Callista's temper was starting to rise. "You're right. You have no right to command me. You did it anyway. I didn't expect that from you, Valzar. Just as you must obey a female of your mother's tribe, I must obey you because you are male." She was crying. "You wanted me to stop. As your friend, I would have left that alone. But you made it a command."

Valzar found himself at a loss. He'd never meant to command her...he just knew she couldn't harm herself again - he couldn't let that happen. But now she was crying and while Synne's tears had been difficult enough to deal with, this was worse for while he still had no idea how to handle them, he also knew he was the cause...

Callista looked at him. She didn't want to not be mad at him, but he was lost and confused. She was hurt, but so was he. Before she knew what she was doing she was hugging him, crying gently on his shoulder. "Valzar..."

Valzar blinked in surprise at the situation he found himself in. "I don't understand..." he said quietly. He was uncertain of what had made her so upset or how he could remedy the situation.

I thought you'd understand the need for me to be free from that with you. The way you said it, it was like you were born to tell me what to do. You said it so quickly and roughly. It scared me. I don't want a relationship with you where you command and I do as you say."

"I know you didn't mean to scare me, Valzar. I know you didn't mean to command me either. I tried to touch your mind to see why it was so important that I not know about the vine. It was closed to me. I think that's what scared me the most, the thought that you didn't want me to know."
