Hiru was a bit underwhelmed to be once again lead to a different location. This mission was starting to look like an easter egg hunt. Still, he was smart enough not to complain when following a man who can literally sow your butt to your face in the blink of an eye. Without hesitation Hiru followed his superior and left for the beach.

Byakuran stepped inside the humble tea shop behind Tomoyo, the silver haired woman looking rather serious as she shut the flaps behind them, setting up the closed sign outside.

"Hey there kid." Takahashi was sitting behind the counter with a slightly strained look. "Come on back, we'll all sit and have some tea. The letter arrived just a little bit ago. Nothing doing for family troubles am I right?" he chuckled, but it was an empty sort of chuckle.

The Tea shop was a fine enough place to be going on with, it's floors were made of a fine polished wood, and it's low tables and comfortable cushions gave it a fine atmosphere. No one at all would have reason to think anything of the place beyond what it seemed to be... and that of course, was precisely the point.

The back room of the tea shop actually seemed the first part of the couples home, a staircase at the back leading to the rest which rested above the shop itself. While there were numerous boxes and supplies, as well as a kitchen in the corner for the purposes of the shop, there were also a few comfortable sofa's set out, with a table in between. Takahasi seated himself upon the sofa, while Byakuran himself checked the exits, ensuring that no one was listening in, securing both the door through to the shop and the service exit. Tomoyo began to actually prepare some tea, a rather unreadable look in place.

"So..." Byakuran broke the silence. "What's the situation?"

Takahashi fell into a slightly smirking chuckle. "Well, as of today, we're all officially in the employ of the village hidden in the sound. Otogakure has fallen. Just this last night, apparently. There were quite few casualties, but most of the deaths were just the missing Nin that were hired by the clan. The details are a little fuzzy, but it seems like they defeated the Otokage, but he managed to kill the Clan Head before he went down."

Byakuran was a little surprised. "The Elder...? That's...a little surprising. Who then took charge of the clan?"

"Orikami-sama, naturally." Takahashi said with a broad grin.

Byakuran looked shocked for a moment, before calming down. Orikami. He knew that name well, of course. Leader of the Knights of Forte, and one of the most powerful warriors the clan had ever seen. So he was now in charge of the clan...he was willing to bet that no one even flinched at his taking control. All the clan would welcome it. He was the strongest, yes, but also the most suited man to lead that Byakuran could even...imagine. Byakuran himself didn't think he was suitable leader... it was just not something for which he excelled... but Orikami...Orikami was man who was born with the countenance of an emperor... born to rule.

"So he's the new Otokage." Byakuran could picture it. He could even imagine the people of Oto bowing to him willingly. With the death of his father he could shift blame for the attack unto him, and instead shift the focus towards the future...towards a brighter future. Byakuran seemed deep in thought. Yes. Otogakure had indeed fallen. But now it would rise. Rise with Orikami at it's helm and he had to admit himself the slightest bit curious as to what sort of place it would become under his rule. "What are my new orders?"

Tomoyo gave a soft smile as she turned, two cups of tea in as she walked over and handed one to Byakuran, keeping the other for herself. "You in a hurry kid?"

"Well I do have to finish Takahashi's errand." he noted with a slight smile.

"Hey," takahashi said with hint of humor "Don't I get a cup of tea?"

Tomoyo merely gave the man an annoyed look. "Get it yourself."

Takahashi was used to this sort of treatment of course. The woman always seemed to mother Byakuran, even when not putting on their act, but whenever the act dropped treated Takahashi himself like unwanted refuse. Eh, it happened.

"Anyway," Takahashi went on as the two others sipped their tea. "Your orders came through that you're to open up a communication signal tommorow, a direct link to Oto, to answer some questions and make a report."

Byakuran raised an eyebrow. "Couldn't it be intercepted?"

Takahashi shrugged. "It's not likely, but it could be I guess. They must not think it'll be anything worth hiding. They told you to disguise your voice, so only content will be what's intercepted. It's probably just little stuff, ya know, Bureaucracy or whatever.

Byakuran nodded. "Very Well." he finished the rest of his tea in a quick gulp. "Then I should be going. It's rude to keep others waiting after all." he gave a slight chuckle. "I'll be over here tomorrow early, then."

"Hey," Tomoyo insisted with her easy going smile. "Don't bother. You're doing a job in the area right? Instead of trudging all the way back you to your apartment, just come crash here tonight. I'll prepare a futon for you upstairs."

Byakuran smiled his own usual smile. "Ah, thank you very much Tomoyo-chan, you're always so thoughtful." he beamed at her as she accepted his empty tea cup, the woman tussling his hair before she did so.

"I'll "chan" you you little demon. Go on then. Break up that gambling ring. And bring me back something hm?" The woman said with a rather contented laugh.

"I shall endeavor to do so." the young genin acquiesced as he headed out the back service entrance, scaling the wall outside and heading off towards the rendezvous point.

"Ahh," Takahashi teased with a raised brow. "Tomoyo, a man could get jealous."

Tomoyo turned and gave the man an apathetic gaze. "What's that supposed to mean?"

Takahashi shook his head giving a laugh, saying no more. Who was he to cross words with a mother hen? Even if it was a mother hen who sent their chick off to commit murder and espionage with a warm smile in place... why the heck did he get assigned such weird partners?"

