Hello. Thanks for your interest in our alliance.

I hope you don't mind me asking you a few questions. All are fairly standard. I'm just trying to get a feel for who you are and what we can possibly expect from you in the future.

First, why are you considering joining HME?
Two, how active are you as a player?
Three, are you playing with a specific strategy in mind?
Four, what do you expect from HME? (This one is particularly important as I would be your nearest neighbor.)
Five, what should HME expect from you?
And lastly, under what circumstances would you consider leaving HME?

Thanks,
Andek

Mmm, I knew the sawmill would be worth my while.
Only level 3, and already a 100/hr increase.

Sadly, this is as much as i'll get done tonight.
As I stupidly agreed to head into work two hours early. gonk

Hi Andek,

I am new to Travian and I login two or three times a day. Being a new player, I don't have a specific strategy in mind.
I'm mainly interested in learning the strategy of the game. I have been concentrating on resource production. I only recently began to invest in a small group of units.

To that end, I've been reading the forums and it seems alliances are an important part of the game.

I am considering HME for three reasons. First, it is a strong alliance overall: currently ranked 79.

Second, it is well represented in our local area: you, Dragnil, Legions, and vincent are all close enough for fast mutual support.

Finally, from the alliance's profile page and communications that I've had with you, Arcadian and Black Keep, HME seems to be a mature group that is focused on the game.

My primary expectation from the alliance is to learn strategy and how to play effectively as part of the alliance.

I will contribute in whatever way I can. This probably means just resources and troops at first, but later on I hope to participate in strategy decisions.

I am looking for a long-term affiliation. I would consider leaving the alliance only in the event that it were abandoned by key members or if I were somehow betrayed by another member and it could not be resolved in a fair and reasonable way.

A little about myself: I am a 33-year old guy, live in Hawaii and work as a software developer. This is my first time playing a browser-based game. I used to play Warcraft3, which is an RTS. Since I have a desk job, it's easy to check Travian after I've checked my personal email.

I hope this answers all your questions. Can you tell me a little about you and HME and what would be expected from me? Why did you join HME and what is your strategy?

What is your evaluation of other towns in our local area?

Thanks,
majesticyeti

So... I want him in? Can you send an invite his way, Arc?

Majesticyeti,

I should probably begin by explaining the origins of the alliance as it tends to play somewhat into our current organizational structure. Arc has already provided a fitting summary on our alliance message board and rather than potentially confuse you with my own personal explanation, I will copy his:

"To explain the whole "Modist Empire" thing, most of us met on Gaia Online. Yes, yes, I know what most of you are thinking, but let me assure you that we're not a bunch of teenagers who can't function in society.

Those less humble than I would call us the creame of the crop.

In any case, there was a parody thread created on the forums of Gaia, called "DO YOU BELIEVE IN MOD?" This was to mock the incessant "Do you believe in God?" threads repeatedly made and 'argued' over. Mod stands for Moderator, and pretty soon the whole thing got out of control.

Essentially, we fight for those who run the site. Jokingly. Though it's good pretext for beating the crap out of stupid people, so go with it."

Many of the alliance's original members are also members of this community. Myself included. I, however, did not start playing the game until recently and consider myself to still be fairly new. Despite the majority of our members being "Modists," we also welcome people from outside the Gaia community with open arms so long as they display a reasonable amount of intelligence and maturity.

Before entering into the alliance, you should know that we have had a recent influx of new members, Legions and vincent being among these. While I am willing to personally vouch for the majority of our older members (who consequently consist of our most powerful), I have not had many direct dealing with the newer members in our area. On the other hand, I do not foresee any problems with them in the future.

As a member of HME, you would be expected to provide resources and troops (as you stated earlier) in times of war. However, if you are still a relatively small village you may be asked to concentrate on defenses during a time of war rather than risk becoming a potential farm. Arc is a rather skilled negotiator and has helped resolve any crises HME has faced thus far. As a result, you will most likely be left to your own devices unless you choose to involve yourself more deeply.

If you are unjustly attacked, the alliance will back you up as necessary. As your nearest potential ally, I am willing to send troops/supplies as fit. Similarly, we do ask that you refrain from provoking an attack that you cannot settle yourself. Also, any conflict that cannot be settled with diplomacy should be posted on the guild’s message board where one of our higher ranking members will either offer suggestions/attempt to reason with the player in question (or if need be talk to their alliance head)/or attempt another, more direct method of resolution. I do want to stress the fact that HME tends to push diplomacy more than an active showing of military power. But, if push should come to shove, we are more than capable than defending ourselves.

I should warn you that because HME is a high ranking alliance, we do face the possibility of getting into large scale conflict. At this time, we have an alliance with some RING branches and non aggression pacts with other larger alliances. While full scale conflict is rare, we have been threatened in the past and recently settled a dispute with DRUNKS, ending in some non-aggression pacts.

Consequently, I have chosen to play a more defensive position for my first village. High resource production and heavy defenses. I have a relatively small army at this time but if I were attacked, my cranny would sufficiently cover my resource supply. My intention is to overload my resource production and equip my village to produce foot soldiers at a very rapid pace when needed. Consequentially, my next villages will take on other specializations such as cavalry, siege, etc. and supplies/troops will be shipped between as needed.

For now, our area appears to be filled with players who are either under newbie protection or are allied. As such, raiding is a rather difficult proposition. And even then, the resource gain tends to be minimal. HME does appear to be rather dominant with relatively strong members in the area. As such, I am not overly concerned with being attacked by players in the region so much as I fear another alliance targeting ours do to our ever-increasing expansion. I assure you that we seldom do anything to provoke attack, but not all players are rational.

As you are neither allied nor under protection, you were targeted. I believe I sent one, rather unfortunate troop, to determine if you had any troop defenses built up while dragnil took a more direct approach. As you are under review for admittance, I have asked dragnil to cease raiding you until a decision is reached.

As for myself, I am an eighteen year old female college student on the east coast of the United States. I’m probably one of the youngest members of our alliance, but no less competent. I typically play more MMORPG based games, such as WoW, but am not entirely unfamiliar with browser based gaming. If you need me, I check Travian several times a day and reply fairly quickly.

At this time, I have asked that an invitation to join HME be sent to you. Unless the alliance asks for more specific information, I have nothing left to ask you regarding your desire to join. If you do have any further questions, feel free to send me a message.

scream Ouch, Alexi you grow so slowly! Activate the bonus on your resources, for the love of MOD! (I tried, but it wouldn't let me. I guess that's not within a sitter's realm of power).

You do now biggrin It as driving me nuts, I couldn't help myself.
Edit:
And I apologise for sending the scouts, but as they're not really defensive troops, I figured it would be okay.

Unrelated question: how do grammer rules apply to smileys? Can they substitute for punctuation, or are they sentances in of themselves?

I justify by a movie ticket being twice that, and only keeping me entertained for 2 hours.
Is anyone else having trouble logging in, or just me?
