My future English Honors teacher. I'm supposed to read Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns andI Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. I didn't have the list with me when I went to Borders; Cold Sassy Tree was sold out and I thought we had to read Great Expectations confused

I hated GE. We read it during the school year; the teachers didn't assign summer lists until my Senior year for some reason. It was so tedious, so boring, so ... so ... bad. I had a whole extra week to read the damned thing because a hurricane closed the school, and really, I tried. I forced myself to sit down with it for an hour in a quiet room, and I worked through a few chapters before giving up.
The only assigned reading that I didn't finish. I got about halfway through it, and then I read the last few chapters. Passed the test with like a B-.
horrible book.
Oh. And I'm the sort of person who reads for fun. I read all sorts of things. I have more books than brains. But you'd have to PAY me to read (or re-read) some of the "literature" I was force-fed during school.

Made me so jealous when I learned Ender's Game is starting to show up on school reading lists. By the time I was a Senior in high school, I'd read it thrice already for fun. :/