Masa looked down at Shinzu from the rooftops. She was going to get him this time for sure. She poised herself, preparing for the attack. She was about to launch, but somebody came running down the street, flailing their arms about. Masa jumped down and pointed at an alleyway. "Somebody is coming." She readied herself for the attack, but instead came the librarian.

He recognized Shinzu, the thief and troublemaker, as well as Masaraku, the rude smartass. He waved them down and said, "There are ninja in the library! They're destroying the whole place."

In a cloud of smoke, a shark man appeared, crouched right in what was most likely the middle of a street in the housing district. He was relieved to see his reverse summoning had at least brought him back to the right place... and at the right altitude.

A smile on his face gradually worked its way up his cheeks, revealing the joy he was feeling from returning to his home after these long months at the Cool Springs. Diplomacy and training were interesting for a while; but he had started to get the feeling he needed to get back to his village which, at the time he had left, was still in somewhat of a disarray.

Getting back up and fastening his massive blade onto his back properly, he surveyed the area to see if there were any familiar faces in the neighberhood whom he could get an update from. Very quickly, however, his attention was diverted by a man shouting something about ninjas attacking a library. In all his missions he had seen many unusual things, but this was nevertheless a first...

Seeing what appeared to be a few genin heeding the man's call, Hiru discretely followed them from a reasonable distance, just to make sure everything was under control.

Was one day off to much to ask for? Hell his wounds from Kodoku village were still healing! Sighing Shinzu turned to Masaraku, who had been stalking him, like usual. "Come on, whatever it is we have to go." He said, before taking off towards the Library.

She shook her head, "Thats what happens when the village is under staffed on shinobi." She took off after Shinzu and ran past him, "Don't walk, run!" She ran towards the library, drawing her sword as she ran. She agreed with Shinzu, getting a break before the chunin exams would be nice. She ran into the library, and entered stealth mode.

Shinzu stayed close behind Masaraku whilst they traveled to the Library, wondering jsut what in the world was possibly going on? Really who attacked a library? Of course he could understand getting in to find something out, but completely attacking it? That made no sense.

Byakuran gave a slightly quirked brow, his hand still reaching up and prodding the fresh tattoo on his face. Perhaps due to his late constitution training, it hadn't hurt nearly as much as he'd been expecting. And now the matter of whether or not he could use the quip in battle if he was caught without his shirt on was settled...yet...oddly, he was not entirely sure how that had led to this.

"Pardon, Tomoyo-chan, but...is this really necessary?" The rather bewildered young man was standing still, as instructed, while the more maternal of his contacts fussed over the final touches of his...and he quoted "new look".

"Of course, you want to look your best when you meet the Otokage don't you?"

Byakuran gave a somewhat strained scrunch of his face. "Well...I hadn't really even thought about it actually..."

"Well then it's good that I'm here to help then, isn't it. And there! The new you! I'll have more clothes like these sent up to your apartment. We'll just throw out those old ones."

Byakuran looked a bit exasperated for what it was worth, but didn't argue with the woman, he supposed this was merely one of those things that went over his head...like teddy bears...what in the world was the purpose of...but he couldn't let himself get distracted, he'd wasted enough time all ready. "Well, thank you, I suppose for..."

"saving you from yourself and your defunct sense of fashion?"

"I suppose if you say so." the dark haired Genin conceded with a nod. "I have to go. Much to do if I'm going to get an actual team assignment. I suppose my only recourse is to become so good they've no choice." he gave one of his usual grins.

"I'll see you around, Tomoyo-chan."

His contact gave a nod. "Remember that you have to file your report late today. They'll be expecting it."

Byakuran gave a nod. "Of course, I already gave it to Takahashi. He's understanding I wasn't able to deal with the...errand, he asked me to run given the village was attacked. He'll submit it the usual way. With the Otokage not in Oto for the exams, there was no point in a verbal submission for the moment anyway."

"Alright. Off you go then."

Byakuran gave another nod to the closest thing he had to a mother, and how sad was that, before heading out through the establishment that acted as their cover, and headed off down the street...

Stage 1: Ninjutsu DC: 28 (raise DC for challenge), Making a solid clone from water.
Ninjutsu: 20
Roll: 10 or above needed
Train: 4/10

Byakuran's path through the housing district was quick enough, his steps taking him further and further at a diagonal along the sides of the buildings, his wall walking well within hand by this point. He was returning to his own apartment, which he hadn't been too since the day before, given his crashing at Tomoyo and Takahashi's place the previous night. He had to admit, after the day's previous training, he had been marveling at the fact he had been in fighting shape at all. Let alone in enough shape to actually hold his own against a Ninja who'd had combat Ninjutsu and the jump on him. Fortune seemed to have favored him in that regard...but now... a small smile came over his face. Now he felt incredible. A new man? Maybe he was. The power that he'd gotten from his work with his chakra and his efforts in the cave...it showed. It seemed to fill him like a swell of power he'd never felt as a part of himself before. He felt like he could do anything. Like he could use his synchronize with his second self a dozen times over. It felt incredible. This, indeed, was the power that he had been wanting. That he had been expecting when he'd battled with himself in the tunnels. This was the power that he had so greatly desired....and now...

As he landed on the roof top to his apartment building, he took a moment to look out over the village. The Village hidden in the mist was a...peaceful sight. He enjoyed, truth be told, looking out over it sometimes with no particular intent, just watching, observing. He really did, despite his oft attitude, like people. They were so fascinating to watch and did and said the most interesting things on occasion. It was the rare conversation with another person where he wasn't at least the tiny bit amused over something that had transpired. But the fact of the matter was that humans...well, as amusing as they were, and were dangerous. To him, at least. In his position he had to be wary at all times...because discovery would mean death.

