Bia remained standing- and as she stared at the orange liquid in the syringe, a peculiar, heady calm came over her- an almost narcotic bleariness of acceptance... and self-preservation. She reached up with both hands and slowly, deliberately started to unbutton her labcoat- the end of her fingers raw from where she'd chewed her nails off the night before- causing the line of her pearl grey polish to become ragged- uneven.
The coat slipped back off her arms with a whispering noise, and Bia dropped it to the side. She would not need it anymore.
"...It's... alright, Dr. Lockheart. ...Go ahead." She rolled up her sleeve, took a deep breath... and closed her eyes.

Aubrey stepped closer and took steadied her arm with her hands, wiping the crook of her elbow with the stinging cold alcohol swab for a good thirty seconds longer than most nurses would.
Aubrey popped the needle protector off with her teeth and before she could stand to analyze it anymore, pricked her skin with the needle, slowly but surely pressing the plunger in.

The sting was painful. The sting... was good. Bia let herself breathe easier- silently asking her heart to calm its fearful beating.
Nothing had been solved- not yet. But it was the sure step that changed Bia's life forever. She opened her eyes when it was all over.
"Thank you. ...Dr." She sighed, and looked to the ceiling. In that moment, she was all at once relieved- and more terrified than she had ever been in her life.
"...What now?"

"That's it...really." Aubrey pulled a key that was tucked into the file and handed it out to her. "Its Duplex #64. Whenever you're packed and ready, just put your resignation on my desk and get one of the guards to take you out..."
Aubrey scratched her arm. "I'm assuming you don't need the guided tour or anything. Do you have any... uhm..requests?"

"One of ... the guards?" Her eyes creased with a measure of concern. When they were turned downward thusly, she altogether ruined the effect she often cultivated- that of an almost cat-like shape, with the flick of an eyelash curler and an artfully smudged eyeliner pencil. When she was worried, Bia Grey looked- not so much catlike- as she did a fearful mouse.

Aubrey shrugged. "Its just...policy, really. No one's allowed to go in or out enscorted ya know...and, well, you know once you leave the main facilities your access codes will all be disabled..." Aubrey began to chew on her own nails, not liking the heavy awkwardness in the air.

The source of Bia's attention fed directly into Aubrey's words- not her actions- or else, she may have recognized the nervous habit that the two shared- and been put at a sort of ease created by solidarity. Instead, she returned to the woman's earlier questions.
"I don't think I have any ...requests. If it's alright with you- I'd... like to leave right away. I still have a project that I've been working on, but I would like permission to abandon it- leave it to the rest of the teammembers." She gave a hapless sigh. Her 'project' was, as Aubrey was likely aware of, a superfluous and time-consuming double and triple-check of the number of genetic markers in an already pre-mapped sequence of islander DNA. It was busy work, at best.

"Sure..." Aubrey said, wrapping her arms around herself. "Are you packed" She almost winced at the question, and what it implied.

She did not miss the wince- however, she had no idea what it meant. It puzzled her, but she nodded, answering the question- but possibly not the subtext.
"Mostly. I just have to get a few things. ...And... I'll leave my resignation on your desk as I leave." She turned, then, as if to cut their encounter short- but then, as she reached the door, Bia looked back at where Aubrey still stood, her arms less crossed in front of her than engaged in a self-embrace.
"Thank you, Doctor."

Aubrey couldn't bring herself to say 'you're welcome'. Instead she just nodded and went to open the door for her. "Do you want me to escort you?"

Bia did not know how to accept the gesture- or what it meant- but, somehow, it seemed right. So she nodded, and gave the slightest smile as she started the long walk to the complex of rooms deep in the mountain facility. The next time she saw Aubrey Lockheart- she might very well be... something quite other than herself. The thought amused her, in a grisly way.

