Lin took the list and pen and nodded in thanks. Before she could verbally respond, though, she gasped as she saw his tail swish and set it on the ground.

She looked closer at the tail. Yes, she realized she was staring. She had had enough people in the past stare at her to understand what Ialo was going through. She couldn't help it, though. She was so interested in what she was seeing. She had always been very inquisitive and interested in learning just about anything she could.

"Can you move it whenever and in any way you wish? Is it more like another leg or somewhat like an eye that will blink on its own but we can control if we wish for a few moments?"

((I have two things to say really fast before I'm forced off: 1) holy crap I have catching up to do, and I was only away for two days due to unexpected business and 2) I won't be on this weekend at all until Sunday because I'm going to a Girl Scout camp. Now I have to go.))

Ialo looked down at his tail. He was silent for a few moments, his exhaustion evident compared to Lin's excitement. ".... You mean prehensile? I fight with my tail sometimes, if that's what you mean." He was used to strange looks, but Lin was bringing it to new level. He never had anyone inspect his tail before.

((lol!))

She nodded slightly and slowly, her eyes still fixed on his tail. "Is it warm-blooded like you, or cold-blooded like a reptile? The dragons that my elders come in contact with are cold-blooded, of course."

Still looking down at his tail, his eyes bleary, Ialo blinked slowly. "It has to be warm-blooded, otherwise I would kill myself with my own powers..." He swished his tail again. "Have you not seen a dragon before?"

She gasped and looked at him in shock. She almost had a look of horror on her face. "What? Oh of course not! I am not skilled or experienced enough to be around one. Only the elders of my home are allowed, rightfully so, to meet with the dragons to receive their freely-given reagents for medicinal purposes."

Ialo took a step back, startled. "Alright, alright, it's not that big of a deal." He tilted his head, studying Lin. "Reagents, huh? I guess dragons in the East are really good with healing? In Europe, dragons are famous for their defenses. I've gone to my own skin with power saws, and the blades usually break." That wasn't to say of course, that Western dragons weren't good at healing. Any dragon was a natural healer. Some were just more specialized than others.

Lin was quite startled that Ialo had basically attacked himself to test his own defenses. "Well, yes, the dragons in our home are very magical and helpful. Their scales are rock-hard and are great for defense, as you said. We use their tears to soften the scales, as they are the only things that can, and then mix them with other herbs to help with the flavor. We feed that to elves that were injured in battle, and their body's defenses increase dramatically and heal the body incredibly quickly, even more so than our natural ability to heal quickly."

Ialo just shrugged. The information about the elves was interesting, but he had something else on his mind. "So, what classes are you interested in?"
PostPosted: Thu Jan 08, 2009 9:39 pm

Lin immediately reigned in her enthusiasm and regained her composure. She folded her hands in front of her and bowed her head respectfully. "Oh, of course. I am deeply sorry for veering so far off course."

She looked down at the chart and nodded. She could read very quickly and had read all of the classes and their descriptions in just a few seconds.

"Yes, I believe I would like to take Advanced Weaponry, where we can choose our own weapon and receive specialized training on it in a class setting; Western Herbs and Plants; Western Medicinal Practices; Deep Meditation Practices; Lunar and Solar Charting for Plants; Combining Weapons and Natural Powers; and then independent study for Western healing, please, sir."

She handed the chart back to him, which had said classes circled.

Ialo's eyebrows shot up as he gazed over the sheet. "Tedious classes, most kids only go for the basics. That's all they need really, magic is a dying art in the West," he lamented. But he was secretly a bit impressed that she wanted so many high level classes. "Out of curiosity, do you know the most powerfully magical part of a dragon?"
PostPosted: Thu Jan 08, 2009 10:14 pm

She was a bit confused, and it showed on her face. "Tedious classes? I thought they were challenging, but nothing someone at my class level could handle. At Bai Ching, we are always pushed hard and challenged. We struggle at first, but we are forever thankful for it. I can see benefits in both our way of instruction and yours where there is more free time and less stress. I simply prefer the method I was brought up in since I love to learn as much as I can."

"And as long as this institution is here, sir, magic will not be dead here in the West."

She then thought about his question for a few moments. Then, she answered slowly and softly, not quite sure. "Well, in my opinion, it depends. The tears of a dragon are immensely powerful because they are the only thing that can break down a dragon's scales. However, I also believe that the heart is very powerful because it keeps such a magical and powerful creature alive and so strong."

Oh this was so exciting! She would already learn something new from a direct source! Something about dragons from a person who was part dragon... how lucky she was!

Ialo smiled, even though he was tired, he believed one was never too tired to learn something new. "Excellent answers, all of them," he said, knocking out all three statements with one response. He pressed a single finger to the center of his forehead. "There is a small organ right here, and although I'm not sure about other types of dragons, it's my opinion that it's possibly the most powerful part of a dragon. I don't personally know the name for it, but without it, I would not be able use magic properly. And for now, I'll leave it at that." Truthfully, it was a powerful organ that absorbed magic from the environment and filtered it and stored it. That's why dragons were practically impossible to deplete of energy. If one were to strike a dragon in just the right spot, that organ would be destroyed, and all the magic in the dragon's body would quite literally, explode. Hence, the old traditions of dragons drowning themselves in the deep seas or diving in volcanoes as a form of suicide. One always prayed that their heart or their brain went first, before their 'battery'.

In the meantime, Ialo's tail had disappeared, and he picked up his briefcase and slung it over his shoulder. "Well, that's that I suppose."

((Why yes, I did make that all up.))

Lin was back to staring, even though she tried really hard to stop herself. She was staring at that exact spot on his forehead with large, inquisitive eyes. Her hand was actually twitching slightly from the inner fight she was having with herself to keep her hand at her side and not reach up to touch that spot on his forehead. She so wanted to see if that spot felt any different than a 'normal' forehead. She wanted to know if she touched it, whether she would be drained of some magic or if she would sense a large rush of magic just by touching that area. But that was definitely not proper at all! She was so fascinated, though, that even the tips of her elven ears were twitching slightly!

Still staring at his forehead, she nodded. "Alright, sir. I want to thank you greatly for your time and all of your help. You were invaluable to me just now."
