still contemplating what road I will take. I actually studied with the Chabad for a year.

But other than that I like history, used to be an Art Major at the Las Vegas Academy and like many different types of music. I think I'm a bit loony sometimes, but hey, who isn't?

Otherwise I am honored to be here and am anxious to start conversing with you all. :3

That's awesome! Welcome to the guild and no matter what you choose, good luck with it! Art and history are pretty amazing, so I can't blame you for that at all. blaugh

IRL Stuff - Hi! I'm Allison, but I would really prefer it if you called me by my Gaia name, Miss Jii Ya or just Jii Ya. I'm 13, and just became a Bat Mitzvah on September 8. I'm from Lawng Gisland (that's how it's pronounced; accurate spelling is Long Island lol) But I go to synogogue (sp?) in New Yawk City. (again, that's how we pronounce it here; accurate spelling is New York City)

Gaia Info - I just joined Gaia in march, but already I'm leaning more towards the AT and charity forums.

Occupation - Eighth grader. I used to go to Solomon Schechter, but unfortunately the social situation never really worked out. Oh it's so difficult to be an anime fan sometimes!

Hobbies/Interests - Anime and Manga, Origami, and most of my friends I make at synogogue.

Favorites - Color: as long as it looks good, I like it... Food: Us New Yorkers have pretty high standards for restaurants. Unfortunately I don't keep completely kosher, but I have never had ham, I don't eat milk with meat, and I don't bring shellfish into the house. I like sushi. Pretty much anything but cooked fish. (unfortunately that includes gefilte fish)

Misc. - Sha, I am such a Gaia-tard! I also want to have 500 youtube subscribers one day. I am a conservative Jew. Oh, and my Hebrew name is Sarah. Wish I could type in hebrew on this computer, that would be SiCk!!

Hi everyone... as you can tell from my clothes, I am very new to Gaia. Pulling from the first post in the thread:

The Basics:

My name is: just call me Fido
Age: Older than you. Seriously. I'm in my late 30s.
From: northern CA
Occupation: veterinarian, not practicing. Going back to school in fine art.
Hobbies/Interests: too many to count. Some include... high fire ceramics, sewing (the more subversive the better), knitting, embroidery, baking, writing. I don't consider art a hobby... it's a more serious pursuit.
Favorites: I don't watch tv anymore (for real!), favorite movie (not that I care much about movies) is Babette's Feast. Love anything by Nick Park. Not really reading much at the moment. Current favorite drawing materials... Caron D'asch Neocolor I and Rembrandt Pastels. Like Neil Gaimon's Sandman series and Willingham's Fables.
Misc.: Happily married for a long time. Owned by 3 small kids, a dog, a cat and a pair of goldfish.
Affiliation: open-minded conservadox

Gaia Info:
So new my clothes still suck. Not that I care. I'm mostly here for 2 reasons: 1) I see a lot of manga influence in other students' work and I would like to gain more familiarity with the genre. 2) With 3 small kids, I find myself up many nights dealing with whatever... and I wind up playing Yahoo games. I figure this would probably be a more interesting way to kill the hours. I'll probably lurk a lot. Thanks for letting the dog in. wink

Fido: Well, age usually means maturity, so we're glad to have you! Your hobbies sound amazing; I've always wanted to do so many of those! I can't say that I've heard of either Nick Park or Babette's Feast, though. xp

Rabbit: Georgia is pretty awesome- I have a few friends who have relatives/go to school there! Is that anywhere near Georgia Tech?

I'm so sorry for your loss; I can't even begin to imagine what that's like. I hope things get better, and I'm here if you need to rant or anything.

Welcome to both of you; I hope you enjoy it here!

Nick Park is the guy behind Wallace and Gromit. (My moniker is an obscure tip o' the hat.) Gromit would be the best dog in the universe, if it weren't for the fact that the real best dog in the universe was owned by *me* for a little over 13 years.

On the surface Babette's Feast sounds like it hits the Official Dull Trifecta: Almost no plot, incredibly bland setting, and subtitles. But I've yet to find anyone who doesn't fall head over heels in love with the movie. I don't want to give away why, so I'll just have to say that the whole thing builds to the ending, and you're not even aware that it is happening until it's over. And then you've kinda got to bask. It's a cold-weather, chamomille tea and a blanket kind of quiet movie.

And I will NOT be doing that, so... I want to learn more about judaism, thanks!

P.S. - The name (isaiahprophet) is because Isaiah is one of my favorite books in the bible/tora. Thansk biggrin

Occupation - I'm a highschool student. =P
Hobbies/Interests - I like knitting, sewing, anime, manga, reading, drawing, ... typing...

Where did you read my story?
PostPosted: Tue Jan 01, 2008 10:38 am

Shalom, ya'll, as we say in the mid-south!

Boker tov (it's morning here), I am Nanao. I've been on Gaia for awhile. You may have seen me typing in 3rd person on Gaia, in the GCD and in LD. Think I'll drop it here, seeing as I want to be more personal.
My Hebrew name is Rivkah. I actually go by my Hebrew nickname, Riki, to almost all my friends. So you can call me Riki. (The spelling is just something I devised, it could be Ricky or something else). I am a conservative Jew, although that's my own choice. I was raised in a family of Messanics. (Messianic Jews are what you call Jews for Jesus.) I actually don't know if my parent's know I'm conservative, but that's all right. We go to a conservative shul, so I'm sure they wouldn't have problems with it.

I'm pretty much the ONLY young person to attend my shul EVERY SATURDAY. I keep kosher, but not glatt, though I'm considering it. It's going to be a hard transition, but worth the effort! I hear glatt is healthier.

I actually wear headcoverings every day. Unusual for a woman, let alon e a teen, but hey! I have lots of reasons for it. It's a personal thing.

I plan on going to a university in Israel someday. In fact, we're going to Israel over spring break! Lucky!!

I love to read, fantasy especially. I do jigsaw puzzles, and I'm OBSESSED WITH THE COLOR ORANGE!

That's me!
