"His name?"

But Ada was his name, wasn't it? There was a blurring of the memories, because she knew it was Ura who had planted the idea in her mind. Her Mummi still called Ada, Earendil, but she always figured that was just what Mummi called him.

"But he's Ada."

The others laughed. "Well, at least we have memories of her calling you E-dil," Leyenda grinned at Earendil. "Even if she doesn't."

Earendil chuckled. "Quite all right. Besides, if I am going to be her father, then that's just fine if she doesn't call me by anything else. As long as the people she's talking to knows who she's talking about."

Lin nodded at this in agreement, as long as everyone knows. He was technically her father anyways for all purposes.

"It was so cute," Lin murmured, "And her first word."

Miyuki though was completely confused staring at the grown ups. Not at all understanding what the big deal was, she went back to her food.

Grown ups can be kind of strange sometimes.

Earendil chuckled as Arwen brought him and Lin each a bowl of the porridge. "I think it surprised quite a few of us," he smiled, "especially as she hadn't had any sort of baby talk before that, either."

He started eating slowly, still in the process of waking up.

Amalirahc watched Miyuki curiously. He didn't know what the grownups were talking about either, just that it was something about Earendil and Miyuki and how he was her father. Maybe there was something weird about Earendil and Lin? Because they were talking as if maybe Earendil wasn't really Miyuki's father somehow ... and after all, Miyuki had said that her parents don't sleep together. So there was definitely something weird going on.

Also the circumstances surrounding Miyuki suddenly speaking was also surprising Lin had to admit when she began to eat her own food. She had to admit though, Miyuki probably got them both going on what they were feeling and thinking.

Miyuki wasn't aware of this, mainly because to her it was all straight forward. He was her ada and that was the end of the story. Of course Miyuki had grown up with this odd sort of relationship since she was a baby so she didn't think there was anything strange about it.

"What?" she did notice that her friend was watching her.

Amalirahc continued to stare at Miyuki. "Well ... I don't know, it sounds a bit funny, what they're talking about," he replied doubtfully. "It doesn't make sense, really."

He took another bite of his porridge and swallowed it thoughtfully. "They kind of make it sound like your ada isn't your real ada." He paused. "Do you have a different ada somewhere? Or did you used to have a different ada who's gone now?"

He knew that sometimes if a father died, the mother might find another father for the child. He had seen that happen before.

Miyuki to say the least was confused, she had never known another father beside her own. She didn't find anything unusual neither about what the adults were talking about. All kids called their ada different things, she observed this with her Grandpa.

"No, ada is my ada," she told her friend a matter of factly.

"Then what are they talking about?" Amalirahc puzzled. "Why did you used to call him E-dil instead of ada?"

He was growing more and more confused by the second, something he wasn't sure he liked.

"Because he is my E-dil, but ada sounds better," Miyuki told Amalirahc.

No one had ever told Miyuki to call Earendil ada, so she couldn't explain it. She just grown up saying that.

"Mummi calls him E...Ea-ren-dil."

Amalirahc nodded. "That's his name," he told Miyuki. "That's what my Mama and Ada call him, too. And me, too. Earendil. But that's because he's not our ada. So we call him his name."

At least he could give an explanation of why his parents were his parents. As far as he could tell, Miyuki's reason was 'because', which didn't make any sense to him.

"Oh...."

That for some really odd reason had never occurred to Miyuki at all. She tilted her head a bit, and still didn't see the big deal about it all.

"Is that strange?"
PostPosted: Sun Jun 06, 2010 7:20 pm

"Well, if he's your E-dil, then is that the same as being your ada?" Amalirahc pointed out. "Because that means you used to call him his name, and people don't call their ada by their name. That's why it's weird."

It didn't make any sense to him. It just plain didn't.

"But some of the aunts and uncles call Grandpa by his name," Miyuki pointed it out.

Which was why she didn't think as this as such as strange thing. It was perfectly normal, as normal as not looking a thing like her ada.

Amalirahc stopped with his spoon halfway to his mouth and stared at Miyuki. "They do?"

That really didn't make any sense to him. He had never heard anything like it before.

"Why?"

Miyuki shrugged, "I don't know, they just do. Most call him "father" but some of them don't."

It was quite obvious Miyuki wasn't the type to dwell on such questions. She just seemed to accept this as a matter of fact.