His eyes seemed to turn over the edge of the roof top, and at last to the tub of water that he'd had set out some time ago so that he might be able to practice water walking, though it had come so easily to him he'd ended up not needing it. Now though, it had another purpose. he reached into the pocket of his black coat draped around his shoulder, and withdrew a scroll. It was one that he had gotten from the library the day before, and, as it happened, one of Kiri's signature jutsu. The water clone. It wasn't so significant a jutsu to the Hidden mist as some, the Hidden Mist technique itself for example, but it was still a jutsu that they had kept as a closely guarded secret. If he was truly a spy or the Otobe...if he was loyal agent to them. There was really no debate as to what he should do with this copied scroll once he was done with it.

He should hand it in to his superiors, pass it along to the clan as a loyal little soldier who wasn't the least bitter at their commanding treatment, and wasn't in the least harboring a hatred for his own clan... but...well, Byakuran otobe wasn't that sort've person.

He formed a hand sign as his chakra began to focus, the rather potent energy coming from his body far greater than that which should have been coming from a genin. His training hadn't even taken full effect yet, and it had still grown to an unbelievable level compared to his original capability. the instructions on the scroll were simple enough for one training in a fair amount of ninjutsu, and it was even easier given his exprience with the syrup technique, but this starting step was far different than merely turning one's chakra into water. it was actually using one's chakra to manipulate water...to bend it...to control the flow and ebb and manipulate it into a solid form. This was infitely more difficult than merely spewing out water...or rather, it was far different. He supposed in terms of learning how to convert one's chakra the difficulty was reasonable similar... but they were two different matters.

His eyes slowly passed from one side of the tub of water to other, his chakra flowing forth as he struggled to get the water to move...to bend...something. He closed his eyes. The water...he'd been surrounded by it when he had been training his chakra...water was everywhere...it was a part of him...a part of the very nature of his chakra. He could do this. He took a deep breath. Water was life...but it was also about control...about tides and flows...streams and slips. It was about change, it was about consistency, it was about unyielding force...and it was about adaptability. Water was like himself....so really, was it truly so hard a thing to think that he could create a copy of himself with it? If it's nature and his own were so closely tied then was it so difficult a concept that he could manage this...?

The truth of the matter was, that he was in no way the sort of back down. even if the task was difficult, but was this really so difficult? He focused, his mind concentrating on the water before him in the tub as his chakra pulled...it pulled and it tried to shape and mold the water...conduct it and orchestrate it's motions... he knew that he could do it...he just needed to...

The water, even as Byakuran sent his chakra forth, was beginning to ripple. Slowly at first, like the calm before a quake, and then slowly but surely rising in intensity. The ripples across the surface of the water became more and more intense, the body of the water itself beginning to rise slightly. Not as a whole, the from the middle, like force was pulling the water up, slowly but surely. This pull was indeed growing stronger, and Byakuran continued to work with the shape, work his will upon the water via his chakra, the swell became more and more prominent. after a time one could clearly see that the swell was unnatural, the water pulled upwards into a sphere like oval before him, it's smooth featureless surface staying suspending in the air before him as the chakra within it tried to shape it...tried to bend it and move it as it willed. A bump that might have been an arm appeared, a stub that was the beginnings of a leg. A faint impression that seemed to be the vague outline of an emerging face....

The it collapsed. with sloshing splash the water fell back with the rest into the tub, a bit of it splashing about and getting on the roof. Byakuran took a deep breath. This was nothing to get angry with. That had been good. He had been making some progress. Certainly in the least he was not proving talentless at this endeavor. No jutsu was mastered without some sacrifice. Even for the most skilled ninja. There was always a price to be paid... and this case it was effort. In many cases, that was so. all things considered this one would come cheap. All he had to do was work at it. He closed his eyes once more and took in his breath, the chakra from within him once more reaching out and taking hold of the water as it had before, lifting it much more easily this time. The trick, he was learning, was in how one chose to grab the water their chakra. Filling it from within as one might use to make a very basic bushin. It was, in a theory, the same as when he had mad the construct within the water he created when using the syrup technique. Just as the chakra filled that and built it from within, changing it;s structure and properties...it was the same, on a different scale, with this water. He was building skeleton from within, a form, a base, with which he could control and accurately manipulate the water as he liked, channeling his chakra into a basic puppet like thing which he could control on a base level purely through manipulating his chakra. This was, he suspecting, the base of a clone. Though thinking of that, he wondered how on earth the Shadow clone worked. Here he had something to work with, something to enhance and built his construct within...did that mean that the shadow clone was building a construct where there was nothing? Merely out of thin air? The process would be much more difficult, and more so he couldn't imagine how it would end up being more powerful. Yet it was... he complimented the founders of the Hidden leaf for their brilliance. He himself would, in the mean time, however, have to focus more on this clone. The oto-bushin would also be open to him, given his clan's access, but that would be too difficult for him right now... that and, after all, his clan wouldn't likely send him such a powerful secret jutsu without some proof he was useful to them...

Suiton: Mizu Bunshin no Jutsu (Water Release: Water Doppelganger Technique)
The technique creates clones out of water. Like other solid clone techniques, the clones can be used to perform tasks the user is unable or unwilling to do for themselves. The range of the clone is limited however, as it can not travel very far from the original body without losing control. Additionally, water clones only have a fraction of the original person's power. Like other clone techniques, if the water clones are injured enough they will revert back to normal water.

