I hope I am not the only guy that plays flute here, but it is the best instrument in the world. Awsome sound and really cool tricks, such as the head joint can be made to sound like wolves, crickets and that one australian sound thingy. And the body can be made to sound like a basson. In our band we have 10 flutes for honors band, and when we all play high notes, it is just terrible sharp, but oh well who cares its the flute

mipcy In our band, we tend to have what I call 'flute wars.' Generally, it's over seating. But, being the senior senior section leader (I have one year of experience over the others) they listen. Sort of. They don't like me, though. yeah, I know what that's like... my flutes did it all the time! I was section leader during my Senior year of high school... some of them may not have liked me, but I did have the best fluteline in my area. smile It was interesting keeping up with them while playing a flute solo then switching to piccolo in the marching show, and multiple solos and having to do afterschool sectionals during concert season. It was well worth it though! biggrin

Kyo_cat_zodiac i amtrying to get a picclo for marching band next season I love my flute, but marching picc. is so much fun. I just don't like flutes on the field.

Hollyshort I love playing flute!! In the band I am in right now there are 7 flutes lol not very many but we are really great friends holly I think there are 14 of us in all. Four in the wind ensemble and 10 in the symphonic band. It's the same for pep band (if you don't count the piccolos.) We've been practicing Molly all week 'cause we have another competition on tuesday. Incidentally I have a symphony concert the day before, and performances for the musical on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It's gonna be a pretty musical weekend for me.

hee hee, Im a flute player too. and one time me and a friend had to do a duet for our ensamble. and we just couldnt get our flutes at the same freequency, so my teacher Fitze replies with a joke
Fitze: How do you get two flutes to play in unison?
Me: I dont know? how?
Fitze: Shoot one.
*we laugh*
Me: K, but shoot Vivi first.
Vivi: WHAT!
Fitze: *throws conducting baton at Vivi

Damn, my flute's gonna be around 75 dollars to fix. Joy. >> Well, at least I'M not paying for it! XP It's so funny... Monday and Tuesday people kept asking why we were playing pep band music. xd The sign of pep band in our class is when me and two other girls pull out saxes rather than our concert instruments (flute/oboe/clarinet), so everyone kept thinking that we were playing pep since I had my sax. I had to explain to about half the class that my flute was in the shop. XD

Heh, same thing happens for me when I pull out my alto. Today we got a new chart, "Yakety Sax", a sax feature, so I got my alto out and everyone got confused. I shoulda stayed on flute today though, two of the five in our class were absent. And one that was there can't play well at all... But I had fun on alto. sweatdrop
I need to fix my flute too... stupid trill keys and Eb key are all clicky. But at least it's not like my alto where I found half an inch of the screw for one of the rods coming out. I need to find a screwdriver kit so I can fix that... hmmm...

Ya I don't play flute in band I'm a french hornist but I play flute as a side thing I taught myself how to play. I suck but whatever

How can you make it to sound like wolves, crickets, and that Australian sound thingy?
