 JOUSTIN'Perhaps she could get the hang of the weapon this time around. The saddle was faintly uncomfortable, but Amarus dealt with that pain by visualizing it as the pain of success. Or something. Mostly she tried not to think about it.
Quietly, Amarus leaned down and whispered to the wolf: "Maybe we could back up and try this again?"
Was one supposed to "back up" in jousting? Probably not. Did Amarus care? At this point, not really.

JOUSTIN'Unfortunately, she must have miscommunicated to the wolf, because instead of going back only two, it refused to move the next time. Mount difficulties, thank you.
At least it was giving her time to charge her attack, and figure out how to use this damn lance.
"I am not made for weaponry," she stated, her voice flat.
Perhaps she should have paid more attention to the demonstration. At least she wasn't riding a turtle or a jaguar... those seemed upsetting. Really, a wolf with its meat-eating tendencies suited her perfectly. Amarus was very happy about her mount. She leaned down to tell it so, in fact.
"Whether or not we take all day to do this, you are still my favourite of all these mounts," she told it. Why not?

JOUSTIN'It wasn't the worst day, really. Amarus thought that the wolf was going to continue to back up, but she leaned down and stroked its fur. "The faster we get a move on, the sooner we get steak," she told her mount.
Well, that seemed to spur it into a bit of action, at least. And her lance was sturdy, well-fixed.

JOUSTIN'There was nothing Amarus loved more than combat at any time of the day. Well, she loved it without hesitation; a part of her preferred the lotus-induced bliss that came from absolute happiness. She wasn't certain that it was a legitimate joy, however. It was merely her essence interacting with something similar enough that it comforted her and allowed her to calm down.
She wished she could still use her essence here, because perhaps it would help with the mount... The meat still seemed to be working, though. The wolf moved forward again.

JOUSTIN'And the wolf suddenly moved a lot faster, which also meant that Amarus wasn't quite prepared; she fumbled the lance, losing a bit of her steadiness, and then nearly dropped it, altogether ruining her current focus. She couldn't even use her kuji-kiri with something in her hands.
This was the part of the show where Amarus basically failed at life entirely. Better luck next time: she caught the point of the lance in the ground and had to somehow hang on, free the lance and get going again. All while the wolf was somehow still moving forward.

Amarus eyed the finish line desperately, sincerely hoping that they could make it there sooner rather than later. As much fun as jousting might be, this was a very long activity, and she just wanted to hit something.

JOUSTIN' The best part about War was that there was no incense. The other best part was that Amarus loved to fight. The third best part was that when she messed up, she only had to answer to herself; she didn't need to worry about detention, or being reprimanded. Instead of a punishment that wasted her time, her own failure was enough motivation to encourage her to learn to do better. This was the way she learned best. Amarus leaned low on her wolf, trying to make it easier on her mount to charge.

 JOUSTIN'it was a brand new day, and Melas was anxious to see what they would be doing with their mounts. That dragon that somehow decided to cooperate with him, it still had no name. it would have to be called Jericho JR. It seemed fitting. After a walk of the island and Jericho trying to shake him off occasionally, they reached what they called the jousting grounds. He watched with mild curiosity as the instructors galloped toward a target and smashed it with the lance. "Impressive." he whistled out, and they did it versus each other. Nice. The Dragon let out a yawn at the motion. Jericho JR was not impressed, not enough shinies around he figured. But it was their turn to go and give it a shot. "Cmon' Jer, don't let meh down here." he said calmly to the hefty beast that he tried to stay secure to and tapped his legs to its sides lightly. "let's go."
the hound barked out and then yelped helplessly as the dragon took a hefty step forward. he honestly didn't expect Jericho JR to listen immediately and almost dropped the Lance as a result. But it was progress and he was loving it. JOUSTIN' Would Rin, her wolf, be fine despite Amarus being a novice at riding absolutely anything? It was kind of difficult for her to balance the lance, too. Distracted by her own thoughts, Amarus held the lance right, but put no power behind it.

JOUSTIN' Amarus braced the lance against the saddle, seeing if that would help at all. It didn't hinder the wolf's movement, but in fact spurred it on. Amarus, however, found it very difficult to charge with the lance like that, so she lost some of its power again.

Jousting? Ah, Mort remembered Savage's class from before and grinned. Sure his mount was, well, an overgrown turtle essentially, but its shell would be a great asset against opposing weapons, right? She was a hardy one, with leathered green skin and strange spots on her golden shell that made it look as though she was wearing a pattern of skulls. Perhaps had she had been painted? Or maybe the species here really did look that neat . . .
Sadly, they were only charging a dummy. Charging. Mort forgot that tortoises, while different from turtles, were about as slow. Jack.
Mounting Kithka the Hardshelled Destroyer, as he was wont to name the gal, he tried to kick her sides like he'd seen people do to horses, hoping it'd get her going. Kithka retreated into her shell instead.

JOUSTIN' They would make it through this. They would make it through. Amarus started to focus on the sound of her bells to make this trip seem shorter. She wondered if it was really dragging on as long as it seemed, or if it was just a trick of perception. Somehow, focusing on the bells really helped her. The wolf and Amarus bounded towards the finish, her lance held steady and perfect, building up power.
