You walk through the dark, shadowed forest. In the middle of a clearing, with one single ray of light centered on it, is a mirror. What do you see when you look at it?
I see my reflection - I see who I really am inside.
I see who I have become - all my past efforts and endeavors roll before my eyes.
I see potential - the future, with all its possibilties, becomes clear to me.
I see my inner demons. I recognize them, so that I may conquer them.
I see darkness; the mirror is not a mirror, but a window to my soul.
I see someone else - the mirror is not a mirror, but a window, showing me my heart's true desire.
I refuse to examine the mirror. It is an illusion - I do not need it to tell me what I already know.

"how rude..." Clem growled to no one in particular as he and Leonard moved to a scrying mirror to locate Raedou.

The biologist placed the bottle with the air on a small table with a red gem. "Gravity Mines Air Sample" he said slowly into the gem. the table glowed and the bottle vanished.

(The table is a teleporter for objects, there is one in every room, so Ephlas can ask for it wherever he wants it in an Academy building, provided he has the table.)

Ephlas grabbed the sample of air when it appeared where he had gone, and went directly over to a machine which had a sole purpose of examining magical concentration in objects.

A phial full of air wasn't an ideal sample, but with a gaseous substance, you took what you could get.

"Andhyme Resesector," Ephlas muttered. It wasn't magic, however.

The machine began with prompting, analyzing the state of matter inside the phial. Ephlas was very perturbed with the results.

Jaeto snapped out of his trance like state when he was suddenly asked the very serious, personal question. "W-what? No. Calisto is a prince. A boy!" He began sweating as he looked around the caravan. Parrault seemed to be the only one who was curious. The rest of the group kept their silence which ment that they'd already figured he'd been lying. He sighed and hung his head. "Cal is... a girl. She was born out of wedlock. She acts and dresses like a boy to protect herself. Since the king passed away, her people refused to accept her because they don't see her as a true member of the royal family... That's why we're running away. So they don't rise up and kill her." He took a deep breath to calm himself. His face was red and he immediately regretted telling the princess' secret since he barely knew these people but he had no choice. "You guys have to keep this a secret, though!"

The prince is a princess? Farfarello thought, not having heard Jaeto's slip up the first time. This, however, didn't change his plans in the slightest. Prince or princess, either will work. He was glad no one here was a mind reader. "Sounds to me like she needs a good bodyguard. Poor girl."

The caravan was heading into the desert? Along this route, there could be only one destination - the underground desert prison facility, Dragorath.

Myrrelda knew all about Dragorath. It was the closest place to hell. With glee, she veered away from the caravan and flew straight over the mountains, towards the looming prison facility.

Dragorath, you see, was a complex facility that could, by ancient machinery and magic, rise in and out of the desert, like a giant screw that was drilled into the ground.

Except it was desert, in this case. As soon as anyone realized that there was going to be an attempted jail break, the entire prison would immediately sink below the surface of the sand. Myrrelda knew all this, but she didn't quite care if she was trapped down there too.

It would be quite fine, if Farfarello was trapped as well.

With a chuckle, Myrrelda landed on the tall, imposing structure. Its side were unclimbable - being sharp and jagged, for 'drilling' into the sands below.

The structure was also Horde-proof. It was built mainly out of a special kind of stone-material, this being almost toxic in nature. To the Horde, it was toxic, though only a huge amount such as this building was comprised of could keep away anything more than the flies.

Myrrelda settled down on the tip of the (many floors tall) prison, content to wait for Farfarello to come to her. The toxic rock, apparently, didn't harm her.

Jaeto fell silent. He didn't feel like shouting back at the demon, proclaiming that he was supposed to be her bodyguard. But he hadn't done a very good job and wouldn't leave himself open to criticism. The air was hot and dry. They'd be getting to the prison soon.

~

A loud bang woke Calisto up from her exhaustion induced slumber. "Wake up, girly!" a guard shouted at her. He banged his baton against the iron bars of her cell again and Cal covered her sensative ears. "It's time to get to work! This hotel ain't free!" He laughed and opened her cell. Cal was dragged out by a second guard and pushed into a line-up of other prisoners.

"Alright maggots. Get yer pick-axes and yer shovels and follow the tunnel down to the south wing." The prisoners grumbled as they did as they were told. As they walked slowly in a line, the guard kept shouting at them. "You will NOT take a break unless instructed to do so! You will NOT speak to another prisoner unless instructed to do so! You will obey EVERYTHING that you are told by the guards or else! Work starts in 10 minutes, once we reach the south wing! Work ends when I SAY it ends! That could be in 2 hours, or 20 hours! And NO WHINING!"