Again…he just had to move the water….he just had to bend it…to mold it. The air across the balcony seemed so distant now as Byakuran stood, his mind now entirely focus on the tub of water. There was stillness to the floating mass of water, a controlled silence and Byakuran merely stood, his hands formed in a hand sign, Water…water was the source of all life, it was the very basis for every life. Without it, humans couldn’t persist upon the face of the earth. This was the source of his power, this was the manifestation of his chakra. He was already sixty percent water…so this indeed shouldn’t be that difficult. The key here was forming the limbs, forming the the internal structure of the water, and making the chakra construct within strong enough to move about and move on it’s own. It was about folding the layers of chakra into the water, molding them into a singular form, netting them together, forming them into the final product. Creating something from within the water that he found himself so inclined towards. He was able to feel out the interior of the water now, filling it with his chakra, extending his awareness into the water itself in order to build the structure within. It was just a matter of find the exact pattern…the exact pattern that would work.

It wouldn’t actually be all that difficult, given his ability with the standard Bushin, to create an outer layer that was convincing, but the key to a good water clone was the chakra construct that was forming it. It had to be able to move flexibly, it had to be able to react, to convince his opponents, to fool them into thinking that this was him. And more so, to be able to fight alongside him in battle. He soon planned to be getting a new weapon to replace his bow, and it would perhaps even be a melee weapon if he could find the proper one. Which meant that these clones would be invaluable, they would be needed to replicate him and aide him as he engaged his enemy. They would be vital too once he learned water jutsu, water jutsu that they could perform alongside him in a rather harrowing gambit. This would be a key element of his battle strategy eventually…and in addition, of course, it was one of the main elements of water jutsu in and of itself. If he wanted to learn more powerful jutsu, he had to push himself to limit learning one’s such as this. He needed to be able to these to their limits and build upon each in turn, until he was ready to face the next. Once he managed to master one of the water bullet techniques, then he would be all set in spades. There was also the matter of his own clan techniques, which could be distinctively powerful when taken to the edge of their potential, but he had to work on those in secret. Showing his Kekke Genkai meant showing that he was an Otobe, and that could very well prove a death sentence. So it was a matter of controlling his ambition for power by focusing more on the water techniques, and saving his clan jutsu and the like until he was more…prepared. The shock wave he could probably master easily enough, and he might even be able to fully master the minor vibration with his new talents, but the rest would have to wait until he was ready… the Black screech, the technique that his brother was infamous for using, that one would have to wait. He slowly opened his eyes, concentrating on the water before him. It was working, he shaped it and sewing the stable structure composed of his chakra into the water, his chakra and the water easily blending to one another into a singular form. It was easy for him to see now why those without a water affinity would find this technique near impossible. They simply lacked the ability to properly meld their chakra with the water… the fusion between the structure and the water would never be exactly right.

They might at best be able to create a transient image, but the bond would never be strong enough to create a working stable clone. While as his…his was actually getting along nicely. It was indeed working. The arms were finished, Byakuran’s face half formed over the water like mass that had now properly, from an outward appearance, taken on the vague shape of his body. All that was left was the surface for most of it..as well, naturally, the internal structure. This would be the hardest part. Determining the structures ins and outs, it’s nuances. The scroll only told so much, and it was daunting task even with the most specific of guidance.

Still Byakuran pressed on, the clone slowly but surely making coming into proper as it took shape before him. The water was easy to control now, more…flexible, to his will, as he continued to add layers and specific traits to the construct of his chakra within. The arms, the legs, the neck. Every facet of himself had to become as the clone, every facet of the water had become like himself. There could be no difference, no flaw, or an experienced opponent would spot it immediately. What was more he needed to be able to perform the technique flawlessly in battle. He needed to be able to do it without any flaws whatsoever.

The water clone that was complete on the surface, at least was continuing to twist and change as he shaped its interior structure, trying to make it perfectly, trying to make it perfectly capable of all that the water clone would gave to do. That was the first step of the jutsu. Creating the basic form of the clone itself. The chakra construct as he formed it seemed to hold the water, seemed, to his chakra senses, to be sewn into the water itself, bonded there by a power stronger than fate. It was a matter of nature, it was a matter of mastery of the proper form…it was a matter of being able to memorize the construct perfectly…it was an act of memorization to the point of perfection, to the point where it became more instinct and reaction than mere conscious thought. To be able to make a clone in a second…using the water in the air, or simply making it from his chakra. That was the real ultimate goal here. It wasn’t simply a matter of using his chakra to make the clone once. It was truly understanding the process and what to do, to know ti so intimately that
he could replicate it as many times as his chakra and control would allow for.

So he watched, and sensed, and he let his chakra an the many intricate webs and beams and strands webbing their way throughout the clone sink into his memory, his own efforts to perfect the structure continuing as well.

