The Chamberlain put out a hand to catch Kiro's shoulder and sniffed disdainfully at the arrogant youth,"I believe Lord Valenti instructed you to recieve your papers from me upon leaving the interview," he said snidely, and placed a large envelope in Kiro's hands. "Inside you will find everything you need. A map to your mission destination and the likeness of your target are included inside." He sniffed again and turned on his heel before walking away.

William abandoned his breakfast and followed Matt and Ty as the two of them headed for the Arena. Will made sure to inform a guard to run to Kimiko and have her come to the Arena as well. He was sure that this friendly sparring match was going to end with some serious injuries. The three of them walked their way across the grounds, up to, and into the Arena. They rode the elevator up to one of the top floors, where most of the biggest rings were. They exited the elevator on the top floor, which was domed in thick glass. There was only a single ring on this level, and it was the largest in the Arena. Their were tiered benches arrayed around the ring with an open area between them and the ring itself, which was enclosed in a huge, polished, steel cage. The cage was disassembleable, for when the Corps. put on competitions. The crowds generally found it more appealing to not have bars in the way, and more exciting knowing that the fighters they were watching could come flying into their midst. William took a seat near the top of the benches, about as far from the ring as he could get. He had little faith that those bars would contain these particular two fighters, and he didn't want a front row seat when he was proved right. Matt and Tyrone walked to the ring and let themselves in. Tyrone came in second, and latched the door securely behind them. They took positions opposite each other and began warming up. Will was watching this with interest. He had seen both of these Hunters fight many times, but that was always in a friendly sparring manner. As two of the most powerful Hunters in the Corps. He knew they would be testing themselves against each other. This would be a very serious, very real, battle. While these thoughts were swirling in Williams mind a Guard led Kimiko to him. "Thank you." She said to the Guard as he left and she took a seat next to Will. "What do you think?" Will asked her. "They're excited. And determined. I think I can see that Ty is... worried... though." Kimiko responded, gazing intently at the two fighters. "Worried about what?" "I'm not really sure. He doesn't seem to be concerned for his own wellbeing, though. I can only guess that he's afraid of hurting Matt." "After all that boasting he's still gonna hold back?" "I guess we'll just have to wait and see." Kimiko replied. Down in the ring the two warriors had finished their stretches and warm ups. They took their stances, and prepared to do battle.

Kiro entered the cafeteria to find it quite empty and lacking the members of his team. "Hmm, I have a feeling I know where they could be at least..." Kiro mumbled while fidgeting with the envelope the Chamberlain gave him and headed toward the area.

There was tremendous crashing clanging sound as Tyrone swung his huge sword at Matt, and the armored warrior simply put is hands out to catch the blade. Matt's heavy gauntlets withstood the assault, taking not even a dent, though maybe a scratch to the paint job. The force of the swing pushed Matt back a foot or two, though he stayed on his feet. "Haha!" Matt crowed, "Not as easy as it used to be, huh?" "We'll see," Tyrone said. Tyrone stepped into Matt's range of attack, reversing his grip on his sword as he did. He threw his weight against the younger fighter and, catching Matt by surprise, knocked him to the floor. Matt quickly rolled to one side and hauled himself back to his feet. He was just in time to notice that Tyrone had reversed his grip again and was bringing the massive weapon sailing in from the opposite direction this time. Matt threw his arms up before him, catching the blow against the backs of his gauntlets. He was thrown again but managed to roll over backwards this time and come up in a low crouch, with his feet under him. Tyrone followed him the whole way and was already swinging again by the time Matt completed his roll. A powerful overhead swing that was more than capable of splitting the younger Hunter in half. Matt again barely noticed the incoming attack in time. This time he was braced and ready. He crossed his gauntlets above his head and took the full force of the blow, feeling it vibrate down through his arms and into his shoulders and back. He took the blow though, then, gathering himself, he burst up to his feet and pushed the sword off of himself. Tyrone was caught off guard by Matt's choice of reaction. He had guessed that he would dodge instead of taking the force of the blow. When Matt force himself up Ty's sword was thrown up and over his head. Matt stepped right up to Ty, closing the distance between them to only a foot. He grinned, and started his assault. Punches hammered against Ty's ribs one after another. Matt was in his comfort zone here, up close inside his opponent's defenses, where he could freely wreak havok. That is until Ty brought the pommel of his sword down onto his shoulder. "Holy crap." William said, observing from up in the stands. "They're gonna tear each other apart." "And they're both still holding back." Kimiko said

