"Weird."
And with that, Amalirahc let the subject drop.
Once breakfast was over, Earendil turned to Lin. "So what's next?" he asked her. "Miyuki's lessons?"

Lin nodded, "It's going to be trial and error sort of thing I've never taught before. If she's still energetic then we can do a few katas before settling down to anything that requires sitting."
Since that's what she did, she had energy (though she wasn't sure if she had as much as Miyuki did) and that tended to work with her.

Earendil pursed his lips thoughtfully. "I've taught before," he said slowly. "I don't know ... perhaps it wouldn't be a good idea, since once we arrive on the island I'll be working with Aerin, but perhaps I could teach Miyuki, even just for the voyage? Or we could do it together?"
It would give him something to keep him occupied as well, since the voyage was just as long for him as for anyone else. And really it would mean that he could spend more time with Miyuki, which he knew she would love, and he would like very much. Especially if it meant more time with Lin.

"That would be very helpful," Lin admitted.
She had never taught before, and it seemed to her like almost everyone in her family had taught before except her. Which really she knew wasn't true, but it certainly seemed that way! So she would look forward to any help she could get.
She smiled a bit, "It would be great for all of us."

Earendil smiled widely. "Then it's settled. And you know, worse come to worse, if she can't settle down she could always do some physical training, beyond her katas, to try to use up some of her energy."
He wasn't sure how much Lin had taught Miyuki, or if Miyuki had started to learn anything yet, but he was used to training the Home Guard, and he had enjoyed that.

Lin nodded that always sounded like a good idea, "That's what I use to do as a child when I couldn't settle down. Beyond practical lessons, book study I never did well it and I disliked meditation, both required a lot of sitting from me."
Being told stories were completely different to her, she didn't know why, but she would rather someone talk to her rather than her read. It wasn't that she disliked reading, a good book was always nice, but... well studying from a book was dull.

Earendil smiled and nodded. "Sounds like a plan," he said softly. He picked up their dishes and handed them off to Arwen, then turned to Miyuki and held one hand down to her. "Come," he smiled at her. "Time for some lessons."
He was looking forward to this - excited, actually. Yes, he had taught before, and trained before, but never someone so important to him. This was his daughter - or someday would be officially.

Miyuki looked up at him and blinked before taking his hand, "Book and quill?"
She asked this hopefully because really that's what she really wanted. Miyuki really, really liked the idea of using books and quills because her Mummi always used them.
"Languages first," Lin replied, "But we'll do a bit of that as well."

Earendil squeezed Miyuki's hand gently. "You can learn the language of the people we're going to be living with," he told her. "Only a few of them know how to speak the language we're using right now, so you need to learn so that you will be able to speak with them easily."
He looked over at Lin. "Shall we teach her in my quarters?" he asked her. "It's quite large, and we could set up the second desk for her use."
Considering he had one bed and two desks, while Lin's quarters had two beds and one desk, it made more sense to him.

"That would be a good idea," Lin nodded.
If she recalled correctly Earendil got the room that the neko trio stayed in previous which meant it was bigger. Much better if the three of them (four if you included Amalirahc) inside.
"More words to remember?" Miyuki asked.
Really to her that's what it seemed like since she had been always learning other languages on and off.

"It's a bit more complicated than that," Earendil told Miyuki gently, "but yes, I suppose you could say that."
He looked behind them to make sure Amalirahc was still following them, then continued on to his quarters.

"I know a lot of different words," Miyuki replied.
Though they were all jumbled up and at the moment she probably couldn't differ between on language to the next very well.

"That's a good start," Earendil chuckled softly, patting Miyuki on the head as he led her into his quarters, "but then you have to be able to put them together, because it doesn't work the same in different languages."
"That sounds hard," Amalirahc said dubiously, twirling some of his hair around his index finger.
Earendil arched one eyebrow at the boy. "If it's too hard for you-" he began, but Amalirahc cut him off.
"No!" the boy said harshly. "There isn't anything too hard for me! I can do it, just you wait and see!"

Miyuki was surprised by Amalirahc's harsh reaction, but it didn't worry her all that much. She was sure it would be fun (though why she decided that was a mystery).
"We'll do it together!" Miyuki proclaimed she was sure they would be able to do it together.

Amalirahc was a proud boy, and he was determined that he could do anything he would put his mind to. There would be nothing that was too difficult for him to do.
"Together," he agreed with Miyuki, his eyes filled with determination. "And that way it won't be too hard for us! Right, Earendil?"
Earendil chuckled and nodded. "Right. It's always easier to learn something with someone else."
He led them into his quarters and ushered them towards the bed, which at the moment would be the most comfortable place for them to sit. He had always found it the easiest to learn things when he was comfortable. Especially languages - since of course, comfort was conducive to conversation, which was what language was all about.
