She had only made it a few flights before she needed to stop. Her hand rested on the side wall, collecting her breath from the already long flight of stairs she had concurred. How many more were there....

If only the voice could really grant her something...she might just stop. But instead it sounded tired and broken. Only disappointment huh? He was getting tired and it wasn't just the climbing. Something else was weighing down on him. He couldn't help but wonder if it had something to do with the Voice. What was it doing to him?

She turned to look down at the path she had just traveled. Was she fooling herself was this voice right, only disappointment would greet her in the end? Could she possibly go back and find the bird he seemed to like her well enough...or maybe he wanted her for a pet...those other kingdoms could be odd like that. Put one step in front of the other, just walk a little longer...and have some fun along the way. Oh yeah that's the way. She mused to herself that it was an odd time to be so chipper. She had watched Mitsu die, Roch die, her Commander was attacked numerous times and she just stood there and let it happen. And now...now she was climbing stairs because this king was too cheap to find a beam or an elevator or even some hover bikes! There the end was in sight, she could just feel it. Disappointment was the last thing on Julian's mind. He didn't think the Voice had a single clue.
I will gain and end to this, hopefully. I will bring this facade to an end and I will take my friends home.
Julian couldn't help but feel just a little bit sorry for the Voice at this point, with it's almost defeated tone. It wanted a master, a "True King" to command it and it wasn't going to get that. There was too much at stake for any of the Awakened to just stop. Too many had too much to lose.

Finally a tune came into his head, and old lullaby that Mum used to sing at night. He let out another sigh, missing his family.
As the pang of missing them started to sink in with everything else, Julian finally reached the top of the stairs. Hopefully there wouldn't be more on the other side.
