Bp: I have a couple pictures of David on my computer as well, none that I have taken yet. But eventually I will get there.

I'm back from my trip.

It was fun, but now I'm kind of depressed. I think I did a bad job as a TA (the professor never really asked me to do anything) and now I'm officially done with my college degree and have nothing do to now but find something else to do with my life.

Also. I was hoping my boyfriend would have found a job by the time I got home, but he's still as much as a freeloader as ever. I don't think he even tried.

And to finish it off, as soon as I plugged my camera's memory card into the computer to get my pictures off of it, the card corrupted. I can't find a free data recovery program and I fear I'll have to shell out more money for yet another computer failure...

Meh...

miri, sometimes professors are just control freaks and they want to handle everything themselves, so don't take it personally if your professor didn't ask you to do much.

i had a TA last semester. she didn't do much either. that's because i'm a total control freak. i also worked as a TA for a professor who was a total control freak. that was a fun semester. i barely did anything d:.

I just don't think I deserve (or will receive) 3 credits of A's for making sure everyone was in the van before driving off.

She gave most of the extra responsibility to the one student who was nearly twice my age.

Free catalog for pet owners. ^0^ Dr Foster & Smith are two veterinarians who create different types of toys, food, etc for different types of pets. The magazine is mostly for products, but they also have some general info and tips and whatnot in it. You can request as many free catalogs as you want, and they have 'em for dogs, cats, birds, fish, pond & garden, reptiles, wild birds, ferrets, and small pets.

Yay, catalogs. I love getting non-junk junk mail.

Alex, knower of things Korean. The Wikipedia help desk is failing me. Will you please tell me what a yeoiju is?

Thanks Cardi. I'm thinking of putting this in the avi arena, but with a few improvements first (on the jewelry and such...).

I'm actually getting that catalog, lol. I signed up about a month ago after I started purchasing tons of ferret supplies from them.

Quote:
Korean Dragon: The Yeoiju was a race of wise dragon with 4 claws, one being a thumb to carry a "dragon orb". These orbs were said to hold omnipotence and creation at will for those powerful enough to weild them. The other race was known as the Imugi and seeing one of these is associated with good luck. There was also the Korean Cockatrice, or Kye-ryong which literally translated to chicken dragon. They were seen as chariot pulling beasts for Imoprtant legendary figures and their parents. One legend has the Princess of Silla being born out of a Cockatrice egg.

The "dragon orb" is also sometimes referred to as the yeoiju, so it depends on the context of use.

I signed up for the magazine just now, 'cause I gots a kitty! ^0^

The wikipedia entry on "Kumiho" says:

Quote:
Another version of the mythology, however, holds that with enough will a Kumiho could further ascend from its Yokwe state and become fully, permanently human and lose its evil character. Explanations of how this could be achieved vary, but they sometimes include aspects such as refraining from killing or tasting meat for a thousand days, or obtaining a Yeoiju (여의주) and making sure that the Yeoiju saw the full moon at least every month during the ordeal. Unlike Yeoiju wielding dragons, Kumiho were not thought to be capable of omnipotence or creation at will since they were lesser creatures.

In the story I'm writing, I wanted the Kumiho character to be trying to become a full human by taking care of a Yeoiju and showing it the full moon every month. But when she finds her two human children in a dangerous situation, she rescues them and accidentally breaks the Yeoiju in half in the process. Giving up (for now), she gives the two halves of the Yeoiju to her children as gifts. They mount the Yeoiju pieces on twin magic rods and use them to increase their magic powers.

I'm trying to figure out the accuracy of the Wikipedia statement. I also need to know how exactly one can get a Yeoiju, what it's powers are, and what would happen if one was broken in half.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korean_dragon

That has a little more info than what I already provided.

It says that the yeoiju can only be wielded by the dragon, so I assume that any other being in possession of one wouldn't be able to use it's powers (which basically boil down to being a god).

Not sure how one would obtain a yeoiju, as all the stories I've come across have the character with one already. Korean Dragons are seen as very benevolent, though, so perhaps you could fit in something to the idea of your kumiho meeting a dragon and explaining her story, and the dragon feels helpful, lending her the orb.

As for one breaking, I'd say that's probably alright to be left to altered interpretation. Not sure if there's an "official" explanation of what might happen.
