Armads the Doom Bringer

nice. I think mine was only 2 weeks, but we got a week for thanksgiving. Nothing like trying to take between 36-56 credits a year...
PostPosted: Tue Dec 18, 2012 5:39 am

I'm so excited! My birthday is coming up soon and I'm finally going to be able to celebrate it with friends this year instead of at home alone! Yay! That, and I'll now have time to come online more often after tests are over... So everything's turning out for the best! yum_puddi

Talk of high suicide rates and I wasn't invited!?

Koreans have high suicide rates because they are the ugliest of the Asians. That and they live with knowing they created K-Pop. (Cambodians would be the ugliest... but I don't want them winning anything.)

I'm actually going into Week 4 of the quarter... Not ending the semester with finals.

At my last college I was on the quarter system. First quarter ends sometime around thanksgiving right? If my math is correct then winter quarter for you ends in February?

So...

Back from hell.
And I think to catch up on my manga, right?
And then... I read that.

Screw you, Masashi Kishimoto. Upset doesn't even cover my feelings. crying

Yeah man, right in the feelings. But oh man, does the literature lover in me adore how it was done. It isn't passed over, it's dramatic, it's powerful, and it's not trivialized. At least, not the way it was done in the Pain arc. This time things actually have real weight behind them.

But, as much as I like it, I still feel really bad about it. Kishimoto has balls to do this to one of his most loved characters...

It is so painful a moment, but so great a moment in terms of writing and the last few chapters show how much he's improved.

Anyway, welcome back Proto! Glad you're back from hell.

Edit: Also, I'm craving to bring back Taiju. Or at least play a taijutsu character. Or at least, have something to do to get RP going around here again.

I have no idea what you're talking about, but now I'm dreading the manga.
This week I'm going to endure hell. 50+ hours of work, so I'm definitely working overtime for Christmas week.

I liked Taiju a lot. You should do it. He was the first character (that you made) that I interacted with.

Hyuuga Neji just died. ;_________;
Even worse, ****ing Obito killed him.
Let me grow mushrooms in the corner of my room now.

Good story? Really??? The one chapter Neji had more than 3 panels with his face on it, his death comes from nowhere. OH YES I'm SO GLAD he's SUCH a great knight to Hinata to his last moments....and that Naruto basically got blackmailed now to take care of Hinata...

Kishimoto doesn't know how to write a good story until The Uchiha problem kicks the bucket at the end of this manga. -____-

Well, now that the reveal has been done, I can properly explain what I mean.

The weight of the death comes from who it is, and the relation to the main character, in this case Naruto. In part 1, Neji is Naruto's rival, and he talks about how no one can avoid fate and how he will die whenever the clan demands it of him.

Cut to part 2, where he sacrifices himself, not for Hinata, who also jumped in front of Naruto, but for Naruto himself. This shows that while he could have done it to protect the main branch member Hinata, which in part 1 he would have said would have been expected of him, he decides instead to choose to do it in order to save Naruto himself. This allows him to understand what it means to choose his own time and place of death, as well as the reasons behind it. In essence, he is making his own fate by deciding when he is going to die.

That is setup, payoff, and execution. Is a very dramatic and well-written moment. What gives it weight is the history of the character, and the fact that his death plays so much into who he is.

Compare this to the Pain arc, where the deaths almost seemed frivolous in comparison; it's clear that since that point Kishimoto has learned a great deal and his writing has evolved. I would get into the weight that was put into the chapter before this when the HQ got nuked, but that's a whole other discussion on dramatic story telling.

Of course, if you had to pick a character to die there, Neji makes sense. Frog sage is dead, Tsunade is in two pieces last we saw, Gaara is out, haven't seen Kiba recently, Pain and Konan are dead, ect. Neji, as one of the principle antagonists of the first series, at least from an ideological standpoint, is now the tragic hero who has come beyond his own narrow-minded view of the world.

In essence, he has come full circle as a character, and it makes the most amount of sense that he would take that bullet. It shows that his old way of thinking has died, to make way for Naruto's new way of thinking.

*pats Proto on the back*

There there, I was there already, but for completely different reasons. Have a donut. yum_donut

No, I was a bit upset because we haven't gotten to see Team Gai's reaction yet, and i know that if the manga is true to form, we'll see Gai and Lee's reactions, and skip over Tenten's. Because we can't have a female character who is competent and emotionally stable.

What was I talking about again?

Oh yeah. It'll be alright proto. After all, now Neji doesn't have a swastika on his forehead anymore.

So, I suppose the question now is...
How should we start?

I guess rolling back on track with graduation will be a first base... neutral

Before that, besides Armads and Ty, who else is here?

Yup, that's about it. Oh, I have a friend that's working on his profile right now, and he'll join the rest of us in Konoha soon.. I think. I haven't seen anyone else around though... maybe we should send PMs to people who haven't been around for a while now?

Sent a pm to Love. Guess we'll just have to wait and see for her.
