He was really beginning to see why his father said this journey would make him "grow". Everywhere he looked, he saw discontent. Some of it was his, yes. But at the moment, it was Jae's and he knew that look. "Sorry, I know I'm supposed to... you know." He stopped his tracing and turned more fully to look at her. "I would go with you. If the food on the ship continues in this standard, I think it will become a necessity." Was she really upset?

"You're lucky I don't have physical feelings." But sensing the tension, Xeke hovered more slowly and inched a bit closer to them. "He's like that, Bell. You know that... He enjoys sunset flights, giving orders, and not smiling." Sometimes, not even Lord Lycear could break through the wall that was his past.

"then we have an accord? and when have I ever said you were at my beck and call...save when you need your not so unattractive rear gotten out of whatever trouble you dropped it in."

A smirk and taking a swing of the rum again.

"Besides...if I wanted a captain under me..I'd pick the Dagger..if I can find a captain that can last on her."

hmm...might be fun to throw someone to the wolves over there.

Shyrae nodded and began to finger a few other blades. "This isn't human made though. I can tell by the design and the feel of it. Something ancient made this blade. Hold it and see." She set the knife in Savryn's hand then lit up for a moment. "A staff! Yes, I've been needing one since I broke mine across Malikhai's back." She began to speak to the pirate to see if the good lady might know of where she could find one.

The pirate lifted a hand and backhanded Caden right across the face. "Do no' lie to a pirate, Boy. Asking to get yerself gutted." He drew out his own blade and held it to Caden's throat. "Ye think ye be like me when ye be dressed as ye are and speak the way ye do? Ye know no more about the sea then me own mother knew about me!" Leaning back slightly, he propped a booted foot on Caden's chest and pretended to think about it. "On deck with Captain Deacon are ye? He'd not take a lily-livered excuse for a pirate like ye." Another shake of his head. "Ye're a cocky one ain't ye? Tell me then Boy, why should I be sellin' me glass to ye? What do ye intend to be doin' with it?"

"No, it's okay...it hurts you anyway sometimes. I wouldn't want to make you go through that."Pulling her knees to her chest, she wrapped her arms around them and rested her chin there for the moment. There was really no sense in making him miserable for a length of time by making him do such a thing. A side glance to the little orb that spoke freely as it wanted to no matter who was around. "And learning things, you can't forget that."

Testing the blade in her hand she smirked slightly. "Hm, you're right. No way a human forged this." Slicing it through the air. "Wonderful dymanics to it as well." Though a chuckle as Shyrae got all excited at the prospect of a new staff. "Well...if you didn't hit him with it, it wouldn't of broke. He was wearing armor after all. Though it was funny how surprised he was." A look back to the blade dealer. "I'll take this one and the red serraded ones." Thus to bargining.

"Yes we do...and as such not being at your beck and call, if I choose to break off then that's my right. Not to trail around in the sands with out forever and a day." A shrug. "I'd scuttle that ship if she was mine. But do be a gentleman and buy me a case of rum, I have other supplies to attend to, and...I'd like to see this Laerethe. I'm not going on a fool's journey."

Well now being backhanded was the last thing he expected but then again this was a pirate he was talking to, so once he got hit in the face Caden took it without so much as a complaint, though he did give a sharp hiss to the sting before he turned his eyes back to the man. Of course now that the man had to rant could he really speak up? No and that's why he kept quiet of course because the last thing he wanted was either another scar on his face or his throat slit.

"Well Captain Deacon takes those onto his ship that he could use and mold into pirates that he needs, of course I've been working for him for a bit now but there is still more I need to learn." A small pause as he gave it a thought over. "I need a spyglass just like any other pirate needs a spyglass, when I need to see something from a far I'll use it if I'm able to purchase one. But also I want one that is different for any regular one a person can get, one that may stand out and yet not attract too much attention, a spyglass that I would love to use and carry around."
PostPosted: Thu May 31, 2007 9:12 pm

"Good, isn't it?" Though she got slightly huffy, "Well if he hadn't tried to act all big brother, I wouldn't have hit him. There was nothing wrong with that boy who was coming to see me." She glanced back and nodded then laughed, "I don't know who was more surprised when it broke though, me or him. We both just kind of stared at each other for a second then busted out laughing." Her attention was directed back to the pirate woman who held out a staff and Shyrae took it and began a cursory examination. After getting her questions answered and testing the height, she nodded then began bartering.

The pirate pushed down a little harder on Caden's chest and shook his head. "Ye're lyin' boy. That's twice ye've chosen to do so. I'll not be toleratin' a third." He crossed his arms for a moment then threw his head back and roared with laughter. "The only pirates who need spyglasses boy, are captains and first mates. But if ye'll not be on the sea, as I suspect ye won't fer much longer, what use would a glass be to ye?"

Yes, she really was upset. He could tell by her current position. Which made him feel guilty about being difficult... Golden eyes softening, he raised a hand to pet at her hair and ran his fingers through the strands. Something he used to do when they were young, he'd been told many times that she enjoyed it because it calmed her. "I'm sorry, Jae. I'll still go with you, Xeke can warn me about the time." A pause to glance up at the floating ball and then back down at her. "What can I do to put you at ease again?"

"Right, exploring is on the list too." Oddly enough, the Seon had an amazingly accurate way of measuring time which was very useful in all sorts of situations. But it knew when it wasn't wanted and promptly flew off in the direction of the ship again. Time to do some more snooping around.

In all honesty Caden wish right now that he could stab this man in the foot, damn pirates always thought that someone was lying to them all the damn time. "Now hang on just because only captains and first mates get spyglasses doesn’t mean you don’t have to stop there, if someone was interested in buying one then why not sell one if it fetches you a profit? It works out for you in the end anyway." A sigh though as he really wished he had the means to get up, knife or other wise cause this was bugging him.

