Celeborn nodded and led the way off into the trees.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, Adanedhel was eagerly running through the ranch house, looking for Lin.
"Lin!" he called, cupping his hands around his mouth as he ran from the dining room to the play room. "Where are you? It's time for us to go!"

"I'm coming!" Lin was hurrying down the steps.
After all her mother wanted to make sure Lin had everything in order before going.

Adan grinned and ran to the bottom of the stairs to wait for Lin.
"Come on, Ara-kun's waiting outside and he says we can be up on the mountain for the whole day if we go quickly!" he urged her. "He says he's gonna teach us tracking if you want to learn!"

Now that was something new she hadn't really tried. After all she had never truly tracked before.
"Okay!"
She hopped down the last two steps.
"Let's go then!" she giggled as she hurried out the door.

Aragost was indeed waiting for the children just to one side of the door, and as they darted outside he fell silently into step behind them.
"If you expect to have enough energy for the full day," he murmured as Adan ran ahead, "you should conserve what you have for the moment. You will need it later."
Adan stopped in his tracks and whirled around. He hadn't known that Aragost would be that close.
"I'll be okay!" he boasted. "I'm used to going up there all the time!"

Lin thought about it, if it was anything like the mountain back in the Southland she could see that. Also there wouldn't be stairs like there was over there. No... no she wouldn't want to fall down there most of all.
"Alright..." she murmured after a thought.

Aragost smiled to himself, pleased with Lin's sensibility. Yes, she would do just fine, he decided.
"This way," he murmured, starting off towards the east. "It is a long walk before we ever reach the mountain, so we should get started if we hope to be back before dark."
And if they wanted to get anything at all accomplished.

Lin followed matching her pace with Aragost's though that meant a quick walk for her. After all she was small, and he was... well tall. As if to state the obvious there.
"What is it like up there?"
Since she knew that the last one she had been on had been changed to suit the people who trained up there. So this was going to be far different, and she couldn't resist asking.

Aragost pondered Lin's question for a moment. There were so many ways to answer, as usual, but this one was a bit different, because it was ... more personal. After all, he could simply tell about what she would see, or what he felt up there, or how Adan acted ... but even all of that together, or all taken separately, could not, would not tell exactly what it was like up there.
"It is beautiful," he replied finally. "And peaceful, like few places are anymore ... there are many places where no one has been in a very long time ... a number of wild animals ... crags and bluffs ... plateaus and ridge ..."
But did that really explain what it was like?
"It ... is an experience different for everyone," he added thoughtfully, his long cloak billowing behind him as he walked, "and as such ... it is ... difficult to describe."

"Oh... so it's one of those, you have to see for yourself sort of things," Lin mused.
Well then she would have to go up and see for herself what it's like up there. After all if that was the case, it was the only proper way to do things.

Aragost smiled softly and nodded.
"Exactly," he agreed in his soft, deep voice. "As usual, you are quite astute, Lin."
At least, that was how he saw her.

Lin tilted her head in the very fashion that always marked her as a bit confused and ready to shoot off another question at a moment's notice. While she wasn't sure what the word meant (after all she didn't even know the word inquisitive before) she was sure it had to do with something she said. However.... she couldn't understand what she had said to warrent such a comment. After all it made sense, if a person could not describe what something looked like, then you had to see it for yourself.
It would be just pointless as asking Elros what it was like living in the First Age. Quite unfortunately she couldn't live in the First Age, so that was quite impossible to find out what it was like back then.
Still, she had no idea what he had meant, though it might help if she understood what he was talking about.
"What's astute?"

Aragost looked down at Lin and smiled.
"It means that you are intelligent," he replied, sounding somewhat proud of her for some reason, "and that you pick up on things quite quickly ... that you are a bright and eager student ... that you notice things easily."
Yes, astute indeed.
"You will go far," he murmured, "if you continue as you are now."

Lin didn't really see what was so intelligent about that, after all she had asked those types of questions before. She knew already what the answer to a type of question like that would be.
It was experience not intelligence that made her not ask further on the subject. Though she had to admit, if she kept asking questions, how far would she go?
"I suppose...." Lin mused thoughtfully.

Nearly an hour later, the ground began to slope upwards. Adan strode forward confidently, not at all bothered by the sudden change, as if he knew exactly where they were going.
"Slow down a bit, Adanedhel," Aragost called out softly. "Lin may need a bit of time to adjust her way of walking."
Considering, after all, that they were suddenly walking up a slope that would grow steadily steeper.