Yes…slowly he could feel the perfect picture of it burning into his mind…bit by bit he could see the slow evolution of his understanding growing within the eye of a consciousness. The clone looked, for all intents and purposes, like a lifeless version of himself now, it’s eyes hollow and it’s puppet like limbs staying limp at it’s side. But he could move it directly with his chakra, manipulating it about like the doll before him, testing the structure of the construct within, testing the durability and mobility of the clone. The Water clone seemed to have quite the solid structure, to his surprise, now that he had finished the inner construct for the moment. It was capable of resisting a fair amount of pressure before it lost consistency, and the speed at which he could move it about far surpassed his own personal speed. The water felt light and weightless, like a shifting form that was at one with his chakra. The doll moved at his whim, flipped as he desired, and bent as he demanded…but this was all just a parlor trick…bending the chakra directly…

The true point of the clone technique was that he could give the clone a piece of himself to work it autonomously…inject a sliver of his will into the chakra, bringing the clone to life, so to speak. Rather, extending his consciousness into it for a brief period of time. This allowed the clone to be controlled without his direct input…allow the clone to thrive and move about with him, rather than merely be a doll he could move about with chakra control. It was infinitely more useful, and most importantly, it was the next step in this jutsu and the process of mastering it. Holding his clone in the air before him, the structure and surface now complete and ready for animation, Byakuran moved on to the next phase of the technique… the boy’s eyes closed yet again as he reached down into the very core of his chakra…the core that had fought so hard to assimilate the chakra in the cave the day before… and tried, somehow, to isolate the part of his chakra that made him…him…

Byakuran had to admit, this was much harder than he’d thought it would be. What made him him? He supposed understood the basic meaning, but understanding that concept and actually finding it within his chakra…that was whole other matter. It was like trying to pull the wetness from the water to him. It just didn’t make any sense. His chakra WAS him. How could it be anything else? The idea that it could somehow not be him was lauaghable. Chakra was the shadow of the soul. The chakra within his coils seemed…alive, most of the time. It seemed as though everything that it was composed of was life itself, the shadow of his own existence, the product of his own being. Like a flowing river it continued to flow always, running like a constantly shifting stream towards the beginning of the cycle once more. So the process of turning it into a clone didn’t really seem all that strange, all that bizarre to him…but how to isolate that part of himself that made it possible? How did he bestow himself upon the lifeless clone?

And really, when he got to it, what made him him in the first place? Who was HE, as such. Most people spent their whole lives trying to answer that question. He was young enough as it was, and the fact that he was also the victim of a great deal of self-introspection and confusion hardly helped matters. How was he to answer that question in a literal sense when he couldn’t even grasp who he was in a philosophical sense? How did he define something in reality that metaphysically had escaped him countless times? Was it really just supposed to be that easy? He was trying to become a true ninja, a powerful warrior capable of surpassing even…that man, and more so than that he especially wanted to be free of the influence of his clan. Even if that wasn’t very likely anymore. What with the conquering of Oto. Still, if he managed to achieve the power necessary of one worthy of being called “Knight of Forte” …if he was able to defeat his brother… then he would be satisfied.

The time and effort taken to achieve such a state, to be worthy of the rank of "Knight" amongst the otobe, was something that most, even in a clan that stressed and strove for power and excellence above everything, putting great pressure on those within it to do so, never achieved in their life time. To be worthy of such a rank, to achieve what it meant to be Jounin, was something that, to Byakuran, was on an entirely different plane to his current existence. Right now he was striving to be worthy of the rank of a true ninja, a real warrior. Being an elite warrior? That was far beyond him along his path. It hadn't even entered the horizon yet. Even still it WAS on his path. He was determined to get there and, indeed, surpass even THAT lofty perch. He was going to, after all, be worthy of the title beyond it. He was, even if he didn't really have any inclination to have the title in the official context, going to be worthy of the Name "Knight of Forte."

That was years in his future no doubt, a far off goal for him to reach for, but he did intend to reach it eventually, he did intend to get there in time. After all, his senpai had done it. Kyojin Kotei was a genius, yes, but many forgot that once upon a time he too had merely been a young student with his now oft concealed eyes filled with hopes and dreams of the future. And now? Now was the he was the last laugh. Close to, if not worthy of, the rank of Jounin, and one of the more feared missing Nin in the business...merely because of his unpredictable nature and, to be completely honest, because Byakuran suspected he spent much of his time figuring out how to come off as naturally frightening as humanly possible. His personality was so unsettling, his general air so very...off, that even men twice times his size found him terrifying. Byakuran was determined to reach that level...determined to surpass it...

He had a somewhat complicated relationship with his brother. He the second son who was in the shadow of his brother, and yet at the same time he would not be the boy for all the world. He was in the boy’s shadow only in the eyes if the Otobe… in his own mind, Byakuran was as far away from his brother and his shadow as one could be. He was the second son of the Otobe’s seventh house, and as such expendable when his parents already had one as highly regarded as a Knight of forte. He was just a stain on the family name who had not taken to the Clan’s teachings… but deep down, because of the latter, he didn’t really care about that. His brother, in his eyes, was the purest definition of a tool. A timid weakling who in a flash became a monster for the purposes of others. He was completely without will of his own, always latching on to others intents and desires. The supposed “Black Sonata” was nothing more than a dog that attacked at others command, or when he felt threatened. Byakuran was so far removed from being that… from suffering that fate, that it wasn’t even worth comparing him to his brother. He was more than that…he was greater.

Even if he had yet to attain the strength his brother possessed, he was well on his way. He would continue to grow in power and in ability until he was beyond him… until he was able to truly surpass his brother in every definition of the term. It was petty, perhaps, but he was doing it as much to prove it to his brother than anything. Deep down, he didn’t…hate, his brother as such.