Emma cocked her head to side as she watched events unfold. She knew where this was going. Train could see it too. Though he felt insulted that William would still call for Kimiko when he was standing right there. Isaac of course had no idea what was going on, he was still trying to chew. The woman chuckled as everyone started leaving to watch the fight, it certainly would be quite the spectacle. "Am I invisible or something? Everyone thinks I'm blind and yet I'm ignored for that helpless dolt." Train complained as he snatched a few pieces of toast from his tray on his way out.
Emma took care of her own things and tucked a bottle of mead in her armor. She looked at Isaac, not really wanting to leave the poor boy behind. Taking a small cloth used to wipe their faces she grabbed two pieces of salted ham, separating it from the rest of the food. Picking Isaac up she tossed him over one shoulder and brought the ham with her to the arena. It would probably hurt his pride a little, when he realized that Emma was carrying him around, but it would be better than leaving him at the mercy of all the other hunters and guardians of the corps.
Train had decided to stand on the other side of William, putting him between him and Kimiko. Emma arrived with Isaac just as Matt hit the floor. "Oh good, they're off to a good start." She said as she set Isaac down in one of the seats. "Push through boy, if this is how you get then when the good missions come along they'll kill you. Eat. You're not finished." Emma ordered as she put the ham in his hands. Reluctantly he raised it to his mouth and continued eating, not that what he was doing in the Mess Hall could really be considered eating.
"Any bets yet? Mine's on Tyrone. Even I can have trouble with him."

Kiro had come along just behind Emma, hearing her last words. He put his hand on Emma's shoulder, "I'll bet you anything you want that Matt will win this one" and then Kiro walked up to sit on the empty side of William. He hunched forward a little and watched Matt and Tyrone go at it with a lazy expression that sort of looked like he just woke up.
Kiro's limp arm raised up enough just to set the papers of the next mission details on William's lap. "We got another one..." Kiro stated in a boring tone. It seemed like Kiro was in a daze of some kind ever since last night.
"Tyrone has gotten kinda rusty last I remember..." Kiro mumbled quietly.

((You kinda sat on Train there Kiro... We'll just assume that you squeezed your way in between them))
"Everyone has trouble with Ty." William said in response to Emma. "So either Matt's gotten that much better, or Tyrone's having a really off day. Kimiko?" "He looks frustrated, kind of. It's hard to tell. His emotions are really... contained." Kimiko said. Matt tried to roll with the hit and reduce the impact, but he had been in midswing when it connected. He came back up in a low crouch and rose to his feet. He could tell right away that something in his shoulder was wrong. He couldn't move his arm very well at all. It would barely support its own weight. And he was simply gritting his teeth through the explosions of pain that were firing through it as he tried. Matt didn't have long to test his newly lessened capabilities, though, for Tyrone was on him again in a flash. He brought his huge sword across in a left handed cross-body swing. Matt dropped to one knee and brought his armored forearm up at an angle to guide the blade up and over his head. Once the blade cleared Matt and was on his left side Ty released the swords grip with his left hand. He brought his right arm swinging across and caught the handle of the massive blade as he did, applying momentum along with his own massive strength to reverse the direction the weapon and bring it swinging in at Matt from his left now. There was no way Matt could dodge the swing in time, so he simply twisted his hips to bring his upper body in line with the swing. He raised his arm again to intercept, though this time he did not have the time or the room to guide the blade. He simply caught it dead on. The force of the impact lifted Matt from the ground and carried him along with the blade. At the apex of the swing he was thrown clear and flew several feet before coming back down to the ground. He rolled and bounced a few more feet before he collided violently with the cage back first. "Ready to call it yet?" Ty asked. He stood with his sword held up, resting over one shoulder. Matt reached up and grabbed the bars of the cage with his one good hand and hoisted himself back to his feet. He took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly. Then he slammed his left shoulder into the bars of the cage. There was an audible pop, and Matt let out something that was half scream half roar. When he turned back to Ty he was no longer grinning. His fists erupted into flame. "Not quite ready yet, Ty." Matt said as he began to slowly walk towards him. Up in the stands William watched with fascinated horror. "I told you this wasn't going to end well."