((Cruel guards... and I went and picked a prison out of the Final Fantasy series - I'll change all that stuff about going underground if you don't like it.

xDDD))
PostPosted: Sun Jan 04, 2009 1:44 pm

((Hold the phone... I thought that the prison was named Actaeon, and it was a secret underground bunker with a buried trap door as it's entrance. Has there been a change of plans?))

((Oh, and am I the only one who noticed that Callisto clearly looks like a girl in her new disguise picture?))

((Sorry for all of the OOC posts, but just one more thing... to answer zfatal's question, yes, it was a group of bandits. I assume you all remember Leider? Well, that was a perfect opportunity to bring Xascher's character back into the story, but he completely ignored it. crying ))

Perrault just kept smiling.

"Well, I guess we need to save her now more than ever since she's a princess, huh?" he said calmly, "Can you tell me about her?"

-----

Raedou listened to their conversation, but kept silent. They would be coming upon the desert soon, and already the great city of Rantuinne was shining in the distant sands... along with the corpses of a few dead colossi (yes, they are THAT big). Raedou turned to his companions.

"We're at the desert..." he said, "Prepare for an unpleasant and bumpy ride."

Sure enough, the caravan soon rattled up and down and left and right, riding over rocks and dunes and the occasional Horde beast. Ackune seemed to be doing fine, but the ride was giving the Ganzi a headache.

-----

Mistraltz looked in disgust at the dead behemoth, but soon shook his head to returned his focus at Dakon.

"I cannot believe that the Ganzi still exist!" he said, "Master Dakon, are you as amazed as I am?!"

-----

Diine crept into a somewhat large room where three people stood, talking to eachother. One of them was Valthere Ores, sitting in his throne. He turned around and put his finger to his mouth at Emerelda.

"Shush!" he whispered, "Lord Valthere is right there! Keep quiet or he'll have our heads!"

Emerelda shook her head and began to tiptoe into the throneroom, hoping for somewhere to sleep in the hallway opposite to the one they were in now. With a little luck, Valthere wouldn't notice her...

((Sorry for the lame Mistraltz post; I couldn't think of anything better to say.))

((Well.. it could have two different names. Actaeon and... whatever I said. They're both still underground, are they not? I'm a little surprised that you're trying to cross the desert so fast, but maybe I just don't know what 'Ackune' is capable of.))

Dakon turned and gave Mistraltz a curious glance. "The Ganzi never ceased existing. They left our continent... and, apparently, some went underground. That would explain a couple of things...." This last sentence was spoken more to himself, rather than to Mistraltz.

"The Library. I must go there."

Dakon immediately left for the city, in search of Aria and Vinn.

~

Ephlas took the information provided by the machine and left the room, to enter another room farther down. In here, was a library full of information on the arcane.

"The air... it's all about the air," Ephlas murmured to himself. "The gravity, the stones... it doesn't only affect gravity...."

"Err- Sir Dakon, wait for me!" called Mistraltz as he ran after the Sand Master.

((One liner... crying I have to wait for my fellow caravaneers to post.))

Hashmal said nothing, just looked out to the sands as she reminisced about the past.

"-too dangerous! Horde live in that area!" a reptilian called across a massive chamber filled with others of the same type. Another one stood on a poduim, answering, "Neverless, the facility must be constructed. The best engineers, both Ganzi and Draon have worked on this design, a shifting fortress for the sands. The Archives are already a success."
"But each day the Horde gains more ground senator! We cannot devote our resources to such foolish plans!"
"I stand resolute in this. The facility will be constructed as a forward base, sustainable by itself as long as it is manned."
"It will not last..." A figure in black armor spoke, "The Horde are winning... and you are too blind with ambition to see it."
"Hashmal! How did you enter this chamber?" The creature on the podium gasped, "Access is-"
"I know I was forbidden to enter, but you need to listen to the people... they are indeed losing this war... The alliance with the Ganzi is merely slowing the inevitable. The cities are dying, The gravity mines have lost their yield... Your fortress will be a relic in the sands, to be used by others."

Hashmal instantly snapped back from the Draon council chamber turning her head towards the Ganzi, "Where exactly are we headed?"

---

Their words echoed across the room, aided by the acoustics of the chamber. Valthere then decided to use his favorite trick as he heard their voices. As they moved in the shadows, he shouted, "What do you two think you are doing?!"

"Food, Perrault, food!" Farfarello demanded. "And what's this princess like anyway?" The demon scratched his horns on the inside of the caravan, leaving small scratch marks on the wood. With his hands he played with the executioner's bow and his tail twitched (not unlike a cat's). He couldn't stop moving. For some reason Farfarello was restless, and he liked to blame it on food...
And not that she may be out there looking for him.

((Assuming it is wood and not... something else.))