There had been a time when he’d pitied his brother, and wanted him to open his eyes and wake up, to free himself of his insipid personality… but that seemed unlikely given that by reputation the boy hadn’t changed at all. His brother was still the same… and that was why Byakuran had to show him that his way wasn’t the way, that his power would not always be enough to protect him if he always made himself nothing more than a pawn for others…
But then what was it that made him so strong? That was always the one thing that Byakuran never understood. His brother always fought for others, never for himself, always serving as a mere extension of another’s will. How is it that he could have become so powerful living his life that way… how is it that he could have gotten so strong when that was all that gave him his drive to carry on? Hn…was that what they called selflessness? He supposed that in a way that was it’s own admirable trait… but not in his book… at least not the way his brother demonstrated it….

But then did those things define him? Was he the sum of all these truths? He didn’t really think so…no, he was more than merely that. He was more than merely the sum of these facts. There was a deeper nature to him that defined him much more clearly than merely these facts…these aspirations and designs. He wanted to know. He wanted to learn. He was curious and he was whimsical, and he enjoyed playing with the reactions of others. He enjoyed musing to himself about the truths of the universe, and he enjoyed serving his own purposes and ends. He enjoyed music, and he enjoyed being cheerful. He enjoyed just listening to world around him, standing there atop that rooftop and allowing the truth of the sounds all around him flowing up through his enhanced senses, his second self detecting all the vibrations coming in as he interpreted them all…

This was a bit closer to him. This was bit closer to the truth of what and who he was. What it was that defined him. It was as close to the truth of what he was that he could think to come. It was as much of himself as he could solidly define. Perhaps a combination of these things, a fusion of the facts and dreams and aspirations of his life. Was that himself? Was that what it meant to be Byakuran? Was that what he had to give to this clone? Was that the secret that he had to bring out of his chakra in order to make this doll animate? He closed his eyes as he continued focus, trying, in some small way, to bring out this “self” from his chakra…to allow him to inject it into the clone…to imprint it unto the clone… to bring it to artificial life. There was still hthe single overpowering question of how. How did one pull something from itself? How did he separate himself from his chakra when to him the difference was too close to see. When to him the lines between himself and his chakra had long ago dissolved, particularly after the incident in the cave. He needed to think….

The truth was that the Otobe didn’t like to believe they had limits. They always assumed that they were unstoppable, invincible, that they were completely and utterly beyond anything that the world had to throw at them.

He supposed that in a way that was admirable, it was something, at least, that they had such boundless confidence in themselves…but there was a price to pay for such a thing. That blind faith they had in themselves was a slow bleeding wound that weakened them through every conflict. Never knowing one’s limits, one’s faults, meant that one didn’t get the opportunity to mend them. To facilitate them. It was once said by a wise man that to know one’s self and one’s enemy meant you need not fear the outcome of one hundred battles.. but that if you knew only your enemy, and didn’t know yourself, or the reverse, that every victory would be a picric one. He understood the thinking behind that, understood what it meant to win and yet lose. Victory was such a difficult thing to define, like good or evil, it was a cloud that one could never truly wrap your hand around.

When he really got down to it…was the power of humanity limited at all…? There were legends of unreal proportions that depicted Ninja who could call forth the gods themselves as their slaves, ninja who could lay waste to whole villages with a single hand gesture…

If such power truly did exist…if it was truly possible that all such potential rested within the human core, then what did it mean for him? He continued to push himself to what seemed to be his own limits, and yet every time he surpassed them, continued to grow. Would there even come a time when he proved unable to continue to pass those limits? If he truly someday found a way to become immortal, to take on the life force of a spirit, then would he just continue to grow and grow and grow until he too could lay waste to nations in a single night? Until he became one of those figures of legend as well? He wondered just how he would feel about that. He was not born to rule his fellow man, he understood this about himself. He was free spirit, a wild card, a rogue agent, by mere fact of design or origin. His chakra, the nature of his element, all these things painted a clear picture, not even taking into consideration his own motives and behavior, which backed up the story even more so. The entire purpose of his existence was to be free of a true presence domineering over his actions. He desired to be himself in all things, and learn all that he could of the world to sate his ever growing curiosity about it all. His chakra was nothing more than the result of that, wasn’t it?

The fusion of this desire and it’s reflection upon the world around him. He continued to struggle his way up the cliff as these thoughts circled their way around his subconscious, the climb up engulfing him as he forced his chakra to serve him, to continue to support him. No, that didn’t sound right. His chakra too seemed almost a free spirit to itself.

Was this then a part of who he was? His idenitity as human? Was…
But something seemed to spring up in Byakuran’s eyes, a realization that visibly brought shock to his face. That was it…that was it. He didn’t need to try and define himself…he didn’t need to separate anything from anything. He WAS his chakra, the self that he needed as already made, already containing the properties that he needed to give the clone life…he just needed to let it flow, let it bring out those qualities within itself. He began work immediately once more on the clones internal workings, not changing the construct so much as…bringing the life out of it. Bringing the qualities from the chakra that allowed it be himself. He was his chakra, and his chakra was he, so a being made of chakra was nothing more than an extension of himself. He could do this…

