I love the French Horn! I was in marching band in the 9th grade and absolutely loved it! I moved after ninth grade year and am now the only horn in a very very small band. We are so small we have no mellophone, so I have to stand and play with my horn. gonk haha...but that's cool, because I LOVE it!!! heart heart

I only use the trigger if I absolutely have to. Otherwise I don't touch the thing for the life of me.

Heh I play my trumpet with my horn mouthpeice even without a converter xD What's really funny it a saxophone mouthpeice over a mellophone or trumpet. So weird!
Wouldn't it be difficult to march a real horn O_o At least you wouldn't have to hold it up so high xD

It doens't fit. it would be harder to march with your concert band horn because it's heavier, your marching horn, I'm assuming is the one where you have to hold it like a trumpet? Mine's different, I held it closer to my chest..

That depends on the mouthpeice. Mine has no cup, but some do...
Also, today we got new music, and it randomly switches to bass cleff during an optional section for horns. xD I never thought I'd see that.

It was confusing as hell. xp Also, I hope this isnt off topic, but I seem to have trouble with one of my french horn keys. When I try to play a scale (F), I can hit the first note just fine (Open), but the second note (1 and 3), sounds just like the first. Since I bought it online, I have a 2 year warranty, and I can send it back in to get it repaired. There is one thing, though: I have to pay for shipping. If I can fix it myself, then I will.

XD I thought there was only one of me! xd Its trumpet notes but on the french horn music. I learned all of my notes wrong, like, I thought that the first note was an F. >.< Turns out its a C. I have to re-learn where all of the notes are. Do you know what I'm talking about? lol! @your question, how long have you been playing the horn? I started this year and the other french horn person can't get the first note... And the Baritone, you can't tell her notes apart. Something about obature? I can't spell it. Think of what the note sounds like in your head. Then try it. Sorry if I'm being completely unusful but I'm really kinda jumpy right now and am very chattery.

I actualy do have a trigger, but I never use it and I play by trumpet fingerings. I think I might have to learn actual french horn fingerings... *shudders at the thought of learning fingerings all over again* There seems to be an odd clicking noise coming from my third valve. As for how long I have been playing, I have been playing for about...*thinks*...3 years.

I suppose you could look up some fingering charts and keep testing your different fingerings. If all your other notes are fine, it's probably not the valve...

If it is in F it's not that difficult to learn the fingerings. there is just a slight change to a few of the notes otherwise it's all the same.