"Now as I said I like to have a spyglass to use just like anyone would, but also get one that I would like to own because I also like to collect things that spark my interest, now if you have a spyglass that is interesting enough for me I would be glad to barter for it and settle on a price that you and me can both agree on." Caden was giving the man a stare, not a threatening one but one that said that he was telling what the man wanted to know and now wanted to just carry on. "Now is that a good enough reason for you or you just gonna think I'm lying again and cut me for it?" He asked as he laid there, thinking over of him opening his mouth minutes ago about what he wanted. Somehow this seemed a little too much for something that could be bought in a store.

"Your taste for...rough and tumble men...so to speak, isn't exactly the healthiest. Besides he was snobbish and tracked mud in on my mother's floors." Anyone who knew Piper D'vinn knew how she was abotu that...she had made a joke out of it and it had grown on the family as a whole. "Malikhai has his hands full trying to manage Zykariel's racing and making profit off of it for them both." Her eldest brother was quite the business man. "Well, you both learned that he still breaks things." Taking her daggers and slipping them into the sheath she wore in the small of her back that was home to all her other blades.

She blinked at the sudden action of his fingers running through her hair. It was old and familiar, comforting as ever. Jaebelltiah turned her look back him, watching a moment and giving a light but still concerned smile. See, he had that look where he wasn't just Commander. "I suppose it would be alright then, if you really wanted to go with me." He seemed a tad adamant about it and if he truly wanted to she wasn't going to deny him that right. Quieting again a moment and blinking at his little question before looking back to him. "Give me a smile? Just a little one at least?"

Shyrae shrugged, "That's a delicate way of putting it. Thanks for sparing my feelings in there Savvy." She knew neither of the families liked her taste in men but she couldn't help those she liked. "He did indeed, which is why he wouldn't have been coming back." She took her staff and gave it an experimental wave, nodding. "Thank you very much." Thus glancing back over at Caden. "He's having trouble isn't he?"

Picking Caden up by the front of his tunic and backhanding him again, he shook him. "Ye're too cocky, Boy." Dropping him onto the dock, the pirate pulled out a spyglass that would make any pirate envious. It was solid black with gold edges and slid in and out quite smoothly. It also extended longer than most. "Made of somethin' real valuable, it is. So, I s'pose I'll sell it to ye if ye give me the right price. But if ye use it to harm any of me brethern, I'll be sendin' ye to Davy Jones' locker, I will."

Were things better now? Well, he still wasn't quite sure. Jae had that tendency to catch him off guard, whether it was with her usual perky energy or in situations like now. "I said I would keep an eye on you." Keeping his word as always. Though her request did surprise him somewhat, then again he didn't really know what he had been expecting and she did seem to like collecting his smiles in her memory or something. "I... Alright." Thus tilting his lips upwards and giving her a smile. "I was thinking happy thoughts... Did it work?" It was really odd when you didn't quite know how to truly smile naturally.

Joy another backhand and a shake, what fun Caden was receiving on the very first leg of this little adventure; though he knew that this was one thing he would not tell to the kids. Still when the pirate pulled out the spyglass that he had Caden couldn't believe that a man like this actually held onto his kind of spyglass.

Though he looked at the man with a raised eyebrow and shook his head. "You really think I want to harm anyone with this beautiful piece of work?" Shaking his head he pulled his pouch that held his money out and paused as he looked inside, working for the city a person gets paid pretty good. "Well now let's see here..." Pausing a moment to look at the spy glass he reached inside the pouch, after rooting through it he pulled out a ruby, diamond, a small piece of amber and at least sixty pieces of gold. "I think that is enough." He said as he held it out towards the pirate, though would he take it? Hopefully the man would.

"I'm blunt. Can't help myself." Smirking lightly and twitching her ears before rubbing at her eyes and then at her temples with one hand. Starting to drain a bit...but her attention turned back up to her friend. "Good to know that among that particular group, you pick out the decent ones." And a look over to Caden. "Seems so. Pirates are hard dealers. Feel the urge to help?" Hell, she didn't help anyone...or at least wasn't in the mood to.

Her current look didn't betray what she felt pang a little inside. His obligation. Was she an obligation to everyone? Often it seemed so, but she supposed that's how it was when you bounced among people. And he didn't seem to willing on her request either. Though it was amusing that he tried and kind of did it. "Well enough Kaznec." Thus giving her a smile of her own, leaning her head into his hand some as it was still in her hair. "You'll get the hang of it...I'll have to just start tickling you or something if you don't."

He felt her lean in a bit and maneuvered his fingers to brush through the longer strands in front, tucking a few behind her ear and then dropping his hand. Sure, she may have said that she liked it but women never liked a man to touch her too much. At least, that's the advice Xeke once offered. He personally had never had intimate experience with the opposite sex. "I taught you tickling, only to have you use it as a weapon against me all the time." It really was too bad that he was indeed ticklish.

"You get it from your father, I'm sure. One of those things you either love or hate about you. I happen to go the way of the former rather than the latter. She shook her head. "He seems to be beyond help at this point. Last thing I want to do is turn a whole pirate port against us. I think we'd better head back to the ship anyway. Hawk told us an hour and a half and we've about expired our time."

The pirate's eyes widened at the sight of that pouch and he quickly swiped it leaving Caden with what was left in his hands and thrust the spyglass into the boy's hands. "Glad to be rid of the accursed thing. Enjoy Boy!" Thus he turned and disappeared down the dock, his new fortune in hand.
