Hearing his Pokemon's crys, Mike and Portabello tore off through the tall grass. "He's got to be around here somewhere!" Mike said as he poked his head above the grass in hopes of spotting Nitro. "Wait! I got it, Portabello, use your legs, jump as high as you can, see if you can find Nitro.
"Bre!" Chirped the Pokemon as he crouched down low, and leapt up. Clearing the grass with easy, Portabello was up about 25 feet in the air frantically looking in each direction. As he landed with a shrug to his trainer, he jumped up again. Suddenly Portabello noticed a red and grey blur where it should have been a big green blur. He landed with a loud thud, grabbed Mike with his tail, and tore of in that direction.
"Meep!" Mike was not used to being thrashed around at high speeds.

"Please do," Nina said. "After watching how she fought against Misty, it wouldn't surprise me if she needed a few hours' worth of rest."
Sabrina looked at Nina with a raised eyebrow.
"Well... maybe I'm exaggerating."

Jaeshan exited the gym complex, a wide smile across his face. He knew Kassie'd be able to win that match no problem. He did know, however, that he would have problems. Butterfree would be a major help with her Sleep Powder, but he knew he couldn't only rely on her. He didn't know how well Mightyena could swim either. I need something to absorb all that water Misty throws around, he thought. What I need is a grass type.

"I don't think it will take that long," Kasiya laughed as they headed to the Pokemon Center. Kasiya handed both Ariel and Shocker over to Nurse Joy, who took them off for treatment. Kasiya walked around the floor, nearly pacing. She wanted to be on the road to Vermilion and winning her next badge. I can do this, she repeated to herself. And I will!

Nina sat on a bench near the front desk, and was bouncing her feet on the floor, looking downward. Her sister sat down next to her a minute or so later.
"Something wrong?" Sabrina asked.
Nina didn't respond right away. "I'm... really nervous. The battle with Surge will be the first one I've ever had with another Trainer. I've only ever had two battles before, and that was just to catch my Azumarill and Chansey..."
Sabrina smiled. "Don't think so hard about it. If you do, you'll just worry yourself more and get psyched out because of it."
Nina looked up and smiled a little bit. "All right."

Upon reaching the scene of the battle, Portabello prompty dropped Mike on the ground and leapt at the Magnemite, who was faceing the other direction. "Breeee!"
The Magnemite had turned around to see a large green blur heading towards him. Portabello connected with a Headbutt, scoring critical accuracy and sending the two Pokemon into the grass. Lightning bolts and Leech Seeds fired out of the brush in seemingly every direction. After a moment of silence, the Magnemite came crashing out of the grass, tumbling on the ground. Attemping to rise up, he was intercepted by Portabello pouncing out of the grass and landing on him, holding him down with his foot. "Loom!" He applied more pressure, in attempt to keep him down.
Nitro, still struggling with his status ailment, hobbled over to Mike, who was brushing himself off. "Chaar..." He weakly cried, as he fell into his trainers arms.
"Ack! Nitro Return!" He took out his Pokeball and recalled his Charmeleon back, then looked at the battle ahead. "Go Portabelo! You rock!"
His Pokemon, looked over at him and smiled. Seeing an oppertunity to strike, Magnemite fired a Thundershock at the Breloom. It connected, but the grass Pokemon steadied his gaze and applied more pressure.
Mike ran over and took out his last empty Pokeball, he raised it up in his hand and struck the Magnemite with it. It was sucked into the ball and gave little resistence, soon the catch was his.
Mike finally had a Magnemite.

Jaeshan walked north, reaching the edge of Cerulean City and following a path. He soon came up to a long, wooden bridge. There was a hand-painted sign nailed to one post that read "Nugget Bridge - Trainers Beware."
"Alright," Jaeshan said, looking down at Mightyena. "What's there to be wary about here?" He began to cross, the Dark Pokemon at his heels, his senses alert. He had gone about twenty feet when he heard someone.
"You dare cross Nugget Bridge? Then prepare to face the wrath of the Golden Five!" A kid had appeared from practically nowhere, holding a Pokeball out at arms length. "We shall battle now! Nidoran! Go!" He let it fly, revealing a Nidoran of the male variety. It twitched its ears and looked around nervously.
"Mightyena," Jaeshan nodded. He jumped forward, snarling and growling. The little Nidoran backed up a few steps, looking intimidated. "I accept your challenge," he sneered.