"He's pulling his punches a bit. Kimiko... His emotions are so contained because he's forcing it..." Train declared. He had set aside his hatred for the blind woman for now. Besides, depending on how the fight went he might have to work with her and Emma to fix everything.
Emma however, ignored him. "Tyrone's not getting rusty. Without his fire he was even starting to struggle a little with the whelp." Emma said, indicating Isaac, who started to make a little noise at being called whelp. "True he was going kind of easy, but that's not the point." Noticing that Kiro had given William papers, she assumed what they were for. "Remember what I suggested earlier." Emma didn't plan on forcing the issue. She just wanted to make sure that William really thought it through. She still didn't like to see or know that her friends were dying unneeded deaths.
As Matt put on his angry face, Emma grinned. "Nonsense William. This is when it gets good. But uh... Kimiko and Train, be ready to hinder both of them. Kiro and Will, one of you may also want to be ready."

Matt stopped advancing when he was just outside of the range of Ty's sword, which given the size of the sword was still a fair distance. Ty had not moved, but the muscles of his arm were bunched, ready to swing his sword with all power at a moments notice. "Dear god, I can't watch this anymore." Will said up in the stands. He had no problems watching a friendly sparring match, in fact he rather enjoyed it. But as far as he was concerned, this was getting a bit too serious. "Somebody tell me when they're done." He said, and spun around in his seat to face the opposite direction. He opened the file Kiro had given him and began to peruse. Down in the ring the two Hunters stood facing each other, both waiting for the other to make the first move. Screw this, I never was the patient type. Matt thought. The flame fisted Hunter darted to one side, a quick shift and then switched back towards Ty. Ty responded with an immediate swing of his massive sword, left to right, across his body. thinking to knock the other Hunter back again and keep him where his fists would do him no good. Even as the sword began moving Matt flared his fires up around his entire body, just a quick flash, and allowed them to extinguish themselves as they rose away from him. He dropped into a low crouch, keeping one gauntlet up to cover his face in case he was still too high. He had been counting on the flash of his flames to temporarily blind Ty to his movements, but it had done the same to him. He heard the huge sword swoosh by overhead. Matt leapt forward and closed the distance between himself and Ty again. He swung in hard, igniting his fists as he did. He made a heavy impact on the first swing, his fist crashing against Ty's ribs and leaving scorch marks on his jacket. Ty was caught off guard by Matt's use of his flames as a mere distraction, and again by the first jarring impact of his fist. Ty knew he would take more of the same before he could break away again, too. He rolled the handle of his massive sword over in his hand, reversing his grip, taking more hits at the same time, and then swung in with the weapon, pommel first. Matt had anticipated this, not intending to fall for the same trick twice. He brought his left arm up and caught the pommel directly on the guard on his forearm. Ty smiled, he had anticipated Matt's anticipation and used his sword pommel attack as a feint. The real attack fell while Matt was swinging in with his other fist again. Tyrone's own fist, his left, came up in a quick uppercut, catching Matt directly on the chin. Matt fell back, barely maintaining his footing as his tears filled his eyes. He blinked them away just in time to feel a hand grab him by his bruised jaw and crank his head back down a bit. Ty jerked Matt's head by the chin so that he was looking almost directly at him, then lunged forward and slammed his forehead into Matt's face. Matt fell back, this time all the way to the floor. If he had thought his eyes had been watering before he had not had long to wait to be proven wrong. He could feel blood flowing down his face from his nose. He exhaled, breathing out small flames, and sealing the burst veins in his nose in the process. He blinked the tears out of his eyes again just in time to see that Ty wasn't going to be cutting him any breaks this time. Tyrone descended upon Matt with a heavy overhead swing. Matt rolled, barely making it out of the way as the blade slammed into the ground, smashing and cutting into it. He threw himself to his feet at the same time that Ty stepped in towards his sword. Ty now stood on the opposite side of his blade from Matt, near to the base of the grip. He levered the blade out of the floor and then pulled on the grip, using his own body as a fulcrum. The blade lashed out towards Matt, Ty turning it as it did so that it was aimed edge first. Matt had just enough time to prepare himself. He waited until the blade was almost upon him and dove at it slamming both fists down on it in a double hammerfist, driving the blade down towards the ground again. He rolled over the blade as he pushed it down. He was relying on Ty's strength to keep the blade stable enough for such a maneuver, but his faith was well placed. Ty refused to relinquish his sword and Matt rolled over it to his feet on the other side. He landed with both feet on the ground and brought his forward momentum down, collecting it, then reversed it's direction bringing his right fist up in a right hook with his entire weight behind it. The blow struck square on the side of Tyrone's jaw and even he, the strongest of the Hunters, was thrown back by the weight of the punch. Ty hit the ground several feet from where he had just been standing, landing on his back, his sword making a tremendous crashing sound as it, too, hit the floor. Damn. He's good... Ty thought as he lay on the ground, looking up at the ceiling. Ty rolled to one side and began pushing himself to his feet. Matt still stood where he had been when he counterattacked. He stood tall, shoulders back, defiance in his eyes, and also a gleam of exhilaration. Ty rose to his feet and swung his sword back behind his body, preparing it for maximum swinging force. Matt's right fist burst into brilliant blazing flame. The two of them eyed each other for another moment before they both burst into a sprint, full speed, at each other. Matt drew back his fist and Ty gathered his strength. As they closed they both struck out, fist thrusting and blade swinging. Matt brought up his left fist to intercept Ty's attack again. The two attacks hit. Matt's fist connecting with Tyrone's face again, just underneath his eye, and Ty's sword striking Matt across the armguard again. Both Hunters were thrown back by the impact. Ty flew back and landed on his back again. Matt was thrown against the cage bars again. Neither moved from where they landed. "Had enough yet?" Matt asked from where he was slumped up against the bars of the cage. "I'll never have enough." Ty responded from where he lay. "Should we continue, then?" "Another time, I think." "I agree. This could probably go on for quite a while." "Yes. You are much stronger than the last time we fought." "Told ya." "I'm gonna have to start training seriously again, before you surpass me." "And I'll just have to keep training even harder then, to make sure I do."

