that is quite flimsy, you'd be hard pressed against something that could overpower/overrun your assault troops in close combat, like say tyranids or horde based ork armies

Without any tanks and vehicles in your army Kuroda, then you are at risk of getting shot to shreds and surrounded by close combat armies. I chose what i chose because they have a thump. My troops go in close, drop pod bangs on to where the claws are needed, and the hunters will come in the rhino and shoot something. If you want to add your wolf guard to your squads, i suggest you add a heavy weapon. Add extra nastiness to the squad.

My army also has 'thump' as anyone stupid enough to surround my army will find a great gaping hole in their forces next turn due to 20 blood claws and 2 psykers worth of fury. Njal stormcaller on his own is capable of standing in the middle of a tyranid army and blasting a large hole in it. In essence my army can overrun anything short of a horde army with pure brute force, given the right tactics of course. In the case of horde armies i have to be slightly more cunning but it still turns out the same way.
The reason i dont give my guard heavy weapons is that my army is required to stay relatively mobile, adding heavy weapons would render my squad leaders practically useless. the nastiness is in the extra power weapons and plasma shots that will eat away at armoured targets my normal troops can't quite handle.

I'd rate the BA over the SW list - why? because of sanguinary priests and grail in the sanguinary guard give them FNP, and jump packs give them mobility. And foot slogging wolves are prone to being badly shot by Tau or IG.

I think i'd go for Dante's SW list as it has the mobility of a drop pod and Rhino, as well as the deep striking terminators dropping into the fray where they are needed. Although i would drop Arjac Rockfist for another unit of troops for 200 something points.

bear in mind that the BA force is 250 points more than the SW lists, he'd have to drop one of his squads, probably one of the assault squads, and some wargear. If any of you live near me i will happily play a game and we can see how our theories work in practice.

I dont know if Space Wolves can use the Deep Strike rule with Terminator Armour. In the book it talks about how the Space Wolves choose to follow in Leman Russ' example and just charge into the fight from the ground.
Now i could take a troops choice, drop Rockfist, although i've made the model and i want to use him. I can take a second unit of Grey Hunters, 2 flamers and a Rhino transport. Add another 1000 points to the army and i'm adding a unit of Thunderwolf Cavalry, and a Wolf Lord on a Thunderwolf to back them up.

I like this =D I'm looking into getting bikes in my army in bigger games, possibly getting the white scar bikers and converting them into a wolf lord and swiftclaws.

Believe me, it's very hardpressed, granted i've only faced space marines with it so far, but when they get the drop on me, it tends to not fare very well. IN addition, the lack of heavy infantry killers is a problem, i had to upgrade it to a 1750 list to add in a vindicator to give it some dedicated heavy infantry killer

That makes sense, i can't really suggest anything cos i know very little if anything about the new blood angels codex.

Bikes are good, although it depends on the roll they will play in the battle. For me the Thunderwolves will be used as my hit and run and a unit to tie up objectives. I've down graded my first Wolf Lord and made him into a Wolf Guard Battle Leader, and a second Wolf Lord on the Thunderwolf. I've also included a unit of Fenrisian Wolves, a Rune Priest and a further unit of Blood Claws in a Rhino Transport

I'd recommend taking a Dreadnought in place of a Vindicator. You have an armoured walking gun base. Give it a twin linked lascannon and you have an anti armour busters. I would also consider taking Death Company, and Tactical Marines instead of just Assault Marines.

Btw Dante, what are you going to be making your Thunderwolf Cavalry from? Are you using Canis Wolfborn as a base for all 4 of them, or something different?

I intend on using Canis Wolfborn as the basis for my lord, although there are a few changes to be made first, but all in good time. The three members of the Cavalry will be made from the upcoming plastic blood crushers. If my memory serves correct, in the Space Wolves codex, it talks about mechanical wolves, so i figured the Blood Crushers would make a good start.
