Miangel Oh man... you know those flute players I always complain about? The ones in the second row who don't seem to give a crap. Well, Tuesday one of them actually - get ready for this - ASKED FOR HELP. Dun dun dun! And it wasn't just, "Oh, how does this go?" in the middle of class. She actually wanted me to stay after school and help her. Since I had to stay after for a sax sectional anyway, I did, and she's actually really nice. She always seemed kinda snobby before. I am starting to have hope for my flute section. XD Aww! Flutes are bonding! ^_^ cute! There are two girls infront of Ryan (they would be infront of me..) who like never play. But they're seniors so next year they'll be gone and i'll be second/first chair. ^_^ Instead of double posting I'll post my news here. I got my band sweatshirt today and it has a piccolo on it ^_^ i'm thinking of getting a flute next year and sporting that during marching season and during concert season sporting the piccolo sweatshirt...or vice versa!

We played at Wind Fest today, and it was . . . interesting. Two of the three songs we were gonna play wound up played by other bands during the day. Of coarse, we ended up dropping one song, and I got rushed out to my drama performance after we finished (we went first.)
It was really sad though. I couldn't get an F out at all, and I was the only one playing that part. Then Mr. May decided to eat lunch with us when I got back. Today was really fun though.

If you're not getting an F out, check the screws on your rods... I had it happen once where the rod was about to fall out, and I had no idea.
I was boosted up to the 8va part for our Region piece today, one of two people [im in the sophmore band, and the other's in the upperclassmen band. Appearently we're the only ones that can handle the range and tuning involved.]... The second half of the song's all like that. 8va. Basically a range of Bb2 to C4. But, I've been having a bout with bronchitis lately.... and I couldn't get that stupid C. Gah. Wanted to beat it down to a proper playing level. It was like playing pic, but on flute. I wish I had an alto flute or something... an excuse to play the low range.

Hookani Keiki Is it flutist or foutist? This was discussed before. Floutist is more professional and flutist is more amateur

I have to take in my flute to the shop this weekend. >> The 3rd octave E natural isn't working, and the 3rd octave F# will only work part of the time. I can't explain exactly what's wrong, but basically keys that SHOULDN'T be holding each other down ARE. I've tried oiling it and checking screws and wires and everything, and nothing works. So... yeah. Off to the shop with my poor baby. And we can't get it out until Thursday... which means I'm stuck sightreading on sax next week (we're getting our Hawaii music now that our quad concert's over). Oh joy. Well, at least I like sitting with the saxes. Other tenor player = hawt. 3nodding

My friend (infatuation) Ryan sits ahead of me he's hot.

missy_the_hamster Hollyshort I love playing flute!! In the band I am in right now there are 7 flutes lol not very many but we are really great friends holly In my band we only have 4!! I believe my school has 10 flutes, for concert band, that is. Five in the upperclassmen class, and Five in the sophomore class. Pit this year ended up having four.... Pep band, (w/out colorguard players) has seven, I think. I'm out 'cause I'm playing Alto, and two are in colorguard... but I believe there's ten when the colorguard flautists play... One's on bassoon for concert stuff. Marching Band's the same as pep... seven. For the same reasons. But besides the ten that play... I think there's at least 14 people in band that can play flute. (As in; actually know fingerings and things.)

Theres' approx. 15-20 flutes in Concert band. Despite the fact one flute from marching band plays oboe in concert

missy_the_hamster Hollyshort I love playing flute!! In the band I am in right now there are 7 flutes lol not very many but we are really great friends holly In my band we only have 4!! We've got eight in wind ensemble (down from ten at the beginning of the year - yes!) and... eleven (I think) in concert band. They've been multiplying since I was a freshman. Freshman year we had around eleven TOTAL. Last year we had about fourteen or fifteen. This year we had nineteen. I'm scared for next year... especially since next year I'm going to have to deal with BOTH bands....