The clone’s iner workings began to feel…strangely warm as the chakra seemed to be flowing actively along the boundaries of the construct itself, the water it was bonded to suddenly seeming to…come alive. The Byakuran composed of water’s eyes seemed to be more…aware, now, it’s limbs twitching on occasion. It’s face seemed to be going through a brief period of emotions, a long string oc hanging expressions and shifting twisted before, suddenly, as the chakra seemed to be working it’s course, the Clone seemed to become…alert. Byakuran’s water clone seemed to open it’s eyes in earnest, and even from looking Byakuran could tell that a isolated extension of himself had just been brought to awareness within the construct. It was he himself, thinking all the thoughts that he would think if placed inside his own clone body temporarily, and would return as soon as the clone body was destroyed. His clone attempted to move it’s limbs and still seemed to be having a bit of trouble, the process of animation slow as he was working it out this first time. Animating and reanimating the parts of the clone so that from this point onward he could do it instantly upon the clone’s formation. After some time it seemed to gain some control over it’s arms, and began, just as a matter of practice, forming the various hand signs quickly and efficiently as he himself continued to practice the animation aspect of the jutsu. Now that he knew whaqt to do, now that he had mastered the basic concept of it, he was finding it rather effortless. Of course it was… chakra composed the things entire being, and chakra WAS himself. He had been overthinking the entire matter.

The clone seemed to be growing increasingly mobile as he had more or less found himself able to fully animate and deanimate it four or so times already, the last animation taking no more then a minimal efforts within the span of a few seconds. That was the sort’ve time he’d been looking for. The Clone needed no prompting before it began to test itself out, moving and shifting it’s body weight to ensure that the body was indeed stable, and that he had full control over it. It was a rather odd sight really, truth be told. A normal person stumbling up to the roof top that day might have assumed that a pair of twins, one of whom was performing a hand sign while the other seemed to be performing minor aerobics, were enjoying the air together this morning. It was a little surreal just how close the water could be to him, just how much sharing his chakra could imprint his identity unto something. Even if it was filled with a chakra construct after all…it was still just water. And yet it was him. It was walking around and moving and speaking, because he had tested that out as well, just though it was actually himself. For some time he and the clone seemed to marvel over the fact that they’d…that he’d, rather, been successful even as far as this. When he had first begun attempting it, he hadn’t really thought ahead to the true wonder of it.

Slowly but surely he began working on cutting off his ties to the clone, taking off the training wheels, so to speak, if only for the moment, testing autonomy. He would need to alter it slightly to perfect it for the final stage of the jutsu, however for now at least he needed to test to see if could truly act and move all on it’s own, thinking and operating as though it was another him for all intents and purposes. It would also be important to make sure there was no error in the personality or his integration of his chakra into the water. He’d been working to remove all impurtities and imperfections in his process and the basic structure, but this would be the real test to see if what he’d been doing so far had had the impact desired. He let go of the clone, so to speak, releasing his direct control of the chakra within it, and allowing it to act upon it’s own…as hoped, there didn’t seem to be any change. The Water clone, incomplete though it was, could still move, talk, and act independently of him, even able to move into the enxt phase a little by preforming a cartwheel. Yes. That was the next stage. He needed to alter the Clone properly so that it would be suited to learning his fighting styles and techniques…rather, make it capable of replicating them. As himself, it knew all that he knew, but it was the matter of it’s chakra constructed body being able to perform them as he could. It was a matter of ensuring the clone was durable, and perfecting the process he had begun in the first phase. It would take a combination of his Chakra control and knowledge of Ninjutsu…but he was fairly confident he would be able to do it in record time. He was, in this regard at least, already more than half way done.

He gave a slow breath as his water clone’s arm began to destabilize slightly, his corrections springing to action immediately as he sent his chakra to fortify the area. There were so many points of articulation, and so much force put on the body while perform the ninja arts, that this last step was proving to be no easy task. He wasn’t having nearly as much trouble with it as the second phase, of course, but it was still no matter which could be easily brushed aside. He had now drained the tub of water, two water clones now standing upon the roof as he held his connection stable with them, watching and observing their inner constructs as they performed some combat exercises together. They started off light at first, a slow incline into the real work so as to test the constructs hold at certain levels of pressure and action, yet not they were battling in earnest, the inconsistences and mistakes in their design slowly being brought to the surface, only for him to fix them and continue the process all over again.

This process of trial of error was actually fairly similar to the process that he had gone through while mastering the syrup technique. This was obviously a bit more complex, of course, but it was a rather reminiscent at the least. There was a strange rhythm to the repetition and yet shifting circumstance to the actions that was familiar somehow. He supposed if he had to pin it down to anything, he would say that it was like a song. A constant beating waltz, and ever present three beat dance that he was having to conduct in order to master the technique, to make it ready for battle. There was a sort’ve comfort in the music of it, in the pattern that to him, reminded him of the one thing that he actually did suit his clan in, the love of music.

Well, the love of music and all things which touched his enhanced senses, actually. Even since he was small it was the one thing that had always, at all points, agreed with his clan’s value of it. Music when experienced from the senses of an Otobe was extra ordinary…and now that he had mastered the musical inclination it was even more incredible. He could literally express the music that had been inside his soul all this time. In a way, this music that seemed to be carrying him through training reminded him of that feeling of peace, that feeling of elation and triumph. The movements of the clones seemed to be sweeping and graceful, a quick and sudden exchange of dexterous movement. They were fast, very fast, and their movements were…in a pun, fluid. And the refining process continued to pan out they grew even more so, their capability and durability increasing slowly but surely. He was able to see the patterns in their moves and understand now how failures in the inner construct of the clones could manifest in imperfections in their ability to move, beginning to learn how certain things affected others, and most importantly, he was mastering how exactly to enact all these things in a singular motion, a single expansion of his chakra, learning to master and control the process of making them as he might particular motion of his own arm. He was learning the art to making them as one might a trick, a sleight movement of the hands. It was a thing of control, it was thing of cunning, and it was a thing of chakra. These three things, when brought together, and he was starting to believe that he could anything. The composition the chakra construct was nearly complete, he could feel himself getting closer with each step. Each movement of the clones, and even every time an imperfection appeared.