Mike picked up his new Pokemon and gave it's Pokeball a little hug. "I always wanted a Magnemite!" He smiled and looked down at his Breloom. "You did awesome Portabello! You are such a strong Pokemon, I'm glad I caught you."
Portbello chirped in affirmation, he was glad Mike met him too.
"Now, what to name this Magnemite...hm." Mike pondered for a moment, his Pokemon mimicing his actions. "Aha! I got it! Proton!" Mike smiled and looked at Portabello, who still had his hand on his chin, mocking his trainer. "Alright buddy, let's go find Mitsu."
The two walked off into the tall grass, as the little Wurmple crawled in and noticed the battle scene. It sniffed around in hopes of finding someone to converse with.

As soon as the chime rang, signalling her Pokemon were healed, Kasiya jumped up and took them from Nurse Joy, uttering a quick "Thank you!" She set them in her belt, and was ready to go.

"Okay, guys, it's our turn. Are you ready?" Eevee ran around, full of energy, and Thunder sparked his cheeks, ready for battle. As they headed for the gym, Ryka remembered Tony's battle. I have some ideas, she thought. Once they entered the gym, she figured a way to use the terrain to her advantage. She walked towards Brock, until she was sighted by a trainer.
"You're light years away from facing Brock!" He said as he retrived a Pokeball.
"You do know that light years are a form of distance, not time, right?" Ryka said as she, too, got a Pokeball.
"Yeah, I'm just testing you. Go, Diglett!" The pokeball revealed the little mole pokemon. it spun around in cheerful glee.
"Okay, Go, Thunder!" Thunder ran into the battlefield, cheeks sparking. "Thunder, remember, electricty does no damage!"
"Diglett, Dig!" The trainer yelled. The little pokemon went under the ground.
"Thunder, jump up on a rock!" Thunder did as it was told. They heard a noise, but the Diglett didn't come up. Instead, it hit the bottom of the rock, and came back up with a bump on it's head. "Good job!" Ryka yelled. "Now, tackle it before it goes back down!"
"Diglett, go back under!" It started to, but Thunder was to fast. The Diglett was almost under, but Thunder tackled the bump on it's head. The Diglett came back up and fell.
"The challenger wins!" The referree yelled.
"Yeah! We did it, guys!" Thunder jumped into Ryka's arms, and she hugged him. "Great Job, Thunder! Do you want to go be healed before we challenge Brock?" Thunder just shook it's head. It looked very anticipated. "Alright, let's go!" Ryka said as the walked into the room Brock was in.

"Go, Mightyena! Use Tackle!" Jaeshan ordered sternly. It obeyed and charged the Nidoran, knocking it back at its trainer's feet.
"Don't be afraid because he's bigger than you!" The kid barked. "Try a Poison Sing attack!" The little Nidoran hit Mightyena with the attack, but he shook it off.
"Bite!" cried Jaeshan, and again the wolf-like Pokemon attacked. The Nidoran collapesed in defeat.
"Return, Nidoran," the kid said, his voice shakey. "Your turn! Go Ekans!"
"Return, Mightyena," Jaeshan said, holding out a Pokeball. He flicked his wrist and let another one fly. "Butterfree!"

Tony was leaning against the counter of the pokemon center waiting for Weed and Phoenix to be healed and he glanced towards the door wondering how Ryka was doing. He hadn't even heard her come in during his gym battle and he hopped she had gotten some ideas from his battle. She is going to need all the help she can get with her type disadvantige. Tony sighed and glanced over at Nurse Joy who was busy working on healing his pokemon. After a moment there was a ding and Nurse Joy handed him back his pokemon. Thanking her and taking them back and letting them out of there pokeballs to congradulate them.
"Great job you guys! I still can't believe that we won that easily." He said happily before reaching down to pick up Weed. "Especially you Weed, you did great. If you hadn't taken care of that Geodude and weaked that Onix I am not quite so sure that this battle would have gone by so easily." Weed cheared happily in Tony's hands and he smiled at the grass pokemon before putting him down.
"Allright lets go and see if Ryka wins her battle to." He said as he left heading back to the gym. When he made it in the gym he spotted Len sitting there on one of the benches on the sidelines and sat down next to him. "Have I missed anything?"
Len looked over at him supriesed since he hadn't heard him come in and smiled excitedly at him. "Nope she beat the other trainer kind of like you did though. Great job battling Brock though!"

"I'm ready," Kasiya said happily. "We can head out at any time. Although," she looked at Nina, and scratched her chin. "I think you should find a couple of trainers to battle with before you challenge Surge. He can be pretty overwhelming if you're not prepared."
