Raven_Darkholme Wally_West twisted They don't wear much of ANYTHING in pro wrestling.... Surely you don't mean to imply that professional wrestling is a sport...?Surely you don't mean to imply that people who train their entire lives in aerobic, acrobatic, and high-impact physical conditioning aren't athletes?

Let me know when ballet is considered a sport. They train their whole lives too. Professional wrestling is high impact performance art.

Most people have no idea how much abuse their bodies are put through. They think it's all cardboard and styrofoam and that the ring is a trampoline. Trust me, those are real tables they're crashing through, those ringside steps are real steel and the ring posts are solid steel as well. The ring ropes are high tension steel wire covered in rubber and can hurt you easily. Oh yeah, the blood is also real. stare They do this on average 300 nights a year. I think they deserve a little respect for that.

In all seriousness, yes. Ballerinas are athletes. They condition their bodies and their cardiovascular systems far beyond those of average people. I have seen professional wrestlers perform acts of athletiscm, strength, and daring that far outclass what many people in other 'legitimate' sports do. I have seen men jump sixteen feet to the ground, with only a table to break their fall. I have seen them perform a match, which means constant, impact-filled motion of the body, for well over sixty minutes. Jesse Ventura once stated that an hour-long "Iron man" match costs him ten pounds in water body weight.
I have seen a man bleed so badly he had to go to the hospital afterward for a transfusion.
I have seen a man break his leg.
I have seen a man die.
Say what you want about 'juice monkeys' and snicker and snark about a form of entertainment that has been a part of the visual medium for as long as television has existed, but do NOT doubt that these men are athletes who give their all for their art.
Wretstling is a year-round activity. There is no training period and offtime like the olympics. There is no off-season like other sports. These are people who literally dedicate their lives to their chosen form of entertainment. So I'll thank you to show the iota of respect you show other people in their chosen forums of entertainment profession to those men.

It's bloody ridiculous. I've also seen all the behind the scenes stuff on wrestling including the Bret Hart documentary, I'm well aware of what they go through. I also used to watch wrestling, but I don't any more. For one thing there are far too many preventable deaths associated with professional wrestling from steroid complications like the British Bulldog or questionable safety procedures like Owen Hart. Sure they throw themselves around rather carelessly but so does Johnny Knoxville and I really don't feel the need to respect him for jumping off the roof of a house or setting himself on fire. I just don't like wrestling.

You don't have to like it. Just respect the men who've chosen it as their lifes work, same as you'd respect anyone else dedicated to their craft.
