Revan was his name as a Jedi. For some reason he added Darth to it, and others followed the tradition.

Well, I wouldn't think that you'd overlook the most crucial fact.
He goes everywhere with Han Solo. Whatever Han is, Chewy is just as deserving, so I would assume he's the same rank as solo, with equal authority.
Sort of like a joint-general.

Also on another note, did the Jedi of the Prequel era strike you guys as having signifigant trouble battling Other Force users or Lightsaber Wielders?