(a little backdated, taking place about four days after Freddie's first 'approach')
Aubrey ran her hand through her hair and flipped through the file one more day. The timing of everything couldn't have really been more perfect. She had double checked her calander over five times that day...tonight was her best chance.
It wasn't like things were still... horrible between them. But it had been much more 'business than usual' for a while now. Even if they spent the night together, most of the time Moreau was back in the labs by the time Aubrey woke up the next day.
She shook her head, not wanting to think about that now. She had something else on her mind, and she needed someone to convince she was justified...and no one else better than Moreau himself.
She checked her watch...it was starting to get late. She tapped on the door of the lab Moreau was in.
Moreau flipped his pen around in between his fingers as he stared at the papers he was going over. Lately, he'd been distracted. Things had never quite felt the same between himself and Aubrey. He'd delved himself into his work and had tried not to think about it.
It was easier to come back after she was in bed. To work late even when he didn't feel like it, than try and face things. Atleast she'd stayed in the labs where she was safe.
He heard the knocking on the door. Pushing a button that allowed the door to open he said. "Come in." as the door unlocked.
Aubrey adjusted her hair one more time before making her way in. She looked nice... she wasn't exactly 'dressed up' per say, but she was a wearing a nice blouse under her labcoat and a black skirt that was rather short for Aubrey standards. She had a folder tucked under her arm as she came in, smiling pleasantly to Moreau as she came over. "Hey Nicky..." she said, leaning against the edge of the lab table. "I have a favor to ask."
Moreau's eyes roamed briefly over Aubrey's outfit. He twitched a little uncomfortably in his seat. He looked at Aubrey, she looked nicer than when he'd normally see her around the labs. His mind flashed briefly to the night she'd shown up in nothing but the labcoat. When he obliterated the rest of the details of that night from his mind it was a very... pleasent thought.
"What can I do for you?" Moreau smiled. Perhaps this would be a decent chance to smooth things over between them.
Aubrey plopped the file down on the table. "Permission to terminate an employee. His name is Freddie Rhodes, he's one of the guards previously assigned to... " her words turned a bit sour at mention, "my protection when I leave the labs. "
She slid the file over to him. "I have everything taken care of as far... relocation if you want to see."
Moreau smiled, happy she had brought this to him. Technically, she probably could have bypassed him, submited a form for approval. But she'd come to him personally to take care of this. He stared up at her then looked down and started to go over the paper work.
Moreau's eyes ran over the subject details. So she wanted him demoted to a subject, a transgender serum no less. "Sexual Harrasment?" he stared up and asked Aubrey.
"Yeah..." she took a step closer to him. "We got stuck out in the jungle and he, well... propositioned himself." She reddened a bit. "He said since he knew things weren't going so well between us...and since, well..." she didn't want to mention Billy, but Moreau probably got the point. "Anyway.. he thought he'd be 'nice' and offer me some..release."
The plastic of Moreau's pen strained as he wedged it between is fingers and squeezed hard. "He... offered you some release?" Moreau pushed the top of the pen and began to write with his hand shaking a bit over all of the different places his signature went.
"I don't think this will be a problem." Moreau flipped the packet around back to Aubrey. "Atleast he won't be hitting on you any time anymore. We've already established your not into the whole girl thing anymore."
Aubrey stepped closer, looping her arms around his shoulders with a grin. "Not unless you want me to be," she said with a wink. "Anyway... well, he was right in some respects." Her expression turned more somber as she nuzzled his neck. "I have missed you. And..things that some with the territory."
Knowing Moreau, and what he liked, she couldn't help but grin a bit again. "And I have to say, this feels good. Knowing he'll get what he deserves and all..."
Moreau pulled Aubrey forward to him and kissed her deep on the lips. Moreau ran his hands down her thighs and her butt. He smiled and looked deep into her eyes.
"I think so too. I think your most hot when your feeling wicked." Moreau leaned forward on the desk and locked the door.

Freddie was back in uniform, the only one they gave him, and still clinging to the notion that his stay in the village was all some kind of horrible prank. Thus why he was stomping up to the gate of the labs, his features twisted into a scowl that only made him look worse. Enough was enough. Losing a fight to frog boy was one thing, but running into Zach? Unarmed? He couldn't stand for that. Worse, all the freaks acted like they knew. No one had said anything official-like about firing, so Freddie was certain everything right down to the note in the duplex was part of the joke.

The main gate was closed, as always, a card-reader and number pad at the edge of the gate and two guards, David Williams and Brian Ducksworth stood on either side, their rifles in hand. They saw Freddie's approach, in uniform, and threw each other worries glances.
Before he could get all the way to the gate, Williams stepped up and placed a hand on Freddie's shoulder.
"Whoa there, Buddy... uh..whatcha doin?"