(William finds inside the file a few pieces of parchment. One includes the description of one junior hunter Gregory Thames, another is the mission brief, telling Kiro and his chosen party to retrieve Gregory and find out if the claims of fiend sightings at a place called Yule's Crossing are true, and yet another piece appears to be a rough drawn map showing the location of Yule's Crossing.)

Kiro sat silently as the battle between Matt and Tyrone ended. As I sort of thought, sparring is kind of pointless unless one is trying to learn from the other. You can't go all out either unless you're both prepared to die too. Gah, not my kind of thing.
"The match is over William. So, what do you think of the mission? I picked Issac and you to go with me. They even gave me a choice to go it alone." Kiro spoke to William.

Will glanced back over his shoulder where he could see both Matt and Ty. "Well, at least they didn't kill each other. Or dismember, or grievously or fatally wound one another. Looks like they actually played nice... For the most part." Will turned back to the file he had been glancing over. It was pretty sparse. Just a scouting mission, really. But now it was a search and rescue mission, apparently. "Well, I don't know if going it alone would have been a good idea. I'm up for it, though I don't know if Isaac is. I think we'd have to tie him to his horse. Maybe you should pick someone else, or we could just go ourselves."

"Well, I'm all for doing some more missions with our new team. I just don't think Isaac's going to be up to it today. If we put off our departure till tomorrow, then maybe. But this is potentially a rescue mission, so time isn't something we should be wasting." William said. Kimiko was down in the ring, examining Matt. Ty had refused to be examined, claiming the he was fine. Kimiko laid her hands on Matt's head, one on each side, against his temples. She expanded her awareness, exploring his body. She could see his aura, and now feel it as well. She quickly ascertained the areas that were damaged most. She started manipulating his aura, localizing his bodies own natural healing abilities, causing his own body to heal itself faster. The area of greatest concern was his shoulder. It was swelling already and should have been almost completely unusable for some time. With a concentrated healing, though, Matt would probably be back to full strength in a couple of days.
