Byakko made his way back to the sign now that his task was done. He grinned when he was rewarded with a level and a new card even though he hadn't found anything too interesting. "Thanks." He said to the sign then wondered off to find something else to do. Maybe next time he wouldn't have to get hit by a tree.

There were so many trees and Kludge was unsure where he should even start. Were there any particular trees he was supposed to examine, or were they all free game? It was hard to tell, but he supposed that the game would tell him if he picked the right tree or not.

Right?

He eventually spun around, picking a tree at random to approach. It was a long slender tree, and considering some of it's neighbors, was rather normal.

"Hello," it said, before asking a question. It seemed to want to know how tall it was compared to it's friends, but really, he couldn't know. Not with the little information that had been given in the puzzle.

He shrugged. "No idea."

The tree gloated, and Kludge could only shake his head. Of course the tree was a better tree than him, as he wasn't a tree. He knew that. Silly thing.

2: The second tree is a wide tree and doesn't look too happy to see you. It crosses its arms. "I don't think so, the last people who were here were terribly mean about it. Terribly, terribly mean and it just won't do anymore. If you come any closer I will have to resort to violence I mean it! Don't come any closer!"

If you move closer it hits you for -5 damage with its branches.

What had happened to this tree to make it so angry? She wanted to ask, but the frown it was giving her and the eye she was getting made Golden decide to step back and reconsider her actions.

It was not worth it.

"Forgive me, good friend." She offered, bowing to it a little, before going to find another way.

He stared at the blinking cursor in the gold-bordered box for some time. This was always the hardest part of starting a game; you had to pick something that reflected your personality in some way, was reasonably clever, and wasn't dumb. Sure, you could take the easy way out and make up some kind of vaguely fantasy-sounding nonsense name, but he preferred to use actual words.

Was this a new game or an established one? It was a dream, so it might be either. Actually, since this was a dream, any name he picked should be fine. It shouldn't be like real life, in which even if you thought up something great you had to worry about whether someone else had been that clever before you.

InvisibleDog, he typed. Typed? Was he typing? His hands weren't doing anything, but it somehow felt like typing, and the letters had appeared on the display the way he'd expected them to. It was a dream, he reminded himself, and he didn't need to question it too much, because clearly it was working.

The tutorial NPC was cute. Alice-themed. This was an Alice in Wonderland themed game, obviously, so it made some kind of sense for the walkthrough to be guided by Alice. He chose the Dormouse class, support type; he could do that, as long as he could party up with some other players. He watched the avatar construct itself, chose its colors and a few accessories, and then felt himself step forward and into the marionette figure. It animated, merged with him, and --

-- and he stood in the middle of a shifting, living, breathing woods. Kind of a creepy place, actually. Creepy, but beautiful, vibrant and brilliant, music drifting through the trees. It was pretty realistic. He felt like he was actually here. When he patted a tree branch, he could feel resistance and texture under his hand; the ground under his boots had the slightly springy feel of grassy earth. "Cool," he said.

Strange, Laz commented. This dream is strange.

You're here too? He didn't know why he was surprised. Of course Laz was here. Laz was always with him, after all. The weapon whuffed in annoyance and didn't dignify that with a response.

InvisibleDog rolled his eyes in tolerant irritation and ignored his weapon in favor of checking his cards. Plenty of healing, obviously, acceptable luck, acceptable defense, shitty attack, but attack wasn't his job anyway. It'd be a good idea to find a better attack card, but his first priority should be to find someone, or preferably someones, plural, to join up with. He closed his deck and turned around to look for a path.

There was a very obviously placed signpost a short distance away. Hovering over it, just in case it wasn't clear that this was where you were supposed to go, was a gold exclamation point.

"Okay, I hear you," InvisibleDog said to nobody in particular, and trotted over to listen to the signpost. Five trees. He could do that.

The walk from the last tree had gotten HotRocks temper to cool down a little but she was till mad as she walked up to this last tree and glad it was going to be the last one that she needed to find. HotRocks could see that this tree was broken and sobbing the closer she got to the tree. Snorting a little to hear what the tree had to say and she was going to really let the tree have it when she just snorted some more. "What ever I will see if I can find your glasses if that will get you to stop crying as its getting really annoying," she grumbled a little anger seeping though her words. But she still when off to find the trees glasses.

Tree - the final tree (is this roll)
Fragments: 0

Another stump, he wasn't sure how he felt about that. His large white-grey ears folded down and gave him a disturbing thought about the way Remi's ears folded sometimes…which made him frown and fold his arms.

"This is all EXTREMELY silly." He declared to the stump as though it could answer him.

Well he'd found 5 trees, so… therefor he was done.
He decided to go find other things to do.

If you don't help it out it gives you nothing and continues to sob.

If you help it out, search around the tree for glasses! Roll 1d4. If you roll a 4 you succeed in finding its glasses. It is super excited as you hand it back. "Thank you, oh my goodness, thank you indeed. Here, have this." It gives you a fragment and insists on giving you a hug, but the hug is very prickly and not very nice at all. +1 Fragment.

