Celeborn nodded at Donovan, stopping the cart near the horses. He climbed down and stretched a bit, then moved to join the man.
"I see things went well," he commented seriously, folding his arms across his chest. He glanced over at Celebor, who was still kneeling and talking with the girl. "How did he do?"

"He did fine," Donovan replied, "We didn't have any problems. At the current moment he's finding himself busy making sure they're comfortable."
That was the nice thing about having to look after kids, they made a very good distractor, at least that is how Donovan saw.

Celeborn nodded. "Excellent. It will probably hit him later, though. We should get moving again, before the other group gets even further away. From here we turn east, then north ... it may be another week before we catch up with them, though I hope it won't be so long."

No kidding, these kids had been out for who knows how long, and any longer than a week might be a bit trying. He nodded, at that before turning back to the kids.
"Celebor, we're on the move again."

Celebor nodded at Donovan, then held his hand out to the little girl.
"We're going to keep going now," he smiled at her. "There are other children that we have to rescue. Come ride in the cart, there are lots of blankets and food there for you."

Celeborn headed back to the cart and lay a few blankets down in the bottom so that the kids would have a padded seat - at least until they were joined by other children who would need the blankets. He made sure there were flasks of water in plain sight so that they would know they could take a drink whenever they wanted, then climbed back up onto the seat.
The girl took Celebor's hand and stood up, clinging tightly to him as he led her over to the cart. The boy jumped up ahead of her, then helped her up as well, and the two of them lay down in the middle of the blanket and made themselves comfortable.
Before Celeborn could even ask if they were going to be all right back there, the girl was sound asleep.

One down, two more to go, Donovan thought absently as he watched Celebor help the children. He wasn't overly surprised the girl fell asleep, she had been crying a lot, and it took energy. A great deal in fact.
He mounted his horse once more, checking to make sure everything was in place.

Once the children were both comfortable in the cart, Celebor left them and returned to his horse, pulling the reins back over its head before mounting up. He paused for a moment, his serious green eyes looking off in the direction of the slavers they had killed, but then he turned his horse deliberately away and turned to Donovan and Celeborn.
"Lead the way," he said softly.

Celeborn flicked the reins and the cart started forward once again, wheels creaking softly as they passed over the uneven ground.
The afternoon was warm and sunny, and though it was perhaps a bit hotter than Celeborn personally would have preferred, he had to admit that it was perfect weather for traveling. To help with the heat problem, he removed his tunic and set it on the bench beside him so that it wouldn't be in the way, then pulled his braid in front of him so that it wouldn't bother his back. Every few minutes he would peer over his shoulder at the children - even the boy had fallen asleep by then - to make sure that they were still all right.
When night came, he stopped them in a small clearing next to a river. He unhitched the horse from the cart, and once it was grazing and resting, he turned back to Donovan.
"How shall we split the shifts tonight?" he asked quietly, careful not to wake the children.

If he hadn't learned how to ignore the heat he would have been quite uncomfortable. Donovan was glad when night fell, it felt good. Now that the question was posed, the he had to think on how long they would be staying.
"Hmm.. three hour shifts?"
He wanted Celebor to do that too as well.

Celebor had been quiet all afternoon, but now he looked over at Donovan. his eyes as serious as they had ever been.
"I'll take the first shift," he said, more as a fact than an offer. "I don't think I'll be able to sleep anyways."
His thoughts had been busy all afternoon, and he needed the time to think.

Celeborn blinked at the teen, then nodded knowingly. He just hoped that Celebor wouldn't be too distracted to keep watch properly.
"That's fine with me," he agreed. "Donovan, would you like second shift then? Or third?"

"I'll take the second," Donovan murmured.
It would be easier for him to get up that way if it was the second rather than the third shift.

Celeborn nodded. "All right, then. Wake me when it's time."
He checked on the children once more. He knew they would probably be more comfortable on the gound, but considering that they were already asleep in the back of the cart, he didn't have the heart to wake them. Besides that, they were on top of a pile of blankets, so it was probably soft enough for them.
He lay down on the ground at the end of the cart, so that no one could get on or off without him knowing, lay out his blanket, and fell asleep.

Celebor moved to begin his watch, but seemed to think better of it, because he first headed over to Donovan, coming to a stop just in front of the man.
"Donovan," he said softly, "do you remember that talk we had a few weeks ago? About what I would do back in Gaia, what schooling I might take?"
