"Your mother doesn't live here does she?" William asked. "Because this place feels like a ghost town. After having looked around a little I'd have guessed that either everyone got up and left, or some fiend or another already had their way with this place. Also, if your mother needed care you should have asked for time off from your duties, instead of taking that time in the middle of an assignment. You were sent here to gather information. So let's hear it, what did you find out"

((He was sent to investigate a report of a fiend in the area, correct?))

Gregory blinked at his comrades apparent hostility and looked from one to the other," Fiend? Oh... right. Yeah I remember coming here to investigate, but I couldn't find anything out of the ordinary. I was going to head back but then Mother needed me..." he looked to William," and you watch what you say. My mother does so live here. I wouldn't lie about that. As for everyone else, the last I saw of them they were headed to the mines this morning...I guess they aren't back yet...anyway I need to get back to tend to Mother. Your welcome to meet her. If you've just arrived you can stay with us and get this fiend business sorted out if you don't believe me about it." Gregory tucked his dagger away again and began walking away down a dusty path.

Kiro said nothing but changed his body language to a more casual stance to imply that everything was okay even though he thought otherwise. I don't like him.

"We will come with you. When were the villagers supposed to come back? If they don't return soon one of us should go check it out." Kiro announced.

"Well, since everyone in the entire town seems to be out at the moment we may as well go with you to see your mother." William said. He tucked his dagger back up his sleeve but left his arm resting across the pommel of his sword, despite it being a good position for a quick draw it was also comfortable. "Once everyone comes back we can ask around some more about this whole fiend report. Lead the way, Gregory."

Gregory smiled and nodded,"Oh good, I was hoping you'd come. I can introduce you to Mother. She loves meeting new people." He headed down the path he had been about to take before, humming tunelessly as he went.
"She should be in the mines with everyone else. We don't make her work though. That wouldn't be right. I can't wait for you to meet her. She keeps telling me she'd like to see more of my friends, but I'm so busy tending her I couldn't find the time to come back. Not to worry though. As soon as we are done here I'll head back straight away."
After a moderate walk down the path, the entrance to the mine could be seen. It looked ordinary as far as mines went, though the opening looked quite black in contrast to the daylight.
"Ah! there it is!" Gregory quickened his pace. He wasn't running, but his steps were very eager.

Following behind Gregory by a moderate distance of roughly ten steps, Kiro kept a very close eye on him. This guy really acts strangely. Kiro commented in thought to almost every word of Gregory's.

This mission was originally just meant for me to leave the Corps for a while... A team was optional. That alone is strange considering the contents of this assignment. A member of our own Corps with similar ability to us had disappeared and they send just me. Either they think way too highly of me or something is not right here. I'm not liking the location of where we're going neither. The village seemed like it had been abandoned weeks or even months ago.

The three now approached the mouth of the mine.

William continued to follow along after Gregory. He noticed that Kiro seemed tense. Kiro had excellent instincts, so William knew something must be off. In fact Will was feeling a little anxious himself.
Kiro and Will were walking a couple of steps behind Gregory so Will made a gesture towards Kiro to get his attention. Trying to be quiet about it he made a show of checking his weapons, loosening his swords in their sheaths, and making sure his daggers were ready should he need them. He still felt odd without his kukri. His new one hadn't been finished yet since the old one had been sliced in half.

Gregory approached the entrance to the mine, but slowed when a figure appeared out of the gloom from within. He seemed a large man, built for heavy labor, and carried a pick axe in both hands. His stance appeared casual, but wary at the same time. The man blinked at the sunlight as he accustomed his eyes and held up a hand which was coated in dust and grime from the mine. Before he could speak, Gregory laid a hand on his shoulder and said in a jolly tone,"It's alright Amos. They aren't vagabonds. They are my friends from the Corps. I wanted to introduce them to Mother. You know how she likes meeting new people..."
Amos looked from Gregory to Kiro and William and back again. He gave a short nod after a moment and stepped aside to let them pass," Sounds fine, but just be careful down the main passage. We've been widening it and some of the supports aren't completely settled yet."
Gregory nodded his head, for all like an impatient child that has heard this lecture too many times before and is anxious to be off,"Yes yes, ok ok. C'mon you guys!" he exclaimed and darted into the passage. Amos looked over the Corps members again a trifle dubiously and added,"You best be after him or you'll get lost in the mine. Mind what I said about the passage," he held up a hand to forestall the questions he could plainly see in their eyes," Aye, I can see your curious. You'll get your answers after your done with Gregory and Mother. If you don't finish your business with him first he'll never let you alone. Off with you."

William continued on past Amos, following after Gregory. He still felt a small sense of unease, though he could not pinpoint what at. Either way, just to be safe, he still rested one forearm across the pommel of his sword.

((Still pretty much just waiting...))

Kiro huried after Gregory. Kiro ignored most of Amos' existence, but did note that there was a possibility of a cave-in.

(( Shoulda skipped the whole walking part. D: ))

Gregory led his comrades into the darkness of the mine. The blackness was illuminated with only scant pools of light from a lantern here, or a torch there. As Gregory walked on, chatting incessantly about idle topics, William and Kiro might have noticed as they passed other people within the mine swinging pick axes. Some of those they passed stopped to watch as the trio walked by, their silent eyes followed them while reflecting the dim light. Gregory seemed to know exactly where he was going, and finally stepped into a dark chamber. It was impossible to tell how large due to the darkness, but the echoes of their steps and Greogory's voice took some time to return," Mother is in here...oh I can't wait to introduce you! MOOOTTHHERRRRRR!!!" he called loudly, his voice echoing through the mine.

Alright, note to self: I don't like being underground. This is damn disconcerting...
When Gregory yelled out to his mother William winced. He didn't think it was necessary to be that loud, especially underground, where sounds carry. And where sudden loud noises could possibly cause a cave in.

The tension in the cave began to irritate Kiro as he followd Gregory deeper inside. "Teh, what kind of mother to anyone lives in a cave like this." Kiro whispered to William as if to hint that this probably wasn't going to be pretty.

Gregory smiled and nodded enthusiastically,"Oh yes, Mother. These are my friends that you noticed. Of course I brought them to meet you. I know how much you like meeting new people..." he paused and tilted his head as if hearing something,"Oh I'm sure they'd love to stay. They only just got here..." Gregory turned to regard Kiro and William in the gloom and smiled,"Mother says she is hungry and would love for you to stay for a meal..."
Gregory's voice trailed off and he stood quietly with a vacant expression. At that moment there was movement behind him. Out of the darkness loomed an enormous spider, it's many eyes reflecting the scant light, and seemed to be fixed right on the two Hunters. Sounds behind them would reveal the villagers had followed them into the chamber and were now blocking the passage out. Every one of the people had an identicle vacant expression like Gregory.
The spider hissed, a clear liquid dribbling from its fangs as they worked open and closed rapidly, legs spreading wide before charging forward at incredible speed.

"Kiro, Look out!" William cried as he dove to one side.
As he dove he drew out his katana with his right hand and flipped it over in his grip. He simultaneously snapped his left wrist down, dropping a dagger out of his sleeve and into his hand. He threw the dagger, sending twirling end over end, aimed at the spider's face.