The power that he had obtained the day before was flowing through him, and to be honest the mere act of making these clones in regards to his overall store of chakra was laughable. He could easily make, taking into account raw chakra alone, more than six of them easily. If he had had that sort’ve option against Jin…but then again, he hadn’t yet been able to rest up from his training then, not given his body to get used to the new chakra it had taken into itself, so he probably wouldn’t have been able to make full use of the technique as he was now…if he had had a chance though. It was trange to imagine though, that indeed, he hadn’t yet gotten the full power of the chakra that he had worked so hard to obtain. He wasn’t yet receiving the full power of it. He could feel it somehow, deep within him, the sleeping power that he had taken into himself waiting for the moment when he could properly call upon it…when the hidden potential within him after his time in the cave would awaken. It would a be a moment indeed for him to remember. His chakra stores would be radically different, and…and if he was truly honest with himself, obtaining nthat power had taught him more then merely the taming of the power itself. It was a matter of him being able to control himself…to beating back impossible odds and facing his true self…and indeed what he saw there. The cave had been the moment that he had truly had to face himself as a ninja…even if his battle with Jin just afterwards was technically his first true moment as a ninja, as a warrior. True, he hadn’t managed to defeat his opponent alone, but that wasn’t really the point. It had been a point where he had had to face a life or death struggle, and been caught without suitable weapon in hand. It was a drive, a motivation, to not be so again. He would grow strong…and master techniques which would allow him to avoid such a situation in the future.

This was one such technique. It was the basis for others which would prove exceedingly useful. It would allow him to outnumber his opponent, and when he was stronger and had mastered more than one jutsu, hitting his target from all directions. It was a potent strategy, and it worked well against even the strongest opponents. Once he mastered a proper attack water jutsu…it would be all he needed to defeat people like Jin with minimal effort. With his vast stores of chakra, he would be able to support said jutsu as well… and who knew, with the level of chakra that he had managed to pull out of himself, what other things that he might be able to master.

Another key thing that he began to notice about the water clones was that they were indeed quite a bit more adaptable in th aspect of evasion. While they were slower and not nearly as strong as himself in other areas, their consistency and many aspects of their original base form as water allowed the great degree of maneuverability. Which was more then a welcome addition to their list of uses. They would not only make good tools as distractions and additional means of attack, they would also serve as even greater diversionary tactics due to their ability, once they had an enemy’s attention, to avoid their attacks. There was really beginning to be a vast increase in his fighting capability, merely from learning this single technique.

It was amazing how much a single jutsu could change the course of a battle, and how using it correctly could have an greater impact. This jutsu in particular had the power to multiply his fighting power many times over. His clones seemed to stop for a moment as a slight wind passed over the rooftop, stillness falling over the trio of Byakuran’s as they all waving their gaze over the others…before the two clones once more charged one another, slamming into one another going full speed, and shattering one another into water. Byakuran gave a slight smile and reformed them, his testing of the clones limits moving along well, as well. It seemed that he would indeed prove capable of mastering this with just a little bit more effort. It was only a matter a further initiative on his part. The perfection of the Clone’s was indeed a process of trial and error, and he was nearing it's end...

Byakuran's eyes seemed to give the signal as the two clones dashed at one another once again. The process of trial and error was certainly baring fruit. While he had certainly had a few setbacks with this jutsu, it was all coming around in the end. The only really problem seemed to be that they were still a little sluggish around the left leg, but he couldn't really fully pin down the cause. There were plenty of intricate processes in the chakra construct that composed the clone, and it was very possible that he had made an minor error somewhere in the vast network was causing the small mishap...but there was no real way to go about fixing it besides watching, trying to trace back the defect to it's source and stamp it out as he had all the rest. It had taken him even a little while to notice the hint of imperfection was there, the jutsu very near to being completed, but watching them fight he was certain now, the brief period of slowed movement at the apex of a kick...it WAS there.

There only choice though was to wait it out as he continuously searched for the cause. The clones themselves, having his own mind to work from, were indeed able to perfectly mimic his fighting style, not that he had much of one at the moment. He did need to work on his close range combat skills and taijutsu...after all if he left himself open to attack nothing good would come from it, even if he did have the powerful Ninjutsu to back him up. The best method of course, would be obtain a defensive weapon of some kind. Many in his clan preferred to use swords or their much aloof hand cuffs as their primary weapon, but he needed something far more defensive...and something didn't directly remind him of his family. He supposed when he was done here he could swing by the weapon shop and look around, see what the man there recommended given his criteria.

He still just couldn't get a handle on it. It was starting to bug him, like a constant nag of when he had left the oven on. It was like a single sour note in the song that his mastery of this jutsu and no matter how loud the rest sang the single sour pitch rang out and lessened the magnificence of the rest of the performance. He focused this time, he HAD to find this mistake...this error somewhere...he had to finish this jutsu with distinction. He knew that he had it in himself to do it, it was just a matter of finding the balance, the right construct for the chakra, the right way to bond it to the water, and finally the right way to assimilate his personality into the clone, all these elements working together as one. He knew that he was close now, so close he could taste it, but he was just a step away yet, a step away from noting what it was about the construct that was still causing him that nagging irritation...