It seemed that there would be no escaping Natt. He was stuck with her.

What a shame.

"W-what are you doing?!" His eyes shot to his shoulder, immediately disgusted by whatever it was she had wiped on him. "Ugh, you're so gross!" NotStupid had learned his lesson about running away in a forest rich with foliage, so this time he just tried to turn his head forward and ignore her. Because, you know, when you ignore a problem it just goes away.

Which led him to... Quite a sight. A crying tree? Why in the name of Jack did a tree need glasses? "Alright, alright... I'll help you look." He scoffed, hoping this was some kind of side quest that would end up having its own reward.

Before Brenley had arrived at Amityville, he'd rarely dreamed. All of his hopes and wishes had played out in his thoughts during his waking hours, leaving no room for foolish what-if ice cream and unicorn narratives while he slept.

Since he had become a real student in a legitimate school, however, he'd been subjected to week-long unconscious journeys of the mind and a host of other, more mundane dreams, some of which he doubted he'd ever have the courage to share. As he chose his alternate name and outfit and appeared in this strange place, the reaper really hoped this wouldn't be one of them.

It wasn't long before he decided that even if this experience turned out to be mortifying and embarrassing, exploring this fascinating landscape would make it all worthwhile in the end. Colors he had never seen in Halloween dotted every tree, and all around him the forest was alive. The trees... they spoke.

"Hello!"

Big gasped, facing the post with wide eyes. Apparently the signs here spoke too. He listened to his assignment intently, taking off into the woods when the instructions were over. He wasn't all that keen on actually following them, but the prospect being given free rein to explore and examine the creatures here was enough to spur him forward.

The first tree that addressed him was very tall and very thin, almost too thin to be called more than a branch in Big's opinion. After it had posed its question, the boil didn't hesitate to respond.

"That's three friends," Big said.

"That was not my question."

"Still, you're wrong about the friends. You meant three."

"I'm not speaking to you anymore."

Quote:
6: You reach a long, slender tree and it looks quite ordinary. "Hello," says the long slender tree. "I have a small question. I have two friends, Dilly, Milly, and Nilly. Nilly is taller than Dilly, but shorter than me. Dilly is shorter than Milly but taller than me. How tall am I?"

If you answer as truthfully as you can the tree says "No, why, I do not think that's the answer at all. You are very wrong."

If you tell them you do not know the tree gloats. "Why, I didn't think you would. It proves I am the better tree." But you are not a tree at all!

Did she just do a complete circle?

Why was the tree still unhappy with her? Golden left it alone, with a huge bubble of questions that were forming in her mind. Things she wouldn't say, but kind of couldn't help thinking. Haruump.

Were there specific trees that he was supposed to examine for this? Like, marked in some way? InvisibleDog jogged around a small stand of trees, looking for any of them that might be glowing or bordered or had text or something. He couldn't see anything particularly obvious.

The stump caught his attention, simply because it was a stump among a bunch of trees. He checked it out. Just a stump. Nothing in it or on it. About the right height for sitting on, if you could do that. He sat down just to test the theory. Yep. He could sit on a stump.

He felt kind of stupid a moment later, and got up, checking to see if anyone had seen that.

The first tree was, in fact, true to its word. It refused to continue their conversation, forcing Big to either move on or stand there talking to himself. He chose moving on.

It wasn't long before he came upon a second tree. A stripey tree. He eyed it suspiciously once he had heard its demand, but eventually he relented. He shook the pine to within an inch of its tree existence, and when it was all laughed out, Big stepped back. There was a strange, glittering fragment on the ground at his feet. It remained pure white, even under the influence of the surrounding colors, and he felt an intense urge to pocket it.

So, he did.

Quote:
8: You reach a tree with stripes. Trees with stripes, how silly!

"I beg your pardon," says the tree with stripes, "but I am not silly at all. In here everything is possible and anything is impossible and therefore a tree with stripes is completely within everything and anything." Its stripes change colours. "Now, give me a good, good shake. I want to get some more colour out. Shake me really well, if you do I'll reward you."

If you shake the tree it laughs happily and then spits out a fragment. It bids you your merry way as you continue walking. +1 fragment.

She really wanted to touch this tree.

Staring at it, Golden wondered if it would be willing to let her touch it - willow trees were just so pretty. But it's stare, and the fact that every time she took a step closer warned her with little leaves whipping at her, she decided against it.

Boo!

Trees [1/5]

With a skip in her step Envy curiously wandered through the woods trying to understand what she was supposed to do next. There were many strange twisted trees in this forest, unlike any she'd seen in the waking world. One in particular caught her eye or, ...was it her eyes that it caught? She approached it, innocent eyes wide with wonder and reached out gently to sweep away some willowy branches that just might be concealing a face beneath, when;

The great willow seemed utterly displeased by the invasion of space, battering the small girl about with its branches. "How rude!" She exclaimed pulling the willow leaves from her ruffled red hair and stumbling back to the path to find something a little less HOSTILE to inspect.
