its 4:20 because a huge group on british guys finished work at 40:0, so they would all meet in the park by 4:20, and smoke up.
It became a daily ritual, and eventually the police caught on, and would patrol the park at 4:20, anyone who was found with it was called in as a 4-20.
Thus it became common practice on the actual 4/20 to smoke weed.
It is also Hitler's birthday.
